Can anybody here tell me why Dillo renders the 'Go' button full form width on my page here: https://linicks.net/cdn1/ (forget the iFrame and other stuff). It renders nice and small in other browsers [ Go ], but no matter what I try, the 'Go' button runs the full distance: [Go ]. Dillo reports no errors on the source. Hi all, I first used 'dillo' many years go on a 486 running Mandrake Linux around 2004. Since then, forgot all about it. Until now - it is brilliant. Anyway, to the point. I run my own web server, and while debugging CGI perl scripts etc. dillo somehow caches the results from the output produced. Usually shift+[refresh] drops the cache and gets the new page, but the only way I get get dillo to do this is exit, and restart (no big deal with a 0.02 second start-up time :) ) Ideas? abort on read failure

I was recently in an environment with a very weak connection. With most sites, if I didn't get a full page, lsof would show the connection still open and just sitting there. Some sites _would_ close the connection, but unfortunately dillo wouldn't give the user any indication that further waiting was pointless. I just committed some code that aborts the connection on read failure. It also gives a status msg to the user (though status messages are imperfect, as discussed last month). The case where no data was received could bear further improvement, but I had limited time and improved what I needed most. It got a week or so of "free" testing in that bad environment, and hasn't given me any trouble since then in more solid environments.

Non-drawing of nested tables

The attached html draws nested tables with green borders on (old) Safari, Chrome and Firefox on OSX 10.6.8. On the tip of the default branch of dillo, it draws the page title and nothing else. I plan to keep deploying it, in the hope that dillo's behaviour will change toward everything else's. If someone wants to supervise me toward accepting a patch, then I'm willing to explore toward fixing it. Regards, James.

Feature request: Server connection status message

Dear Dillo developers, since the bug tracker is down, please let me propose a new feature over the mailing list. >From time to time I am in places with a very bad internet connection. when I surf with Dillo and click on a link it appears that nothing happens, except that the link color has changed. Then I'm usually wondering what's going on now. Did I really click the link? Has the server has been found? Is the server responding very slowly? Does Dillo receive data from it? Or is my connection dead? To avoid this confusion, I'd like to propose a status message which is displayed in the status bar at the very bottom of the Dillo window. The message could say what is currently been done. For example, Firefox says "Looking up www.example.de" "Waiting for www.example.de" "Transferring data from www.example.de" Many thanks and best regards, Alex

Dillo crash on HTTPS connection (to MS web site)

I am not sure how to proceed, because my C/C++ programming skills are close to zero. But can make some debug effort if someone instructs me what to do. :) In short, Dillo crashes when I try to connect to the site of MS. Double buffering flicker on window resize.

Hi, dillo developers! I observed another nasty bug in Dillo dev-3.1 Maybe it is known. If so, excuse my ignorance. :) When the option buffered_drawing=2 for double buffering and the browser window is resized by the user, it seems that the back buffer is drawn on the screen too early after the reallocation and is full of garbage instead of the rendered page. This way, during the resizing, very heavy flicker appears, which IMHO is not good for double buffering drawing scheme. Solid rectangular placeholder for non-supported images

Hello, I read a news flux where each news item comes with a small image. Dillo does not like the markup and replaces the image with a rectangular placeholder with a solid colour fill. This happens even when images loading is disabled (while other regular images are simply not displayed, but not replaced by a filled rectangle), and the colour fill seems to be randomly chosen at Dillo startup. I think this behaviour was not intentional. Right now the workaround is to not compile gif support. The placeholder is then replaced by the alt text, which I prefer to some brightly coloured rectangle. Work on floats

In the repository at <http://flpsed.org/hgweb/dillo_grows>, I've recently worked on a new approach for floats (run doxygen and read html/dw-size-request-pos.html if you are interested), which fixes many problems we have with the code at <http://hg.dillo.org/dillo>. The new version seems to work quite stable, at least much more stable than the version in the main repository. For this reason, I'd like to merge soon, and hopefully, we'll eventually have a release supporting floats. There are some more developments at <http://flpsed.org/hgweb/dillo_grows>, positioned elements and stacking contexts (needed for the former), but these have been deactivated; work will continue after floats are complete. Dillo MS Windows Port

