0.7.1 release

Hi! The new 0.7.1 bugfix release is out. It solves the problem of disappearing bookmarks and some other minor things. It works on 64bit machines and some problems remain on _some_ Solaris stations; these should be fixed in 0.7.2. Please upgrade ASAP!!! Coredump

I was browsing (using the CVS version of Dillo) and clicking on a link made Dillo coredump. I can't guess what the cause is, but I'll attach a backtrace so the more experienced can tell. (And sorry if it turns out to be a known problem.) I don't have any other information as I don't even remember what page I was browsing.

After i wrecked my glibc i had to reinstall, slackware this time. Now the strange behaviour with the numbers after links is gone. And he lived happily ever after with dillo 0.7. I found a new strange thing: If i position my mouse above a link and roll my mousewheel, it is marked as visited. No idea why and wether it is perhaps wanted, but i thought mailing it wouldn't wrong. Go you great coders, you do a great job! :) Andi

Line terminating characters

Within a <textarea> tag, Dillo seems to treat linefeeds, (0Ah), as the line separator, and displays carriage returns (0Dh), as a character unavailable glyph. I think this is wrong - in CDATA, isn't linefeed supposed to be ignored, and carriage return supposed to be the line separator? If you repeatedly send data submitted in a textarea tag, back to the browser in a textarea tag, you keep adding blank lines in to the data. John.

I really appreciate the work put into the bookmarks plugin. However, I hope that this plugin solution is just temporary. Just my opinion, but I find manipulation of bookmarks: renaming, sorting into sections, etc., to be so unwieldy that it is easier to just edit the bm.txt file. Albert

It looks to me like perhaps older Solaris had -lposix4 and newer Solaris has -lrt for nanosleep(). On Solaris 8 posix4 is a symlink to rt. Perhaps configure can figure it out? freezing of dillo.0.7.0

Is the description of the 'freezing' of dillo given in the README an uptodate description of the problem. This implies that it is a kernel version effect... I originally compiled dillo0.6.6 against slack 7, kernel 2.4.5 (IIRC, or even 2.2.18) with no problems. However dillo0.7.0 does freeze, even when compiled against the headers for, and run under, kernel 2.4.19. BUT it compiles and runs ok when compiled under slack8.1, with the same headers and kernel. Is this a gcc problem? (I'm using 2.91.66 with slack 7). (The suggested patch poll-fix-fast of course does not run in cleanly against 0.7.0., and though the source compiles the executable still freezes). Sorry if I've missed something on this. Hi there! I've been reviewing the bugtrack and receiving a lot of emails with regard to problems with solaris. There were several issues, some solved in CVS and others that escape our scope (Solaris is so inconsistent that some versions require certain libraries that others not, some fail, some work...) If someone has the patience to tweak configure.in to detect the different subversions of Solaris and add the magical options, I'd put it in. Just read the ChangeLog for a brief of the fixes. --------------------------------------------------- NOTE: There're lots of fixes, not just for Solaris. --------------------------------------------------- Please send me feedback about how it went. Sadly I just received _one_ mail report. Andreas: Please test the flock patch. It should work with *BSD as it defines flock(). Sebastian: Please review BUG#424, Keith says it's a trivial fix. Ah, can anyone reproduce/not_reproduce bug 406? Has anyone with a 64bit machine had NO trouble at all? :-) Cheers Jorge.-

I digged through the historical releases and the root of the problem is very far (before 0.3.2!). hello, in my neverending search for the perfect browser i stumbled across dillo. it looks great and quite usable, altough it's still alpha. unfortunately dillo 0.7.0 won't run on solaris8 (ultra30), so i wrote a fix. turns out every other os is affected by this bug, too. solaris just seems to be less forgiving in this matter :) to compile on solaris you may also need some workarounds, take a look at bugreports 402, 413 and 415. problem: solaris: see bugreport 416, dillo enters endless loop on startup, repeating "IO_write: Changing io->Buf (0)" linux: no immediate effect, although some filedescriptors are in state "open" for too long. i've not really looked into it but this should have negative effects in the long run. reason: in IO.c, function IO_submit, filedescriptor-flag close_on_exec is not set the right way (not at all). on solaris, as a direct result, non-blocking io will accidentally be handled via O_NDELAY instead of O_NONBLOCKING, resulting in an endless loop. patch: *** IO.c.org Sat Mar 1 21:56:13 2003 --- IO.c Sat Mar 1 21:56:54 2003 *************** *** 530,536 **** /* Set FD to background and to close on exec. */ fcntl(r_io->FD, F_SETFL, ! I'm compiling dillo on Cygwin, which lacks of flock/lockf, but has support for POSIX file lock (fcntl()). To enable the cookies support, I write a patch for it. Bookmarks no longer work

