Hello ! I found another bug or problem in dillo : It doesn't use all the space provided ! For example, let's take a 320x240 screen/window (in full screen mode). If your content takes more than 305-310 pixels wide, the scrollbars are appearing, while they only should appear if your content is larger than "window size less borders", like 316... [Dillo-dev]Dillo centering elements

Hello ! I don't know if I didn't find which HTML tags were supported by dillo, or if it is a dillo bug or limitation, but I am totally unable to make dillo center something on the screen. I want to center an image, but centering the table containing the image or centering the contents in the table cell don't work. And I don't even speak about vertical centering. I even tryed with onepixel images, streched with <img width="20"> for example. Doesn't see to work either. Therefore my question is : How to achieve that (having dillo centering an image). Hi there, I'm in Europe these days! At this time FOSDEM 2005 is history, and Dillo was there (embedded track). We had a lot of work with Sebastian and presented Dillo succesfully! The conference was informative and entertaining so people liked it very much. Now I'm in Dortmund and we're working hard with Sebastian on a CVS based prototype with the new Abstraction Layer, so don't expect much emails these days. All the pending work is stalled as we're 100% on this, so patches, extensions, bug-fixes etc will have to wait. Eventually we will come with a renewed Dillo design that provides for stronger basis for the future (think of FLTK, CSS, utf8, text antialiasing, better rendering, etc). -- Cheers Jorge.-

It would be nice if we lived in a world without MSIE (Microsoft Internet Explorer) In particular, it would be nice if we lived in a world without MSIE's broken CSS. For example, there is a wonderful CSS attribute, called max-width, that lets a user specify the maximum width for a given element. Should the user have a narrow window (can you say 640x480), the element in question will just become narrower to fit this window. However, MSIE does not have support for this attribute. This is a feature that only 10% of the browsing population can make use of. The workaround looks like this: <table><tr> <td width=700> The content of a web site. </td></tr></table> The way all the mainstream browsers (MSIE, Opera, Konqueror/Safari, and all the Gecko browsers) handle this is as follows: * They consider the <td width=123> to be a suggestion. This is the maximum possible width for the element in question, as long as the table cell does not have any single elements (such as very long words) that are wider. * If the browser window (viewport) is wide enough to fit this element with the suggested width, the width is unchanged. * If the browser window is not wide enough to fit this element, the table cell will be made narrower to accomodate the narrow browser window. Dillo, however, does not support this /de facto/ standard. The following patch gives Dillo support for this standard. This patch doesn't do the rendering the correct way (which is to make sure all such TDs are not wider than the browser viewport window, barring long table elements), but it does make sure that a single table cell will not be wider than the Dillo browser window. Hello, To compile Dillo-0.8.4 with Sun C compiler under Solaris 9, I had to apply the attached patch. It appears that Dillo code uses some GCC features that are not in the C language specifications. With my correction, it compiles and seems to work, but there are still many warnings. I haven't tested my patch with GCC or under another OS. good day! i would like to ask for your help. i am a computer science student and currently, doing my thesis. i, together with my group mates is implementing a system in linux that enables to add plug-ins (a plug-in can be an application or a functionality of the system) using shared objects. If we are to add, for example, an existing application in our system it has to be in the .so form. Dillo is one of the examples we considered to add in our system. It is also one way of testing if the plug-in function we are implementing really works. Regarding the dillo browser, we tried to make it as a shared object file using the command line "gcc -g -shared -Wl,-soname,dillo.so.0 \-o dillo.so dillo.o -lc" the problem is there are certain methods that cannot be recognized when we run the shared object that is produced using our system. those methods are undefined according to the system. We do not know if the paths of the libraries used by dillo have something to do with the error... or something else. we would like to ask if our way of making a shared object file is correct or applicable to dillo. if not, can u tell us how to make it as a shared object file - the proper way of making a shared object file. Hi First, thanks to all for a great browser! The following applies to dillo-0.8.4 on linux with glibc2. I tried to test the https plugin by removing line 56 from dpi/https.c, as suggested. However, the linker complained about unresolved symbols when I recompiled. I solved that problem by changing the order of LIBSSL_LIBS in configure.in to "-lssl -lcrypto". Dillo then recompiled fine, however I still get the default message about the prototype plugin for https being disabled. Is there something else I should do. Regards, Peter

