I'd been in the habit of letting wget retrieve nytimes links, but today I finally fought with it long enought to learn a few things. - wget works because it remembers cookies while redirecting. I was sure that enabling cookies required a flag, but nope. - If I increase the maximum redirect level in dillo, it gets up to 9 before nytimes relents and figures out that I don't want to give it any cookies and provides me with the page. - If I change the www to www10, it works immediately and doesn't bother with redirection at all.

I was trying the new search functionality a bit more and found this (it's also present in my Dec 2008 dillo*). With the page: <table> <tr><td>no close-tr <tr><td>has a close-tr</tr> <tr><td>here's another line</tr> </table> if I search for "rh", it finds one instance of it split between the second and third table rows. * My older dillos were lost in a tragic "I don't think I need my CVS stuff anymore" accident.

corvid, you have just fixed an issue with horizontal scrolling during search. While testing it I realized, that horizontal scrolling during search does not work at all with plain text. Any idea why? Cheers, Johannes

Hi, Here are some pending issues which I've partially sorted by priority (at least the top half). Please add the missing ones and let's try to finish sorting it, with a view to planify our work. * Make DIV-based pages render correctly. This is the most visible rendering fault in Dillo. The textblock doesn't have a way to handle it (not implemented). IIRC I'm willing to dig into it and Johannes will help. e.g. http://www.advogato.org/faq.html * Add blocker (this also has to do with privacy). A full RE-based one may have significant overhead (test required), but simple string-matching may do most of the trick. I've also thought for a long time that a "don't load from other sites" preference may help a lot. The whole topic needs some thought but it's not hard to implement. e.g. doubleclick. * Handle negative values in CSS. e.g. wikipedia. * What will we do with xhtml? To render or not to render... FF doesn't validate. BUG#732 One solution is to add a notification widget area below the control panel that hides/unhides as the find bar, to warn when a xhtml file has detected bugs (we'd also move the meta refresh warning to display here). I already have a simple patch to add xhtml rendering. The widget implemetation is the missing part. It should be much simpler than the close button in each tab. :-) e.g. http://planet.postgresql.org/ * Jump to #anchor doesn't work correctly. It looks like a timing issue, but the idle-call API needs a review as a whole. * dpi for "view page source" (it re-uses search capability). This requires a check of the current data-passing inside DPIP. * Improve the DPI development/debug framework. * https dialog bombing issue. BUG#868 AKA make https dpi a server (i.e. not a filter dpi). * Render bug at http://www.directfb.org/ (and its links). The table has too wide a first column. Hi, Here's a prototype patch that does the work. It's not yet optimized nor polished nor throughly tested, and it leaks Web structures, but it illustrates very well the idea, and finishing it shouldn't be hard. As said in CCCwork.txt it would be good to build the whole chain in one single step (for simplicity) and to define a standard way to end/abort the CCC (which I've given some thought). If muses decide to pay me a visit, I may develop a patch for this soon. :-) -- Cheers Jorge.-

Switch to fltk1.3?

Hi, is possible to switch to fltk1.3? I sent a lot of emails to fltk developers trying to get the license issue of fltk2 (http://www.fltk.org/str.php?L2198+P0+S-2+C0+I0+E0+Qlicense) fixed but I still (after months of sent emails) haven't gotten a reply. dillo is going to be removed from Debian and Ubuntu repositories because it depends on removed packages and the newest dillo release cannot be uploaded because fltk2 is not in the repositories and it cannot be accepted due to the license issue. Is possible to switch to fltk1.3 or to another toolkit please? Thanks, Devid Antonio Filoni

newbie question about main loop...

Just learning about dillo; looks neat! We are investigating how best to "embed" html links within a 3D world, in much the same way old-time 'anchor nodes' were embedded in VRML. We were just thinking to have a separate tab, or if we got fancy, play with OpenGL transforms, etc. Unfortunately, one of the libraries we use for avatars (www.edgelib.com) *must* have the main loop, with everything else called during onRedraw(), etc. Is it even conceivable to use dillo in this manner? best regards - Chris Nicholas

By the way, what I forgot to mention!! You have to change all fork() to vfork() cause there is no MMU on blackfin systems!!! Crosscompiling Dillo2 for uClinux on Blackfin

