the #anchor links not going to history

Hello, there seems to be the following problem with the history of browsing: If first.html contains a link <a href="second.html">, then clicking on it gets you to second.html - OK. If second.html contains a link <a href=#"anchor"> pointing to a place in second.html, then clicking on the link gets you to #anchor - OK. But then, when you press [,] to go back, you get back to first.thml. Definitely, you want [,] to get you back to the beginning of second.html. It looks like the #anchor links don't go into the 'stack of previous places'. I don't mean that second.html#anchor should be remembered as a unique record in browser history (e.g. for future runs, after dillo supports it), but definitely it's a step 'forward from second.html', so going 'back' should go to second.html, not first.html. Workaround for bugs 396 & 445 (entities display)

Hello, all Dillo developers ! As mentioned in HTML 4.01 spec what should be done when html renderer cannot display a symbol is up to renderer. Current code renders all characters with code 0..255 but skip all the others silently. I prefer lynx/links approach to this problem. If they should display symbol which cannot be displayed properly in current locale they render ascii-only representation of this symbol, e.g. "α" -> "a", "Χ" -> "X", "&lowast;" -> "*". Included small patch does that for all entities mentioned in html.c and this table is much more compact than links' one and does not allow transliteration of foreign language as links does. I believe that this patch is a temporary solution for this problem and when dillo migrates on GTK2 and this problem will be solved mush more reliable and elegant way by using standard symbol fonts via fontsets. I should mention also that if your encodings is not ISO-8859-1 (Latin-1) then you should probably use Russian patch http://stuphead.asplinux.ru/dillo/index.html for localization. It shall be updated soon to translate entities to your encoding and show representations for others. Yours, Nikita

hi all! Tabbed version of Dillo

FYI, I have added the often-requested 'tabbed browsing' feature to dillo. Even though it works fine, I want to finish the patch before I send it off for inclusion (or rejection, see below). To add this feature, I have created a new 'document' abstraction in Dillo, the 'DilloDoc'. This contains all data related to a single 'browser document' (including navigation history, etc), many parts of which used to reside in the 'BrowserWindow'. This was necessary to separate 'interface' functionality from 'document' functionality, as a tabbed browser can have 'document' activity going on in the background (eg. load a tab in the background while reading another tab, etc). When ready, I'll send a patch to jcid(a)softhome.net. <OT> I know that tabbed functionality can also be implemented at the window manager level, but I happen to like having it in the browser itself. I wrote a http to https proxy and simple patch to make dillo to start this up (when some https query is made) and forward https queries through unix domain socket to the proxy. Server certificate chains verification is not implemented (yet). It probably could be made into a dpi plugin in future, but currently dpi seemed to lack some needed properties (like forwarding full http querys with cookies to the proxy), which are used by the patch and proxy interface. oh and it could be get here: http://www.zone.ee/myzz/dillo/sslgw-0.1.tar.gz -- mzz

animated GIF's

Hi to all Dillo developers, Thank's to Jorge to point me out the right way to communicate with Dillo developers. I have an embedded system based on Geode( another x86 embedded implementation) and trying to run Dillo on it. Everything's fine till the moment I want to show an animated GIF. I did include few changes into the "gif.c" to handle animated GIF's as frame timeout and iteration counter. Because of lack of time and knowledge of gtk+ I do not know how to show consecutive frames( I start to read gtk+,gdk FAQ, Tutorials and so on 2 weeks ago). Of cource animated GIF must be run with fork or as pthread in Dillo but for now I am interested to find out how I could show different frames. After I got frame data from the cache gif.c is returning to cache server and then I am missing the part what signal or event in Dillo is triggering displaying of frame. I updated my patch (which was derived from another patch I don't remember from who) for current CVS, and added an autoconf check to add the necessary compiler and linker flags automatically. Under [details] there should be a checkbox and the label "download". There should be a submit image before the line that says "Travel Bug". This is present in 0.7.2. I have found one form which seems not to work with dillo but with netscape. Unfortunately, that is a form for a transferal from a bank and it works fine with the demo account, so that is really hard to test. Does anyone know if that is a bug in dillo and/or how to fix that? cut & paste in 0.7.2

I just upgraded 0.7.0 to 0.7.2 on my LFS-4.0 system. It compiled and installed without errors, and seems to run just as 0.7.0 did. However, althougth I can select text, I cannot find a menu to cut or paste the selected text. How is this done?