Hi there, Good news here! After a lot of careful diligencies and a lot of work, it is official now. Dillo will be presented at FOSDEM 2005 (Feb 26, 27). I'll go to Belgium and give a conference at FOSDEM's embedded track. This is very good news for the project because some contacts can be made with a view to fund the future of the project, Dillo will gain more exposure in Europe, and because I'll also meet with Sebastian in Germany and we'll work together on some pending issues and the future of Dillo. This effort has brought a pile of work on my side, and given its importance, I assigned top priority to it and that's the reason for me being silent on the list in the past weeks. I'll try to briefly answer some pending threads, but as I'm not at home now and having still much to do (prepare the conference, trip, lots of emails, schedule, expenditures, etc.), please don't expect much feedback from me these days. For those of you living in Europe, and that think it may be interesting to meet, or have a contact opportunity in your country that may thrive, please let me know. This is a very long distance trip to make to miss the opportunity of taking chances. Over the weekend I managed to get User-Mode Linux running again (under an old Red Hat 7.3 partition that I hadn't gotten around to deleting), so I was able to fill in RPMs for the rest of the releases I had used for Dillo 0.8.3. I also installed Mandrake 10.1, and was able to add an RPM for that release. I installed SuSE 9.2, though the combination of slow hardware, average DSL, slow mirror, the occasional missing file on the mirror and little free time to work with meant that it took several days to get a working install. Last night I finally built Dillo on it, but there's a font problem. When I get a chance I'll try installing some other GTK-1.2 apps and see if it's just a system config problem, and if it is, I'll post the RPM. At that point I'll have RPMs for current releases of Fedora Core, Mandrake, and SuSE, and a number of older releases. Where are we at and where are we going with the issue of https, ssl and certificates? I usually run with https enabled and find it is a VERY useful adjunct to the main program - it has quirky behaviour on sites such as playstation2-linux (where the answer is to log in via ssl then leave ssl), but at least it enables posting there. Other sites now accessible include amazon.co.uk and groups.yahoo.com - a significant gain. But the situation over certificates appears confusing: - as I (cursorily) read the code, it uses standard SSL functions to parse entries in the .dillo/certs directory. I have a block of certificates stolen from another browser but they don't seem to change the need to force by the 'remote certificate cannot be verified20' messages. (Are these imported certs in a non-standard format perhaps?) And the code also appears to have a function to store accepted certificates, but I've never been aware of this happening. The code is reaching a level of maturity and acceptance where these remaining blemishes are puzzling 'us users'. Bob -- robert w hall

Before everyone starts saying "That's stupid, Gtk2 is so bloated and slow, why would you want to do that?", let me say that right now I'm using the Gtk2 port of Dillo 0.6.6, which as you all know is ancient and renders html badly compared to newer versions of Dillo, but it's still the best and fastest browser I can get to work on GPE. So periodically I'll be asking "What does this thing do?"-type questions on this list as I try to make current Dillo compile and run with Gtk2. For now I just want to request that all the deprecated (GtkArgSetFunc) NULL and (GtkArgGetFunc) NULL casts be removed and changed to simply NULL as recommended here: http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.2/gtk/gtk-changes-1-2.html This has nothing to do with Gtk2, in fact eventually I should change all the GtkObject stuff to GObject stuff anyway, but when I first blindly tried to make it compile that was the error that came up the most, and it can and should be changed upstream. Relative to other browsers, why can dillo be small and fast? Can anybody tell me the reason from the viewpoint of design and implementation. The code of dillo is fewer than other larger desktop browser. But fewer code means fewer functions. How to keep balance between the two conflicts? Thank you!

hello all: it seems that dillo doesn't use cache replace algorithms. it simply inserts new entry into the hash table. then if the program runs for a long time, it will use more and more memories. doesn't it?