Hi guys, Currently I'm searching for a small footprint webbrowser to use on my blackin device. This device is driven by uClinux. The first positive I can tell you is, that I compiled fltk2 for blackfin with success. I followed the instructions on tw.myblog.yahoo.com/stevegigijoe/article<http://tw.myblog.yahoo.com/stevegigijoe/article?mid=138&prev=-1&next=137> to compile and run fltk2. My modifications can be read at https://blackfin.uclinux.org/gf/project/uclinux-dist/forum/?_forum_action=F… So now I'm facing a problem with the configure script of dillo. I had to make few changes to configure.in to recognize crosscompiled Fltk2 lib. These changes went ok but when configure checks libz, then it crashes because it can't find right version of the library. So my question is, how can I tell configure to search in my uClinux directory where the library already is persistent for use with uClinux. Best Regards from Germany, Michae

I made yet another version of this patch the other day, and furaisanjin was kind enough to run on it a bit and ensure it's doing what we want. With the previous version, compiling without optimization, gprof showed 3-4% loss of speed on a page that's mostly English text. - I removed the strdup/free from the common case. - For nonideographic, it goes character by character instead of checking every byte. This should help for, e.g., Russian, but means some 'unnecessary' length-checking in the mostly-ASCII case. And gprof suggested the slowdown might be 3% now, although at this point, unless someone is paying you to perform a lot of careful, drudgery-filled runs, it gets hard to pick the signal out of the noise when examining the time spent in relevant functions. I tried adding in some code to bypass the ideographic call for ASCII, but 1) it made the code a little messy 2) it looked like it might be saving a few tenths of a percent 3) the compiler might perform optimizations under certain circumstances making my efforts unnecessary or counterproductive. I could definitely be talked into this one, though. I tried adding an addText() with a length argument and thought it might help by saving me the trouble of writing NULL bytes into the strings and saving the trouble of some strlen()ning in dw. I couldn't see any difference in speed, although it did make things cleaner and I would want to add it in eventually if this all makes it into the repository. There will be a duplicated ideographic() test, for instance, if a word starts with digits and ends with some Japanese characters. 1) uncommon 2) complexity This patch is really two patches because it also handles the case where whitespace numeric character references are inside a word, but I wanted to see the effects of both and they are each an excuse for the overhead of the loop. I'd split it into two pieces if committing it.

I checked what bash sees when dillo returns -1 for bad cmdline argument, and $? shows 255. It seems that out of range values turn into 255. Not that anyone will ever care beyond zero vs nonzero, but I'd like to change it to something valid. I could change it to 1...or 2...or I could use the values from sysexits.h (i.e., borrow their values as opposed to including it, since it doesn't appear to be standard). Any opinions?

Problem: Dillo2 does not recognize True Type font

I built dillo2 for my Debian5 desktop and found that Chinese text were not correctly displayed. All Chinese glyphs are displayed in empty blocks. I found that it's because the dillo2 that I built only recognized type1 font and did not recognize truetype font. I did a small test as the stated in the following to find the cause. I know it is not normal, because people don't have such problem. I wonder if this problem can be solved by setting proper ./configure options or by modifying Makefile. If you have any idea, please help. Thanx. At first, I suspect that FLTK2 does not support multi-national language dispaly. So I wrote a small program to test it. I used: "g++ -o fltkhello1 fltkhello1.cxx -I/usr/local/include -L/local/lib -lfltk2 -lXext -lXft -lX11 -lXi -lm" to compile. The result is not not satisfying. With the help from fltk-dev mail list, I tried "fltk2-config --compile fltkhello1.cxx" and got correct result. In fact, "fltk2-config --compile fltkhello1.cxx" will execute the following command to compile: gcc -I/usr/local/include -I/usr/include/freetype2 -Wno-non-virtual-dtor -o fltkhello1 fltkhello1.cxx -L/usr/local/lib /usr/local/lib/libfltk2.a -lX11 -lXi -lXinerama -lXcursor -lXft -lpthread -lm -lXext -lsupc++ The interesting part is: my previous faulty compile command made my program only recognize type1 font (such as Bitstream Charter), and no truetype font is recognized. The problem was corrected by calling "fltk2-config --compile fltkhello1.cxx". Because in my desktop, all the Chinese glyphs are provided by truetype font, it caued FLTK2 program won't dispaly Chinese glyphs. I also add some code in Dillo 2 source code to hardcode fontname to be used to draw text, I found that only typ1 font was recognized, all truetype fonts are not recognized.