Hi all, Hope this is the correct place for this. Certainly enjoy using Dillo, can't wait for later versions to come out. Am I missing something or will this not work in Dillo. If I want to post at http://bsdforums.org I first sign in, then I go to post but I am told I am not signed in. This is also the case with trying to log into http://my.yahoo.com Just wondering if I am overlooking something or if this is not capable with Dillo. Selection bug

Hi! Those who have reported crashes in selection, please checkout the latest CVS and test again. In some cases, a_Selection_button_press does not set the limits (selection->from and selection->to), but then leaves the selection state as NONE. So there must be an extra check, a_Selection_button_release and a_Selection_button_motion should only react at selection state SELECTION. Sebastian

Fake FTP support?

I was able to add FTP support to my copy of Dillo with a one line patch in IO/Url.c: static UrlMethod2_t cccList[] = { {"http" , a_Http_ccc}, + {"ftp" , a_Http_ccc}, {"file" , a_File_ccc}, Of course this is cheating becuase it requires an http proxy server. But given that I have such a server running, ftp in Dillo works well. Perhaps Dillo could look at the ftp_proxy environment variable, or an ftp_proxy option in the config file, and if it is set use that option to handle ftp URLs by sending http requests to the proxy. I don't know what the maintainers will think of this idea. From one point of view it is a good thing to do because it doesn't add duplicate ftp-handling code to Dillo itself - the proxy server already has code to make ftp requests and translate them to web pages, so why not use it? On the other hand the maintainer may feel that ftp should be either fully supported within Dillo or not supported at all. (Using an external program for ftp is okay, but having the ftp sites shown directly within Dillo is much smoother and faster. You can use the Back button, for example.) But anyway I hope some people find the patch useful in the short term. -- Ed Avis <ed(a)membled.com>

Oh yeah, the speed thing is fantastic! Since loading 1300 fonts in my machine, Opera went from firing up in six seconds to taking 23 seconds to load. Dillo starts in 0.78 seconds! ;-) -- Gregg

Konqueror is an excellent browser. However is main disadvantage is that it is a slow starter. Therefore I appreciate dillo very much. I use it for viewing local .html, especially documentations, and as an super quick internet viewer. Therefore I configured dillo as browser for my mail client, emacs, and many more programms. Feature request: send URL to

When you come across a page that Dillo cannot render, it would be nice to have a button--or option added to right-click menu--that would allow the user to send the requested URL to another browser or script, which might be specified in .dillorc. Something like ROX's Send to, but this would only need a single option. Obviously I'm telling you I'm lazy :) Cheers, Todd

selection and performance

One of dillo's main advantages is it's incredible speed and efficiency, but somehow the selection code doesn't seem to keep up with this. it seems to have some scalability problem that makes it use excessive amounts of cpu when selecting large parts of complex pages (tables), and slows dillo down to a crawl even on my p3/750 (which dillo usually runs lightning fast on). to reproduce the problem, load: http://users.auriga.wearlab.de/~r00t/table.html (a table of 21x21 cells), and then try to select all cells by dragging from the top left to the lower right. cpu usage grows immensely, and near the end it slows down to a crawl. the script used to create the table (to avoid duplicate work if you need other test-cases): { echo '<html><body><table border=1>';for a in $(seq 0 20);do echo '<tr>'; for b in $(seq 0 20);do echo '<td>'"$a-$b"'</td>';done;echo '</tr>';done; echo '</table></body></html>';}>table.html if this is a known limitation, i'm sorry to bug you with it, but it seemed worth reporting.