I spent some time last night examining the Dillo Windows port, as well as the DPLus version. The DPlus version has multiple patches for extra (likely not-needed?) features atop of the Windows port. So further limited my research to the Dillo Windows port to see what was only needed for Dillo to be functionally compiled on Windows platforms under Mingw. Performing a "diff -urN" on the Windows port against the vanilla Dillo-1.3.0, showed at the very end some stuff concerning socks.h/winsock2.h portability. There were other modifications, but not sure if those were really needed. Would appear they performed a lot of work, and it's sad to see the work just being ignored. Would be nice to see some basic portability for Windows integrated. However, basic and standardized work that is clean and can be integrated within the main Dillo tree. Would appear the DPlus version work went further with extra features, and can easily understand why they were likely not wanted within the main Dillo tree. -- Roger http://rogerx.freeshell.org/

Currently in dillorc there is "middle_click_opens_new_tab" which controls whether links that are middle clicked open in a new tab or a new window. How about allowing the ability to open it /the other way/ when that middle click is accompanied by, say, the CTRL button? (Instead of having to dig through the right-click menus to do this.) This can be trivially done by changing line 759 of html.cc (in dillo 3.0.5) to be something like: if (prefs.middle_click_opens_new_tab != (event->state == CONTROL_MASK))

Increase Menu Font

What hinders me from using Dillo more often, the menu font is quite relatively small compared to my monitor/display DPI or monitor/display size. I have a Dell U2713HM-IPS-LED Monitor, and usually find I have to increase the font size on most web pages. However, the menu GUI font should be relatively easy to increase, including when using DWM & DMenu here. However, increasing (or even decreasing) Dillo's menu font size may require editing system (ie. /usr) GTKRC/QTRC file settings? Should this not be something exported from FLTK, with a variable set within the dillorc file? Although there is a panel_size variable, the variable has always been set to large here within even my 19 inch monitors, and still proving to be still quite small compared to the size of the 19 inch monitors. -- Roger http://rogerx.freeshell.org/

Hello. First, sorry if this mailing list is not the good place to ask this, but it is the only way to contact dillo users that I have seen on the website (no IRC chan, forum, user mailing-list or.... only this dev ml). I am discovering dillo (at least a browser which does not eat all memory and take ages to start! Thanks for that guys.) and I have noticed that there might be a partial implementation of JS support ( it is yellow in http://www.dillo.org/Plans.html and there are bits of info there http://lists.dillo.org/pipermail/dillo-dev/2009-May/006434.html ). So, is this stuff in the current source tree, and if yes, how to enable it (compiling dillo won't be a problem if it is needed)? Thanks.

Chinese and french characters in web pages

Dear Dillo developers, First of all, I want to thank you for the great web browser dillo is: it is very fast, has most of the features I want and the rendering is improving greatly (I am using hg version currently). I would like to use dillo to view web pages written in chinese and also pages written in french. Currently, I cannot do both. To view web pages in chinese, I set the following fonts in my .dillo/dillorc: font_serif="WenQuanYi Bitmap Song" font_sans_serif="WenQuanYi Bitmap Song" The problem is that french characters like ?, ? or ? are not displayed with this font. To view web pages in french, I set the following fonts: font_serif="DejaVu Serif" font_sans_serif="DejaVu Sans" But then, chinese characters are displayed as empty squares. Is there a way to read both languages in the same instance of dillo? Thanks, Christophe

Downloading user agent

Hi, I am thinking about the User-Agent which is sent during downloads. Some sites block wget, probably because they do not want to learn robots.txt and do not like a tool doing massdownloads. So if you use dillo to download from such sites, you get a 403 forbidden. If wget would use dillo as user-agent (can be set via a parameter) in such cases, there would be no problem and it is not really wrong. Regards, Andreas

Font blacklist

Hi! After a dist upgrade to Debian Jessie some rather ugly fonts got installed, which make reading texts tedious. A possible workaround is attached: a blacklist for fonts (not yet committed). What do you think? Sebastian PS: strcasecmp may not be portable.

