Hi! It seems that I'm getting old that I tried to set the option "allow_white_bg" to "false"; to find out that the replacement color is hardcoded! If I haven't missed something, and noone objets, I'll add a prefs variable "white_bg_replacement". BTW: is there a reason that there is still a prefs variable "bg_color", while fonts (the actual fonts, not the font classes) are now defined by CSS? Sebastian

Search from address bar

Hi, Currently when using a window manager where focus follows mouse, making a search usually requires you to reach for the mouse. One way to avoid this would be to allow using search engine(s) directly from the address bar. Searches would have to be differentiated somehow from URLs. Dillo already has a customizable list of engines in preferences, so one natural solution would be to interpret url strings which start with the name of a search engine as searches to be performed using it, so that e.g. 'wikipedia slartibartfast', 'google foo' and 'weather oulu' do what you would expect. Other browsers I'm sending to HTML 3.2 are Netscape 3 and 4, MSIE 3 through 5, and any otherwise unidentifiable browser claiming to be Mozilla 4.0. Hi! I've just push some changes for a better image scaling. See these two examples for the effect: - http://www.dillo.org/~sgeerken/grid.html - http://www.dillo.org/~sgeerken/tenniel.html I'm not completely sure about the side-effects. It should be slightly slower (see comment: it can be improved), and it will not work with other that RGB and RGBA data (for the case that Imgbuf is used for other representations). do not truncate long filenames beginning with dot

Sometimes, when trying to save a document with long filenames, the truncated default save-as filename will start with a dot. (Ie. a hidden file.) This behaviour should change. Perhaps truncate the end of the filename instead (and preserve the file extension)?

shortcuts to open links in new tab and new window

Currently it seems like you can only have it one way, via the "middle_click_opens_new_tab" dillorc option. (And to do it the other way, you have to right click and navigate the menus. A lengthy process :). I think it would be quite useful if both were available via a shortcut... perhaps have this option toggle the meaning of ShiftMiddleClick and MiddleClick... whereby one will open the link in a new window, and the other in a new tab?

Preventing page caching

How do I prevent page caching in Dillo? I have tried adding <meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache" /> but it has no effect in Dillo. In Firefox it works as expected. I'm using Dillo 3.0.3. Any clues? Regards, August

Problems with DuckDuckGo

Hi! Somehow, dillo seems to have problems with redirections from DuckDuckGo to other sites. If you search (Ctrl-S) for "foo", with standard preferences, there is no problem, while searching for "foo !i" does not work: dillo stops retrieving the URL <https://duckduckgo.com/lite/?kp=-1&q=foo+%21i>. Entering this URL in Firefox works correctly, redirecting to Google image search. Sebastian

MSG and different levels of chattiness

I was thinking this morning about how dillo can either be set to be extremely chatty or basically silent, and that maybe it would be good to have some intermediate possibilities. So here I tried adding a msg_level_min (1-4: 1 for msgs like open_url, 2 for policies like denying redirection or information like creating a file, 3 for warnings, 4 for dillo errors) : http://www.dillo.org/test/msg_levels.diff dillorc makes it sound like show_msg is mostly for debugging, whereas we use stdout a fair amount for msgs that we want a user to see... But then there's the fact that maybe no one runs anything from a cmdline anymore, in which case maybe we should also/instead be logging to a fltk window that can pop up like the window for html bugs -- or possibly a widget that can show up in the UI (although the latter might be brittle and an excessive amount of trouble).

Hi there, The final dillo-3.0.3.tar.bz2 is ready for download [1]. :) Please notice that it has not been announced yet and the web site still needs the last touches before making it public. The idea is for you to download and compile/run test it. It's the same rc2 with the release date updated. Just that! Hi Jean-Pierre, it seems to be crashing within the fltk library. Did you compile fltk-1.3 yourself? If so, you could try whether tests/fonts from the fltk tarball works on your system. The output of fc-list : family | cut -d ',' -f 2 | sort would also be interesting. At least the man page get's installed with most binary packages. I tried to include some info about the pattern files and how they can be downloaded - please give it a review. Also we would need to install the install-hyphenation script, so that it becomes part of binary packages. If we do that it would have to be renamed to dillo-install-hyphenation or something like that. Does this sound ok? Cheers, Johannes PS: For me the documentation issue for hyphenation patterns is the only thing left before we could make a release candidate, or am I missing something?

Profiling dillo

Hi! Has anyone tried to use gprof for profiling dillo? Using "--enable-gprof" for configure seems to work, and calling the tests (e. g.. test/dw-example) create the file "gmon.out", but not so does starting src/dillo. The option "-pg" is set everywhere, so I do not know what the difference is. Any ideas? Sebastian

'text-transform: capitalize' and hyphenation do not play well together (example attached). The fragments are capitalized, and the word is sometimes split as "Cap-" "Talization", losing the 'i'.

There is an outdated comment in src/IO/IO.c. hg blame src/IO/IO.c also shows that it is older than the code. This patch removes comment. #defines are similar to SHUT_RD, SHUT_WR and SHUT_RDWR, but shutdown is not used: code just dCloses descriptor when both sides are asked to be closed.

http://www.inventati.org/noname/dillo/chain-cleanup.patch 1. Replaced dNew with dMalloc and dNew0 with dMalloc0. This way it is possible to use (sizeof *var) instead of repeating variable type. By the way, when 'count' is constant, dMalloc is easier to use, and when count is not constant, integer overflow can happen in dNew during multiplication. It looks like there are no such errors, but I think check should be added or, better, dCalloc can be introduced so libc checks for such cases. 2. Replaced #defines with enums and made them uppercase so it is easier to distinguish them from variables. This style is already used in most modules. IO should be fixed too, probably. 3. Moved duplicate code from a_Chain_fcb and a_Chain_bcb to Chain_cb. Anonymous structures for connections (forward or backward) are introduced in ChainLink structure for this purpose. 4. Removed unused a_Chain_unlink function. Chain links are just dFreed instead. Anyway, there is no function to connect existing links back, so disconnected link can only be dFreed. 5. Replaced AtoB_branch and BtoA_branch parameters of a_Chain_link_new with single Branch parameter. They were always equal anyway, and using different branch identifiers for one connection makes no sense, as branch ID is used to distinguish between Answer and Query chains. Branch parameter can be eliminated completely by separating existing CCC callbacks into answer and query callbacks. Currently instead of two functions we have one with if (Branch == 1) { ... } else { ... }