In my opinion, the CCC is a dynamic doubly linked list with function pointers. And all the CCC functions in the chain are called serially. How does CCC handle the parallelism of IO? And Why do you consider it as "pseudo-thread"? I want to dive in it and thanks for reply.

I was reading through some of the code and noticed this code segment in a_Http_init() (file: src/IO/http.c, line 82): gchar *env_proxy = getenv("http_proxy"); if (env_proxy && strlen(env_proxy)) HTTP_Proxy = a_Url_new(env_proxy, NULL, 0, 0, 0); if (!HTTP_Proxy && prefs.http_proxy) HTTP_Proxy = a_Url_dup(prefs.http_proxy); It appears to me that this will take first an HTTP proxy from the user's environment. Then, if one is defined in the Dillo preferences, use it to override the one from the environment. I think that the order of the tests should be reversed. The reason is that every *nix program I can think of will place precedence on settings from the environment *over* those in the configuration files. The behavior above would be confusing to an experienced *nix user. -Roberto Sanchez

Hi, I just finished packing the tarball for dillo-0.8.4-rc1. Please excuse me for the delay, but I received a security notice that needed to be addressed (CAN-2005-0012), and I discovered a minor bug with the HEAD tag implicit-close handling code. All of this is fixed in the tarball now, plus a few comments. Please grab it ASAP, test it throughly and report your findings (finding no problems is a good sign ;). Some emphasis should be put on the newest file server dpi and on compiling on 64 bit machines. Enjoy! -- Cheers Jorge.-

Hi there! Please receive my best wishes for this new year. Our project has kept its advancing pace and we're very close to dillo-0.8.4-rc1. There's still a DwStyle leak to investigate and that's it. If it takes more than two days more, I'll pack rc1 anyway to start the testing cycle. This should be a short stage because this is mainly a bugfix release and it has proven very stable as from CVS. The idea is to have 0.8.4 before January 15. Althoug the mailing list has been a bit quiet, there's been good work going on in the background, with some new developers and several patches! (the CVS shows it). If destiny smiles, I could be on FOSDEM 2005 presenting Dillo on the embedded track and making contacts with a view to find a way to finally get a core team working full-time on it, thus boosting the development pace. Hi Dieter, I just finished the first prototype for the two-threads-only file server dpi. I've had this in mind for sometime because the old one, despite solving a deadlock race, used too much threads when the page requested too much different files (one per file). This can cause some problems on restricted environments as PDAs or uclibc for instance. I hope this solves the issues you told me on your LP64 machine. Ah, the CVS also has a lot more fixes of -Wconversion warnings. Urbi et orbi: please test these new dpis because the current CVS is very close to becoming dillo 0.8.4! Hello. I'd like to make the page increment configurable. I liked the old half-page behavior, and would like to be able to use that instead of the current "96% of the viewport" method. However, I don't really know where to start, or how to hook into dillo's configuration system. Ideally, I'd like to set values for how much to scroll on each type of scroll event: PgUp/Dn, Space/BkSpace, arrows, and the mouse wheel. (96%, 50%, 1 line, and 2 lines, respectively) I've found the code which configures one of these events, thanks to a snippet early on this list ("0.96 * allocation->height"), but don't know where/how to handle the others. So, any hints? Or, alternately, does anyone with more of a clue feel like adding this? -- Scott

I haven't received mailing list for a long time. Does it still work? By the way, can anyone tell me that how the html is rendered? I know the html text can be parsed into some data structures and then these data structures are delivered to renderer. Another way is to render one object immediately after it is created. Which method does dillo apply? If it uses the first methond, what are the corresponding data structures that keep information of the html tags. If uses the second one, what event triggers the renderer? And how the objects are rendered? If anyone can send me some documents about those subjects, I will be very grateful. Thank you very much!
