Hi. This is how dillo already handles downloads with wget (though i'm unfamiliar with the new download dpi). So, a more practical thing to do would be to allow the download program to be specified. Just my two cents. -Jeff

DOCTYPE and other fixes

Hi there, I just commited DOCTYPE sniffing (for the sake of bug-meter error-message accuracy). This is still in state of flux, but at least now the unescaped & inside URIs error messages that crowded the bug meter (aka. unrecognized entities) only appear for HTML4.01 and XHTML. The same code can serve for better checking XHTML (Matthias: this is what we talked about in Germany). In a nutshell, one of the nasty effects of SGML and XML is that formerly perfect URI-values now need to escape '&' as '&' (inside atrribute values). This breaks HTML compliance for lots of sites with script generated URL refrences. Webmasters usually workaround this by omitting DOCTYPE so it's parsed as in the old days. There's also an important fix in the new tag parser of dpip. Has anyone more feedback with the new FLTK2 GUI downloads dpi? -- Cheers Jorge.-

Hi everyone, hola Jorge, I tried the new CVS version of dillo with the DOCTYPE patch from Jorge. It works good with HTMP 4.01 and XHTML 1.0 but do not recognize XHTML 1.1. Hi, I don't believe that dillo supports javascript and ever will. The author seems to believe that a browser should be as stripped down and non-functional as possible or as bloated as possible (such as mozilla or firefox), with nothing in between. I would like that something in between. I think a lot of us on this mailing list (me at least) would be very appreciative if you could make support for it. You may consider teaming up with http://teki.jpn.ph/pc/software/index-e.shtml which provides unofficial versions of dillo with additions. Be forewarned that dillo is going to change to fltk so you may want to wait for that to happen first. There is no point in wasting time and creating something that will go away. Apparently, two copies with fltk exist, but have never been released. They are supposed to be released in the next version. Hi there, here are some of my thoughts of new FLTK downloads.dpi iterface: 1. Because I use the wmii (www.wmii.de) - it's tabbed wm, like ratpoison and unlike KDE - I am very glad when no extra windows pops up from some app. For me it would be nice if the download manager opens in some dillo's tab window and not separate. 2. There are some curves on right and bottom side, they look ugly and useles. There should be some decent separator between two downloads. I don't like the shadow under the "file" field. It will be nice if the progres bar will be rightmost. 3. When the download is finished, on the button is 'done' text. It's nice to know that the download is done but when I click it cleans it, so we should rename 'done' -> 'clean'. 4. Buttons: Abort: stop and delete unfinished file Pause/Resume: SIGTERM (or SIGSTOP) wget/(SIGCONT) wget -c %f But I guess well polished download manager isn't necessary now, it's useful only for normal users. Hello Thanks for the quick response. Most probably. Disable javascript in Firefox and try to log in. > That's a good starting point. Yes I tried that with firefox and JS disabled. Gmail is smart enough to send you a version of the HTML page that does not require JS and you can log in. So JS is probably not the issue why I cannot login with dillo. I had some more time yesterday to look into the problem. It seems for whatever reason, dillo is not sending the form's POST HTTP request when I click on the "Sign In" button of the login form. I'll look into the problem. If it is truly a bug I'll let you guys know. Good. Is JS your expertise area? Not exactly. I am working of some other project right now, but later I may have the necessary time to devote in learning. I'll keep the JS issue in the back of my mind. Best regards Richard Ta-Min

Current color control??

I had my newsreader search 'color', but all I found was an exchange from 2003, and I doubt that's current. I have Dillo set as my default browser (under Fedora Core 4); every once in a while I get some site that's unreadable, because the text and background are too near the same color. My next move is to try the same URL in another browser; and that usually solves it. Hello, I have compiled and installed Dillo 0.8.5 and enabled the https DPI. I am trying to use Dillo to log in to gmail. I have made sure that cookies are enabled for .gmail.com. I am able to get the gmail login page which is served through https but I cannot log in to my account. After clicking on the "Sign In" button and accepting all the certificate warnings messages, I am not redirected to my mailbox and I am stuck on the gmail login page. Does dillo support javascript ? and is that the reason why I cannot login to gmail ? If javascript is the stopper that prevents dillo from being used on gmail, hotmail or yahoo etc... then I am willing to devote some time to get something like SpiderMonkey or some other JS engine to work with Dillo. I was running dillo from the command line and below is the output I got from the console. Notice that dillo seems to die in the https.filter.dpi. Size of the new downloads.dpi

Hi dillo developers, I just compiled the CVS version of dillo (0.86-pre) with the FLTK based downloads.dpi. I see it's statically linked against FLTK, but it's now 450 KiB (here). I think it's quite big. When the whole dillo will be FLTK based, will it be staticaly linked too? Or dynamically, like now with the GTK+ 1.2? Thank you all for great work you do. Michal Nowak