I had some trouble with my system and had to manually kill several processes. Ever since then Dillo bookmarks no longer work. I get the following: Nav_open_url: Url=>dpi:/bm/< [connect]: Connection refused Not implemented How can I fix this?

dillo-devHi, I'm going to build dillo on Windows, using Cygwin as porting tool and running envrionment. Guided by http://homepage.ntlworld.com/steven.obrien2/, I can build dillo-0.6.5 successfully. But there is no implmentation for lockf on Cygwin. So I'd like to know where can I find the flock->lockf patch. I want to apply a reverse patch on the new version of dillo. TIA. segmentation fault

Hi, Thanks for this great project, i love dillo. There is just one problem with the 0.7 version. I get a segmentation fault every time i click on a link. I newly compiled dillo-0.7.0 without any errors and i starts perfectly, but if i move my mouse over a link the url in the status bar is follow by "?135070228,-1073744832" without the quotes and the numbers may vary. If i click on the link dillo exits permanently. If i type in any urls in the address field, there is no problem. I know that I don't have libpng, libjpeg etc installed (by mistake, I was compiling on machine without them), but I mean the 'usability ... yes ; presence ... no' problem. Hi, as I could not find some webmaster contact address at the website at http://dillo.auriga.wearlab.de/ , I'm posting to this list. I like the idea of providing some information on how to checkout the CVS version of dillo, so people without CVS experience can try it out. However, the information about CVS given on http://dillo.auriga.wearlab.de/cvs.html is incomplete. The page give the command to to a checkout, but it neglects to mention that you first have to do a login with an empty password. I'd propose you change the page to read: Check out from our server at wearLab! Just run these two commands: cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@auriga.wearlab.de:/sfhome/cvs/dillo login cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@auriga.wearlab.de:/sfhome/cvs/dillo co dillo When prompted for a password, just press Return. Consequently, if the portion of the screen being refreshed doesn't yeild the DwPageLine where the float occurs, then that float wont get properly refreshed. The pointer points to the lowest (highest index) line containing a float that hangs down low enough that it may need to be refreshed also. (Note that if there's another float, then it will be either on the same line or refered back to by the pointer for the float line so that all the floats in the margin get refreshed.) Thanks.

Now, i happen to hate frames, and prefer to do the 'fake frames in tables' thang (which other people hate :-) ) , but their are a lot of misguided webdevs out there who have chosen to implement their site with frames, and i actually need to get information from them every now and then. Changing font_factor dynamically

[Please pardon me if this is the wrong forum for such feature requests.] I'm using dillo with familiar on my iPAQ. One thing I'm regularly missing is a possibility to change the font_factor setting dynamically: For the iPAQ's small display (240x320 minus a few decorations), a single font_factor just can't fit for all different pages: For some pages, I'm glad with font_factor=0.5, with others, font_factor=0.6 is readable. I guess it's a major effort to implement a dynamical switch of the font_factor (e.g. using a pull-down menu), but I would be glad if you could discuss this feature request. -l switch not working if <base href="..."> is given