Hello, I'm french, so I'll hope you could understand me. I'm developing for IE 7, Firefox and Dillo. It's not necessary to respect the W3C because it is for local networking use. I need to have a table which have an height of 100% of the page and my attribute doesn't work. I've put " height='100%' " in my <table> and I've tried with CSS too. In Firefox and IE that works but not in Dillo. In Dillo, there is only the width works. So, I would like to know if there is a solution to have a table or the body of 100% of the Dillo windows? CSS class handling updated

Hi, the CSS class handling has been updated to support multiple class names as defined in the CSS 2.1 specification. Obviously dillo now has to do some more work to handle the cases with multiple class names. However I hope that at least on pages that do not use this feature performance did not change noticably. If you find a case where the current code feels slower than 2.1.1 please let me know. Cheers, Johannes

Bug in Dillo's menu

Dear Dillo developers, I just found a little bug in the dillo's menu: When I click on the tool button (the one, where one can de/activate CSS) and I don't want to click on one of it's items (maybe because I pressed the wrong button or something), it is impossible to get out. I just can't simply close the menu by again click on the tool button. Clicking somewhere else (i.e. on another menu button) will not close the tool button. The only way to close the menu seems to be a click on one of it's items. Exactly the same thing happens with the F-menu button. What I also noticed: Sometimes dillo seems to hang, when visiting the "Bug Insertion" page on the dillo homepage: When I click on some of the drop-down menus or the text field, suddenly dillo freezes. I'm using Dillo 2.1.1 (Ubuntu binary "dillo+ssl" dillo_2.1.1-0+dillo1~jaunty1_amd64.deb, libfltk2.0-dev_2.0.0~r6671-0+devfil1_amd64.deb). It would be nice, if anyone could have a look into this. Hi Alan, A fellow user of the irex iliad tried to compile dillo2 for it (PXA255) and had similar issues with fltk2 (it was http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showpost.php?p=301183&postcount=84 ). Would you mind posting the configure flags that you have used for kdrive, fltk2 and dillo2? Thanks a lot. Hi All, I am trying to port Dillo to i.MX27 (ARM9) processor. Using LTIB build system (www.ltib.org) to cross-compile FLTK. I cross-compiled FLTK2, but it is crashing, I can't run any demo example. To FLTK1.3 everything works fine, I ran all examples successfully. To FLTK2 nothing works. I searched Internet for similar error, but nothing solves it. I tested these FLTK revision: fltk-2.0.x-r6793 fltk-2.0.x-r6101 It appears to crash at "fltk::setfont". In fact I can see "bad font: fixed" message just before that "Segmentation Fault". We're planning a bugfix release because it turns out that the PNG image size fix added right before the 2.1 release was incorrect. The nominal release date is Friday, but of course we'll see... Considering how I ripped out a bunch of extraneous system includes right after the 2.1 release, it would be a comfort to know that the code in the repository still compiles for everyone.

There are still many more code-cleanups to do and add a couple of documentation features here and there.... It isn't 'pretty', but someone with more skills in the 'design' area can do better than me, I've got the system (which is pretty dumb and slow, IMO). There are, however, three issues I have: 1. I still haven't sorted things with the pager to have tabs behave 'correctly', but that should be _too_ hard, just quite some research. 2. When I destroy a tab, their order gets 'mixed up', but only sometimes. 3. For some reason, clicking on some tabs isn't working (not the buttons, but the tabs). I'll go into them and I think that 3 and 2 are related. I just decided to inform all of you how progress was going. Jo?o

Well, I promised I would report to you when I got more free time. Guess what, I'm on vacation! Getting free time from my own personal projects finally lets me take a closer look at Dillo. I am sorry for being away for such a long time, though. I would like to contribute to one area that I have contributed previously -- the close-tab button. It isn't critical, I know, but, for now, it's the best I can do. The idea now is to finally have a button in each tab. It is tough, but I am getting somewhere. The 'initial' drawing part is done, but I have had to make some small changes to some virtual functions, and also changing non-virtual functions and finding a way to 'enable' them in the code. It's pretty hackish right now, but I have managed to print the button and am now starting to handle all the events and different button states (clicked, over, etcetera). I'll keep you updated! Jo?o

But this patch alone won't have any effect, all MSG(...) from Paths::init() won't write anything to output due to prefs.show_msg not being set to TRUE at that moment. Patch dillo-use-MSG-asap.patch moves a_Prefs_init() before Paths::init() is called. Hope it's not breaking anything. A new one seen in the bugtracker... a_Bookmarks_chat_add() sets URL to NULL, so it needs to be handled. Anyway, the reason this is interesting is that I had always figured the URL_*() macros were protecting against a NULL URL, when really they protect against NULL fields in URLs.