Hi there, Let's start 2006 with a nice addition to Dillo. Here's a HOWTO fo the FLTK2-based GUI-dpi for downloads: * Get the latest CVS (it has dpi/downloads.cc) * Get http://www.dillo.org/test/dl_GUI.diff cd dillo; patch -p1 < dl_GUI.diff * Go to http://www.fltk.org/software.php and get the "fltk-2.0.x-r4721.tar.bz2" tarball (or SVN at your option). __you need FLTK 2.0.x, FLTK 1.1.x won't work___ * Install FLTK2 * Build Dillo, install & enjoy! Note to packagers: Don't worry about FLTK2. The resulting dpi binary is statically linked so there're no new dependencies for a package that ships the new GUI-dpi for downloads, and as you'll soon understand, this new dpi is the recommended choice! :-) The idea is to ship this GUI-dpi when Dillo-0.8.6 is released. All: Please test it and let me know to the list you succeeded in the installation process (just to be sure I didn't forget a step in the above instructions). Feedback is welcomed. Tips: The GUI is compact, but has plenty of information. Look at the tooltips (place the mouse cursor over the widgets wait and see; e.g. the filename widget shows the wget log). Hi! I've been using dillo a bit since the i18n patch became usable, and found that there was one crucial URI scheme missing: "data:", defined in RFC 2397. I used the simple filter DPI model and had something working fairly quickly (thank you all for making that easy!) This works by adding a filter for dpi:/dataurl/... and rewriting data:... to use it, in a fashion similar to the one used by the https filter. The data: URI scheme allows image data (and other linked resources) to be embedded in a web page, so (for example) your DPIs can now trivially embed images, even dynamically-generated ones. It is also supported by the Mozilla family (it's used heavily in GreaseMonkey plugins) and in Konqueror and Safari. 6 Years: some goodies and expecting more!

Hi there, Somewhere this December, Dillo turned 6 years old. As sort of a present to it I'll be uploading the FLTK2-based GUI downloads plugin I've been working on, for everyone to try, and a bunch of related bug fixes too (this almost makes it for 0.8.6 release). Stay tuned. :) As you know since back from France I've been working on the funding side, and coding on the free timeslices. I'm expecting good news in mid January. tables break forms??

Hello all. Please forgive me if this has already been discussed at length, I check the last 2months of archives and the bug track and didn't find any mention, but I might've just over-looked it. In dillo 0.8.3 there is no problem when a form begins inside a table but ends outside of it, but when my dillo 0.8.5 sees a the table close, it forces the form closed too and truncates (and consequently discards) the rest of the form. Here is an example (I think this a culprit too [http://lists.auriga.wearlab.de/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/dillo-dev] <HTML> <table><form method="post" action="null"> <input type="text" name="proper"><br> </table>  <input type="text" name="cut_off"> </form></HTML> I don't know if this is the proper diagnosis, a known issue, or uncompliant HTML, just wondering if others have been having problems with it. PS: what about calling an executable on "View Source"? vim colors are pretty.

Hi all! Dillo 0.8.5 doesn't compile "out-of-the-box" with Compaq's C Compiler on FreeBSD/Alpha. The Dillo source code seems to be quite portable and clean as it is, so only very minor changes were necessary to make it build and run. It's probably a very uncommon compiler scenario, but I thought I'd still share this with the list. Perhaps it is of interest to someone. 1. src/dw_embed_gtk.h, line 27: /*gboolean child_size_request_lock*/; CCC doesn't like the semi-colon being outside the comment. Moving it inside allows the compilation to continue. 2. Lines 379-380 in src/dw_widget.h do not work with CCC. #define a_Dw_iterator_unhighlight(it, l) ((it) ? \ (it)->highlight(it, -1, -1, l) : FALSE) highlight() seems to return a void, which is not the same type as FALSE. I am not sure what the correct solution would be, but changing line 380 into the following will at least allow the compilation continue: ((it)->highlight(it, -1, -1, l), TRUE) : FALSE) 3. Line 134 in src/html.c. CCC says 'The static declaration of "Tags" is a tentative definition and specifies an incomplete type. (incompstat)' Removing the 'static' so that the line reads just const TagInfo Tags[]; allows the compilation to continue. (Note that the actual definition of static const TagInfo Tags further down in html.c does _not_ need to be changed!) So far so good. With these modifications, LIBPTHREAD_LIBS="-lc_r" CC=ccc CFLAGS="-mcpu=pca56 -fast -O4 -g3" ./configure; make builds everything. However, Dillo crashes when run. I spent some time trying to track down what causes this, and it seems to be the debug macros. CCC gives about a million warnings about these, looking like this: cc: Warning: file.c, line 42: This parameter is not preceded by a comma. (missingcomma) #define _MSG(fmt...) ----------------^ cc: Warning: file.c, line 905: Too few actual parameters in the invocation of the macro "MSG". (toofewactuals) MSG("file.dpi:: Failed to parse 'url'\n"); and so on. Apparently, either CCC is flawed in this regard, or the MSG macros were not written cleanly enough. Modifying src/msg.h and src/debug.h so that all MSG and DEBUG_MSG macros simply become empty statements, also changing the BW_MSG define in src/IO/http.c into an empty definition "avoids" the problem, Dillo seems to run fine, but of course there will be no debug output. :-/ The compiler version I used was "V6.4-005 on Linux 2.4.2 alpha", and the host OS was FreeBSD/Alpha 4.9. Perhaps some of these modifications could apply to the current CVS tree as well, and not just 0.8.5, but I haven't had time to check. Anders