Setting the filename of a PDF response

I'm working on a web page with a form which generates a PDF document in memory and returns it to the user. In the response header I have set Content-Type: application/pdf Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="foo.pdf" However, Dillo seems to ignore the specified filename and instead uses the URL base name plus query string as the default filename in the download dialog window. Some of y'all might find this useful. If you put it in your path, you can invoke it "dill filename" or make it the default ap for maffs or regular htm(l)s for that matter. It lets Dillo read the Mozilla Archive File Format (*.maff) files. Maffs are pretty nice - if you haven't played with them you might like to try it. I got the new Dillo version 3.0.5 (in the master air-gapped box, which I yet have to clone onto this, for online, same hardware box), as it is available in gentoo: https://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/www-client/dillo/ but my problem with fonts (the FAQ issue http://www.dillo.org/FAQ.html#q27) to which eocene has kindly given the tip for in his message: http://lists.dillo.org/pipermail/dillo-dev/2015-April/010500.html For people reading this message offline, I'll paste his advice, since it is also important: If you go to dw/fltkplatform.cc and, in FltkFont::initSystemFonts(), remove the leading underscore in _MSG("Found font: %s%s%s\n", name, t & FL_BOLD ? " bold" : "", to get MSG("Found font: %s%s%s\n", name, t & FL_BOLD ? " bold" : "", and recompile, what does dillo say when you run it? And I was saying that that problem I still have in my 3.0.5. I hoped it would have been solved, but since it hasn't been, for me who am not really a developer, to go and recompile means first get (finally, it's been waiting for me since long) a little really deeper and dirty with the Gentoo ebuild system, and, basically compile my own ebuild... or... Or get Gentoo developers to do it for all of the Dillo Gentoo users. Since my eyes are sore from too small and non configurable fonts, I'm afraid I will have to do one of the above... For the latter, since this issue has been discussed, and previous to eocene's message you can see that I extensively described it, what do kind Dillo devs think: the second route to take, which is: file a bug on Gentoo bugzilla with basically updated real output from the new Dillo 3.0.5, might probably be shorter route to get this issue fixed? Hello, I want to inform you that I have built dillo-3.0.4.1 on FreeBSD 11.0-CURRENT #1 r287459M ARM platform using FreeBSD ports. This is remarkable because all non-text browsers I have tried are crashing on ARM. I put a print statement in Html_tag_open_script and Html_tag_close_script and indeed you see "in Html_tag_open_script" and "Html_tag_close_script" every time the script tag is encountered. Now if I load that signon page I get a blank screen and the messages are -> not <- displayed, and the stop Icon stays permanently on. Looking at the code I find the tag <noscript> <meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url=https://guestportal.burnaby.ca/login_noscript.html"> </noscript> If I delete these lines dillo loads the page normally and every thing is fine. Looking in the table in html.cc I find: const TagInfo Tags[] = ... ... /* noscript 1011 */ ... ... blindly replaceing this line with: {"script", B8(111001),'R',2, Html_tag_open_script,NULL,Html_tag_close_script}, and changing "script" to "noscript" on the assumtion that when dillo hits the tag </noscript> it will then just continue until it hits </noscript>, throw away the data and then continue on, which it apparently does. The question is what to do about it. If it is something that is going to be implemented but nobody has got around to it then I would at least put in a: Html_tag_open_noscript() and a Html_tag_close_noscript() so that web pages don't stall when dillo hits that tag. Thanks for such a fast and small browser. If I could figure out how to change the UI font size so it was big enough for me to see, it would be perfect. Point me toward a link maybe? If this is doable with either the dillorc or the style.css, including a directory with more than just one example of each in the installation, or alternately, on the website, might spare y'all getting emails like this. Also, you might consider one of the ad driven free forum sites, for mutual user support. Hi, any news about TLS support? I'm running Dillo in OpenBSD -current and TLS can't be used: ** ERROR **: dpi.c: can't start dpi daemon Yes, I checked dpi daemon and privileges. I compiled dillo in linux using the flag to enable TLS support, and even there I can't use TLS. Sincerely, Dillo is the best software for www browsing in my opinion, but I can't use them without TLS support [and Vi bindings]. Regards.