Hi, The -l switch is meant to disallow retrieving external resources. This works fine unless the html file contains a <base href="something"> tag: in that case, the external resources are retrieved. To check this, I made a test case with an excerpt of the google search page. The attached html files just display the google logo in a table. These two attached html files differ in that "index.html" has the <base> tag commented out, making it non functional, whereas in "index-base.html" it is taken into account. To test this bug, save both html files in a directory. Then create there a subdirectory called ./images where you save the logo.gif. (This is meant for index.html where the missing <base> defaults it to the current directory. In that case, dillo index.html will show the logo, as expected). Then run dillo with the -l switch on the two files: dillo -l index.html index-base.html. The index-base.html will show the logo retrieved from http://www.google.com/intl/en/. The expected behaviour is to not retrieve it. I'll try to look into this bug this weekend, but I'm not so familiar with dillo's internals, so do not expect a miracle. Hi, Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug? Following the instructions in dillo-0.7.0/INSTALL, I configure, compile, install and run Dillo, then click on the Bookmarks menu. If dillo is compiled like this: ./configure --prefix=$HOME make && make install-strip upon installation, the install script will try to see it $HOME/etc dir exists. Why this ? Dillo may look in /etc/dillorc if there was no .dillo/dillorc file in $HOME, but since $HOME/.dillo/ exists it is only logical that the script should try to install the rc file in $HOME/.dillo and not $HOME/etc Therefore I suggest that the script should look for $HOME/.dillo not $HOME/etc and it would not be a bad ideea if the dir is missing for the install script to create it... Hi, I'm typically a lurker, but I thought I would release a few modifications I made to dillo. My patch also includes someone's (I can't recall whose) patch that adds external downloading and opening in external browsers. I thought someone may be interested. Here are the modifications I made: <alt>-w closes the window (instead of <ctrl>-q) <alt>-b in viewport opens a new window with the bookmarks <alt>-u view source <ctrl>-r in viewport reloads the current page (bookmark button loads bookmarks in current viewport <ctrl>-h loads homepage vi-style scroll (h = left, j = down, k = up, l = right) <esc> button stops loading the current page (this has no effect on images--they still load if page is fully loaded) The patchfile can be found at: http://www.xmission.com/~locutus/various-locutus.patch and the modifications above can be seen at: http://www.xmission.com/~locutus/index.html#dillo If you find this useful, enjoy! Hi there! Finally, after a lot of work, the first release candidate tarball for dillo-0.7.0 is ready. The idea is to test this tarball and if it has no problems, the 0.7.0 release will be made of it (with only minor or cosmetical changes). Once again, I'm specially interested on non GNU/Linux platforms testing (bacause I already tested GNU/Linux). ------------------- Summary of changes: + Included the bookmarks server code inside the main tree (no separate tarball now, it all builds at once) + Added a workaround for nanosleep on Solaris in configure.in + Added a new icon for bookmarks and set ALT+B or ; as shortcuts. (there's also the option of hiding the icon from dillorc). + Made a new splash screen (contents and design). + Made a custom D_SUN_LEN definition to avoid inconsistencies with SUN_LEN, also switched memory clearing to sizeof and defined AF_LOCAL when not present. + Made ~/.dillorc/ have precedence over PATH when searching for plugins. + Added a SIGCHLD handler to avoid zombies when the dpi server is killed manually before dillo exits. + Bound find text to /. Now it works with CTRL+F or / + Added an icon for bookmarks. + Image tooltip now works with "title" instead of "alt". (had mistankenly switched to "text" before...) bm_srv12: + Made the convertion (import) from the old bookmarks format automatic. + Made it work when there's no bm.txt file present, and also when there's a zero sized bm.txt. + Fixed some Solaris compatibility glitches. + Fixed SUN_LEN issues. ------------------- The test emphasis should be on the new features. Please remember first to remove the bookmarks server binary from your ~/.dillo/ directory and killing the server if running, before testing. Now, a simple: ./configure make make install-strip should build and install everything right (it works here!) The plan is to make the official release this Sunday or early on Monday. Please send your feedback to this list. I'll be updating the site in the meanwhile, so please focus on the tarball. Last but not the least, the splash screen includes a link to the text version of an interview I gave to tux.cl magazine. The original is in spanish so I made a quick translation to english so everyone can read it. If you are knowledgeable in english grammar please read/correct it and send me the diffs. FYI: -l option and URL redirections

Hi, When an HTTP URL is given along with the -l command line option, and if the URL is redirected by the server, the new URL is handled normally as if the -l option was not given. This behaviour can be seen with the http://www.google.com URL, at least when requesting it from France, in which case a 302 error code is given and Dillo is redirected to http://www.google.fr/. In that case, the Google logo images are downloaded. Whereas a direct dillo -l http://www.google.fr/ won't download the images. I do not consider this a serious issue, but for consistency I would have expected Dillo to show me the redirection error page with the target URL. The target URL being clickable and also retaining the SpamSafe mode. As said, this is not a high priority issue, it is rather a consistency issue. -- Melvin Hadasht
