Hi Everyone, I heard of dillo recently when installing Gentoo linux. I was browsing their software. I am a Big fan of small efficient tools of most any kind. Dillo has definately made a fan of me. For daily usage I generally use FireFox, but when im setting up a box on very limited resources, generally I will set things up as lightweight as possible. A Big Thank You for Dillo. Technically, I see two ways of making the port: (I'll concentrate on the HTML rendering part because the UI port should be pretty easy in comparison). Rendering port alternatives: 1) Port Dw to FLTK 2) Make a pure FLTK widget tree (convert Dw into FLTK analogs) Maybe the first is easier in the short term, but I'd much prefer the second one because: * Having a custom widget system (Dw) that's embedded into FLTK and that also embedds native FLTK widgets is a very complex scenery that requires too much knowledge to work with (BTW that's what we currently have with Dw/GTK+). * If we can push the positioning/resizing/rendering complexity into FLTK's internal mechanism, it would simplify a lot the task (less complex algorithms, less code, less intertoolkit sync) * If we end we a pure FLTK tree (with its parser), it could be easily reused by the FLTK community, and this also leads to easier maintenance because more developers would be deploying it and helping to improve and fix bugs. One of the main points of Dillo's speed is streamed rendering. That is the ability to show the page as it is being constucted. I assume this is possible with FLTK. The way this works is by letting the parser to build the widget tree as it gets the HTML building blocks. By far, the most complex part is table rendering (because you don't know the table size in advance (i.e. each cell size). This means that cells start to resize and affect their rows and hence the table itself. OTOH, I have hopes in FLTK's internal mechanism. Hi, all! I use proxy server, that requires basic authorization. So, I wrote patch for dillo 0.8.0 that enables this feature. It's available on: http://dem2mpg.by.ru/dillo-0.8.0-proxy-auth.patch.gz Main question I would ask is about password storing. This patch just implements new dillorc option - "http_proxyauth", which is the string like "user:password". But, I guess, it's not correspond to dillo security policy, is it? [Dillo-dev]New to the list -- some patches