Hello everybody I completely happy with dillo just the way it is. I consider it insane to go on the web with javascript enabled and apart from gmail I don't normally have cookies enabled. (how can I differentiate the two users? i.e I have dillo of user 1 on the the screen and a dillo of user 2 also on the screen but the 2 dillo's are identical in appearance). Anyway all of a sudden after using dillo for a year or so I find there is a website that I absolutely must get on but it requires javascript. Well okay I search the web to try to find something, anything that has javascript (I've been searching for day and night for about a week now) and find that there are two things 1) Massive huge bloatware 2) dillo Most things don't build, or don't have any kind of a build system or are for x86 (I'm on arm) so I figure I have to bite the bullet and build firefox. I've been rolling my own system for about 20 years so so I know whats involved but after two config failures and it failing on the gigantic final link after an 8 hour build, I come to the conclusion that lifes not worth it. I don't want that piece of junk on my computer anyway. Links2 at one time had javascript but they abandoned it and elinks has javascript as long as you have seamonkey installed (tarball>190Mbytes) Anybody got any ideas? I did find one thing. "duktape" (http://duktape.org/)which seems to be an exceptionlly fine piece of code which is an embeddable Ecmascript E5/E5.1 engine with a focus on portability and compact footprint. All the examples compiled out of the box and linking it to dillo (duktape.c duktape.h) took a few minutes to change the makefile. The size's of the files are dillo 558,480 dillo 767,456 with ducttape I don't know enough to be able to do anything with it (I work with hardware) but thought someone might be interested as a route to get javascript on dillo. The Dillo user v4hn recently sent a message to this list regarding incorrect image scaling. She or he expresses exactly what I have on my mind: http://lists.dillo.org/pipermail/dillo-dev/2015-July/010596.html I use Dillo 3.0.4 from the Debian stable repositories and I experience the ugly image scaling on many sites, for instance on the two largest news (paper) sites here in Sweden: http://www.dn.se http://www.svd.se I can imagine that most people trying out Dillo will find the stretched-out images very off-putting. Changing the aspect ratio of an image is something you almost never want do do, and changing the aspect ratio of a photo is a big no-no. What's your view on this? Do you use Dillo with CSS disabled? Actually, I think it would be better if image scaling was not implemented at all, rather than broken like this. I'm not familiar with the Dillo code base but I'm a programmer proficient with C and I know some C++, so if I (with some hints) can help I would be more than glad to. Regards, August

Hey everyone, thanks for the great project. :-) It is awesome to have a graphical browser at ones hand that starts up in less than a second and still supports most of the stuff I need. Now, for quite some time I've been using dillo to read news on http://www.heise.de and it has always annoyed me that some of the images on the main page are weirdly scaled. Because these images are of size 160x90 but are scaled to what feels like 98% of the window's width, they are barely recognizable and distracting. Now with the new release out which still shows this behaviour, I thought I'd ask whether someone's got an idea what the problem might be in this case. Because I'm not at all familiar with the dillo source code and/or the resp. web standards I didn't dare to debug this myself up to now. Would be absolutely awesome if someone could have a look at it, v4hn

Hi, I just wanted to share a simple idea I've found useful. Basically, I have two hotkeys to run dillo with different profiles using a trivial wrapper script: #!/bin/sh FLAVOR=$1 ; shift cd $HOME/.dillo cp dillorc.$FLAVOR dillorc dillo "$@" This way, I can have different user-agents per profile, to allow me to get different behaviors. If I want to use google images or get search results on the first page, I ask Dillo to pretend it's Lynx: http_user_agent="Lynx/2.8.8dev.3 libwww-FM/2.14 SSL-MM/1.4.1" Or if I want to do google searches like "5 meters in feet" or "local weather" or "pizza near me", I ask Dillo to pretend it's an old version of Firefox: http_user_agent="Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.6) Gecko/20091201 Firefox/3.5.6" Many sites are picky about the user-agent and won't work right with my usual config, but this way I can get them all to function as desired. :) -- Selene