Here is an idea for viewport keybindings. It just builds a SimpleVector once and lets all of the viewports point to it, which I think goes against the dillo/dw boundary rules, but we'll see how the general idea goes over...

In which case the search panel is temporarily shown, until Esc is pressed. If it can be done with less variables, no problem. Been testing dillo 2.1 for some time and would like to share my experience. It's really great to see some basic css support (appearance of most if not all websites has improved alot), properly resized images, redirection and basic authentication working now :) Anyway, even dillo improved alot recently there still seems to be some issues. Here are some I've noticed after testing this release for few days: Rendering 1) ubuntu.lt Not sure if it's dillo fault or website's malformed stylesheet, but with default dillo settings some of the lithuanian characters are not displayed. This can be fixed by just adding "* {font-family: serif !important}" to the style.css. Here is a pic with some of the places where letters are missing marked in red: http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/2227/ubuntult.png 2) gmail It's nice that login works now, but with default dillo settings the size of most of the text is 1px. This can be partially fixed by adding font_min_size to dillorc, but it's obviously a dillo bug as this doesn't happen with links-hacked. 3) google What's with the textarea in the top left corner of the page? And just for information: signing out doesn't work because it requires basic javascript support (works with links-hacked). 4) Black on black, white on white... http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=42776&start=2660&sid=a5712… For some reason black font color is used here and we get black text on black background in some posts (doesn't happen with links-hacked). http://www.acetoneteam.org/ Background color is not set here and if we have "body {background-color: white}" rule in our style.css file, we get white text on white background. 5) http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6592005 What's with the PINK blocks? If that's more of a "feature" then a bug, can the color be changed by using some css rule? 6) http://www.binaryworld.skynet.lt/DUK.html If we use one link with fragment identifier in the page, all the others are marked as visited too. 7) Authentication Basic authentication does work now, but at first the server displays a message saying "wrong credentials or browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials" and only then a window pops up asking for the credentials... UI 1) Positioning the tab close button on the top RIGHT corner of the browser isn't a good thing because: a) The distance between the most commonly used buttons and the tab close button is pretty big (especially when widescreen monitors are pretty common nowadays); b) It only allows closing the active tab; I think it would be much better if all tabs had close buttons or at least the button was placed near the last tab. 2) Trivial but... because the setting to enable/disable image loading now is in the wrench menu it is two clicks away instead of one as it used to be in dillo 2.0. Maybe css settings could be left where they are now, but the setting for enabling/disabling images could be moved where it was in dillo 2.0? 3) UPPERCASE letters should be used in the File menu to define keyboard shortcuts, because now L looks like I (Open url... ctrl+l) 4) Don't you think "Are you sure you want to close the browser?" message is pretty annoying? Other: It seems whoever designed the new website theme has no idea what READABILITY means... It looks like someone just used some stupid online color picker, which just picks some similar colors to the one user chooses. The old website looked MUCH MUCH better. Imho, it's a regression... css font-size and nested tables

Hi, trying to find the reason for the tiny fonts in gmail, I found the following: <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> td {font-family: arial; font-size:50%} </style> </head> <body> <table> <tr> <td> foo bar </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <table> <tr> <td>foo bar</td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> </body> </html> is rendered with the same font size in both lines in firefox, konqueror, and opera. Can someone enlighten me why the nested <td> does not decrease the font size again in the second line? If I change the CSS to act on <table> instead of <td> it works as expected. Cheers, Johannes

form widgets, ascent/descent

I was playing around in dw, and noticed that, whereas form widgets normally like to put much of their height into descent, when style sets the height, Textblock::calcWidgetSize() puts it all into ascent. I checked firefox and saw that their form widgets ascend. If we made everything ascend and just put font->descent into the descent, it would make life simpler. Or, nearly. I guess there is RELIEF_Y_THICKNESS, but I could almost ignore that...