Hello everybody, I'm new to the list. I decided to subscribe the list to share some changes I've done to Dillo. I don't know much about programming in GTK, but I know C, so I just modified some functions and took as example existing code. Here are the things I've done so far: - Show a option for "Back" and "Forward" in the pop-up page menu (for history navigation) - Open Links in new window when the link has a target _blank or _new (this include form posts too) - Show in the status bar if a link will open in a new window or same window Who do I sent this patches? I would really love if this gets into the development tree, so I don't have to do it every time a new release comes :P (The web page says that if it's a dillo widget to send it to Sebastian, but otherwise to me. Who is me??? ) The changes I did affected html.c, menu.c, url.c and url.h. Is that part of the "widget"? I plan to improve things in dillo, because I really like it. Right now I'm working in a change to make images fit in the screen (like the IE and Mozilla "zoom" features) when displaying just an image. Ok, bye for now. Hello. The DPIP is here, but it seems that developers(external ones) do not make a big use of it. I have made a litle PI to learn how to use DPIs that can help others. This filter dpi uses tidy to see a bad writen page. If i have write this dpi is only because it was more easy to write in shell script than a download dpi with progres indicator, thah was my other option. I agree that tidy is a big thing but in the server side. First of all a filter.dpi is a executable file that reads dillo comands from stdin an ouputs commands and html to stdout. It can be write in any language that can do this. It is possible to do it in shell programing. This file must be in a directory in /usr/local/lib/dillo/ for a local compiled dillo. When you enter a url dpi:/name/otherthings a file /usr/local/lib/dillo/name/name.filter.dpi is executed and a command <dpi cmd='open_url' url='dpi:/name/otherthings'> is send to it. Then the PI can send commands or html page that dillo show. I have try to send more than a page, with and without the reload command, and use another comands but for the moment this do not work for dpi filters. If you add a filter dpi with dpid running do not forget to restart it or reload DPIs using dpidc. To install this PI create a tidy directory in the dillo DPIs directory and copy it named tidy.filter.dpi You can use it to see some bad writen pages with a url like dpi:/tidy/http://page_that_you_can_view_with The PI do not add index.htm automaticaly so put it in the url. I hope that this help somebody to write some better PIs. Greetings all, I certainly hate to complain after all the good work has been done in this new version of Dillo. I wont complain, I will ask a question: When I open Dillo up, if I try to open my bookmarks I get a hard lockup and have to 'xkill' dillo. Anytime I try bookmarks after that, things work just fine. It is only the initial time when I open Dillo that I have this issue. Anyone else have this issue? Hi All, Has any one in the list got dillo working on Strong-Arm (SA1110), I am getting the error when I run dillo-0.7.3. my board is strong-ARM(SA1110) with 128 Mb RAM . currently I am using toolchain build with gcc-332,glibc-232 and binutils-214 to cross compile the dillo. I build the toolchain with msoft-float enabled in gcc and glibc by applying the patches downloaded from http://www.kegel.com/crosstool/ When I searched for the error I found them in the xc/lib/X11/XErrorDB file ,actually I compiled Xserver(X421src-1.tgz X421src-2.tgz, X421src-3.tgz) as usual i.e make World , make and make install since I could't find a way to enable msoft-float option in Xserver cross.def file. Has any one here got an idea what is going wrong here, is it toolchain problem or Xserver cross-compilation problem. same package(dillo-0.7.3) works fine with my previous toolchain used gcc-323,glibc-232 and binutils-21321 with same Xserver. Hello, since upgrading to 1.2.10 did not help, I pathed manually every file including gtk.h by doing #undef func_data before. - I notice I get 'stcasecmp' implicit declaration warning. - the vsdnprintf was already reported and shouldn't be a matter. at the final linking inside "src" I get errors about duplicate symbols (.strcmp, strcmp, .pov) This time I got the WAIT_ANY error on aix too (I wonder why I didn't get it last time!, maybe because I am using gnu-make ?) and subsituted it with -1. Compile ends. As the last time dillo crashes with an illegal instruction and GDB doesn't return me a useful backtrace. I am quite clueless. Can I compile dillo with debug? -Ric

If you want the plugin, you're told wget is needed. Problems: #1: If you don't have wget, installing won't tell you that you need it. #2: If you don't want to use those DPIs and you don't want wget, you need to install it anyway. #3: Installing is more complicated, because you have to download and upgrade two RPMs. I don't think #1 is really an option, because it means people can install dillo via RPM and not everything will work. I'm inclined to choose #2 over #3, just because of the simplicity. If someone just wants to install Dillo, they already have to look through a list of about 10 different RPMs for the right system, and sometimes people miss the one they need. I occasionally get requests to add an RPM for a system that's already on the list. On the other hand, some people might consider wget to be unnecessary if they're not going to be using those DPIs. Hi, I was updating the help page for dillo, and when making a keyboard shortcuts table, just realized that Alt-B for bookmarks didn't belong anymore so I replaced it with the much more orthogonal Ctrl-B. Just visit the new help page to see. BTW, is anyone using the alternative ";" for bookmarks? I very seldom use it, but rely heavily on "." and ",". Cheers Jorge.-