All right, release is official... Thanks everyone! PS Here are the changes that found their way into ChangeLog: Image buffer/cache improvements. Fix for segfault when there's no dpid and view source is requested. Fix view-source dpi to handle null characters correctly. Made view-source dpi use CSS formatting (it's shorter and cleaner). Crosscompile/buildroot-friendly fltk-config test. Fix X11 icon name. In location bar, tend toward showing beginning of URL instead of end. Handle irix's version of vsnprintf(). INPUT, TEXTAREA placeholder attribute. Better notification when user's domainrc settings block page redirection. Fix bug with font_factor preference and CSS font-size:(larger|smaller). Recognize Menu key in keysrc. HTTPS: change cipher list to "ALL:!aNULL:!eNULL:!LOW:!EXPORT40:!RC4", disable SSL3, disable TLS compression. Avoid requesting background images if an ancestor has display:none. Ignore built-in search url if any are specified in dillorc.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what I write is in my best understanding and with the intention to help my most used browser get even better. The FAQ entry: "Why doesn't Dillo display certain images?" at: http://www.dillo.org/FAQ.html#q28 doesn't show any of: ... ... 'blog.reuters.com' to 'ad.doubleclick.net' ... as the text currently reads, which probably means they have read our FAQ and decided to change those redirections. This is what I actually get when I uncomment the line which is commented the way the built-in default settings are, as it says in the top of ~/.dillo/dillorc to read: show_msg=YES (but it shows the same even if I leave if commented out; it's the default, I retried with it commented out: same) $ Domain: Default accept. dillo_dns_init: Here we go! On another note, I got the new 3.0.5, as it is available in gentoo, but I have the same fonts not found issue which I had previously described (and it's there in yesterday's real output form my system, further above; it was yesterday, the delay being for unrelated reasons), and about which (the fonts not found issue) I will next send another message, with different, appropriate subject, to this list, I hope. I pulled a few minutes ago and built it (8-year-old Intel Core 2 Duo running 64-bit Gentoo linux). It runs OK on CNN.COM and even the NHL mobile site http://m.nhl.com but with most of the tabs not working (Javascript, I assume). However, going to the main NHL site http://www.nhl.com hangs dillo and pegs a CPU. Here's a line of output from "top c", showing 99.2% CPU usage... 19235 waltdnes 20 0 328552 114840 11708 R 99.2 3.7 0:09.89 /home/waltdnes/.local/bin/dillo I have to pop open an xterm window and kill the pid e.g. "kill -3 19235" "dillo -v" shows "Dillo version 3.1-dev" -- Walter Dnes <waltdnes at waltdnes.org>

1. freecode. Between the fact that the site's been in suspended animation for a year and there's been all of this sourceforge unpleasantness just lately, it would be nice not to link to them. 2. In my opinion, it wouldn't do any harm to remove the "News", "Additional Stuff", and "Essential Readings" links, as they have something of an Internet Circa 2002 flavor (in some ways it's a shame to think how pioneering projects like Project Gutenberg lose their preeminence as the pioneer days end, but I suppose that's the way of things). PS Been running on the 3.0.5 branch here, of course, and everything's been fine so far.

It would be nice to put out some new stuff. Primary motivations: 1. placeholder attributes for textarea/input are everywhere, and often they have no other explanation of their purpose. Having to guess "this is probably for search, this is probably for username, this is probably for password" is no fun. 2. I know there are users just trusting dillo's https, so at the least it would be good for their https dpis to have a better cipher list and to disable SSL3 and compression. And then pick out some small, safe fixes.