For instance: distributed design vs monolithic, quick implementation vs a more flexible one, low library dependencies vs linking dillo to a bigger set. Personally, I think that patching dillo with an integrated quick implementation of https (like Indan's) while we develop a more flexible dpi that provides at least the same, can be a good approach. Yes I agree with that reusing dillo's http may come handy. Now, dillo does http 1.0 only so having it done inside a dpi can also bring http 1.1 (as with wget and current https.c). The other interesting point is that the SSL/TLS library spec states that appart from making a socket secure, the details of handling the possible errors should be solved by the client application depending on the protocol and what it is being used for. So having a generic SSL/TLS gateway may look interesting but it can get tricky to implement. For intance: handshake_failure(40), bad_certificate(42), unsupported_certificate(43), certificate_revoked(44), certificate_expired(45), certificate_unknown(46), illegal_parameter(47), unknown_ca(48), are to be handled in different ways regarding what the protected protocol using SSL/TLS is, the transport circumstances and the user's choice. (ah, and all the alerts can have a "level" of fatal or not). With a gateway, having only the option of closing the connection is not enough. Question dialogs can be implemented in the gateway process itself though (a GUI inside the dpi), and you also have to take care of differentiating the protocols. With dpi, the questions and actions can be communicated to dillo with dpip or be made part of the dpi server. It provides more flexibility. Making SSL a part of IO, comes with the burden of having to develop all of this error handling knowledge inside the IO layer (making dillo grow in size and complexity). Looking inside the cache has several interfaces in browsers: * Tabs * Cache list (stack history back/fwd) * History list (full list of the cache) * Predictive URL input * Search dialogs Every one of them have good points and some weaker ones; I assume that's why there're so many mechanisms! :) Given the nature of Dillo, having them all is not a good idea. The point is to find a few that cleanly solve the problem (i.e: enough to solve the problem, and that integrate well with the UI model). I'm not quite sure of what should it be at the moment... For instance, a long time ago we thought with Eric that having a "linear history" menu was a good idea (all the visited URLs sorted by time of visit). That's why we have history.[ch]. It should pop up with the current one highlighted and a right click would make a new popup, this time filtered by the highlighted URL's host (all the visited URLs coming from that host). An interesting idea that has been waiting for a proper implementation. It has the plus of allowing access to the whole list of visited URLs, but may start to get clumsy as the URL list grows. At this point, I believe the best interface is a search dialog: Search cache: In Url : _______ In Title : _______ [Search] [Clear] [Cancel] It can be hooked to a right click menu on the (Web) Search icon. That would also allow to add other search URLs as dictionaries, packages or whatever, configurable from dillorc. One feature of the cache search would be to return the linear history when the input camps are empty. Hello, with the latest configure patches to correctly link, the solaris version of dillo finishes build and seems to work pretty as much as 0.7.3 did. The problems I currently encounter are: - color problems. I have 256 colors. If the colors are already reserved say from Netscape or another applicaiton, images (but only those) are displayed with mangled colors, they don't get remapped to the neares color available. If the full palette is available, images are dithered as expected. - authenticaiton problem with www.blender.org to the forums. I insert my data, login.. I get a page with a meta-refresh which should me login, Dillo gives me the link, I follow it and I result not logged in. The specs for "wait any" on solaris are the following: If pid is equal to (pid_t)-1, status is requested for any child process. I think so that a cast of -1 to the correct type wouldn't hurt. Riccardo PS: I try building and isntalling glib/gtk 1.2.10 instead of the current 1.2.9 on AIX. One never knows, it could help.

Hello, I'd like to see dillo reporting the OS in the User-agent, this can be interesting for statistics (and a reason ov proudness for lesser-known platforms, heh). Like netscape on my sun box reports: User-Agent: Mozilla/4.79 [en] (X11; U; SunOS 5.6 sun4u) while dillo only: User-Agent: Dillo/0.8.0-pre Since I write a small webserver with its log-analyzer I noticed this. Btw, some advertising... it is a small webserver, quite portable across unix and it weigths around 30k depending on the options and on the platform. It makes a nice match with dillo! With both you can have fun of the www on a 25Mhz computer again :) http://sourceforge.net/projects/pserv/ The matched log-analywer "p-reporter" reports dillo as a rocgnized web-browser :) -Ric

Hello, I compiled dillo 0.80 Jan-30 tarball after having applied the patches by Andreas (namely undefining func_data before ever gtk.h include) % grep func_data * browser.h:#undef func_data dns.h:#undef func_data web.h:#undef func_data The compilation ends (although I saw some wanrings about vsnprintf implicitly declared...