Hello. First of all I want to thank everybody working on dillo web browser, i really like it. Now my question. I remeber having tabbed browsing and frame support within dillo 0.85 from the gentoo ebuild. Now i'm trying 0.86pre from cvs and can't find any option for this. Maybe i'm to blind to find it in the INSTALL or ./configure --help. Is there any possibility to use tabbed browsing and frame support within dillo 0.8.6pre. Thank you and best regards Hans

I felt Dillo is good for KIOSK use, but without animated gif, common web business model, in short, advertising, does not work. Nothing works without a business model, right? 3. FLTK and UTF-8 support. Among the stuff already on your wishlist, this is the most desired for me. 4. It is very difficult issue that you should add javascript or not. Cross Compiling Dillo Error Messages

Hi Guys, Im planning to cross compile dillo to my target FR-V board. I already cross compiled gtk+-2.2.4 and already tested the sample program to the target. Currently, Im starting to cross compile dillo-0.8.5-i18n-misc-20050719. This is the patch version of dillo to display japanese characters. When Im trying to configure the dillo for cross compilation, It tries to find the gtk-config and glib-config from my target bin directory which is not found. Im trying to copy the said files from my host bin to my target bin and edit the target location of the scripts to my target. The configure options i initially tried is this: ./configure --prefix=/opt/gtk --host=frv-linux-gnu --build=i686-pc-linux-gnu --with-jpeg-lib=/opt/gtk/lib --with-jpeg-inc=/opt/gtk/include --with-glib-prefix=/opt/gtk --with-glib-exec-prefix=/opt/gtk --with-gtk-prefix=/opt/gtk --with-gtk-exec-prefix=/opt/gtk LIBZ_LIBS=/opt/gtk/lib LIBJPEG_LIBS=-L/opt/gtk/lib --without-libintl-prefix --without-libiconv-prefix The cross configure now detects it and successfully surpass the configure command. However, it does not detects the png and jpeg which is I successfully cross compiled already. when Im trying to issue a make command, it seems that it does not find gtk.h. When I try to issue a configure like this: ./configure --prefix=/opt/gtk --host=frv-linux-gnu --build=i686-pc-linux-gnu --with-jpeg-lib=/opt/gtk/lib --with-jpeg-inc=/opt/gtk/include --with-glib-prefix=/opt/gtk --with-glib-exec-prefix=/opt/gtk --with-gtk-prefix=/opt/gtk --with-gtk-exec-prefix=/opt/gtk LIBZ_LIBS=/opt/gtk/lib LIBJPEG_LIBS=-L/opt/gtk/lib --without-libintl-prefix --without-libiconv-prefix LDFLAGS=-L/opt/gtk/lib CPPFLAGS=-I/opt/gtk/include It finds my gtk.h and the said error on gtk.h disappear. i was surprised when i figured out that the current dillo code doesn't support any sort of "no cache" or "expires" facility. it seems that this was done in 2003, in a patch referenced here: http://lists.auriga.wearlab.de/pipermail/dillo-dev/2003-August/001039.html i tried applying it, and resolving the (many) differences myself, but i seem to have botched it, because now some of my pages don't display at all. :-) is there a more current version of this patch around? i think it's important functionality... paul =--------------------- paul fox, pgf(a)foxharp.boston.ma.us (arlington, ma, where it's 77.5 degrees)

But if you do: dillo www.coasttocoastam.com/art_bell_cam.html There it is! A simple end-run around javascript that, it seems to me, could be built into Dillo without much problem. As for the other eye-candy bullshit done with javascripts, I couldn't care less. I don't want non-open-source software on my computer, and it is my understanding that java is not open-source. Tom

Greetings, Could anyone tell me why this page is readable with W3m but not with Dillo 0.8.0? http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/ A no-java warning appears in both browsers, but w3m displays all the text and Dillo doesn't. dillo and xhtml

Hi, in keeping with the latest and greatest, I was playing around with xhtml. Now the standard seems to be that xhtml should be send es application/xhtml+xml in the first place (there's a note about it somewhere). Or, if that is not possible, application/xml, text/xml, etc. Never as text/html (because this mimetype is not registered for this content). However, dillo doesn't recognize this mimetype and always tries to save an application/xhtml+xml file, though it can always be rendered as html. The current workaround for dillo and other browsers is just send text/html but since standards compliance is very important for dillo I would suggest treating application/xhtml+xml as though it was text/html for the time being. (or at least until the CSS support is complete). Thoughts? Ideas? Wim

Funding activities

Hi there, After coming back from LSM 2005, I've devoted 100% of my time to the funding effort. I know I said that most probably after the LSM a FLTK-based prototype would be online, but at that time we were _very_ advanced to get the core team to work full time on dillo. It failed almost at signing the contracts. I was waiting for this to happen to tell the list the good news. BTW, most of the new dpi stuff (not yet uploaded) was a work for this company. I see no point in spending my last $$ in developing just to tell you a have to leave in a couple of months, so funding has acquired the first priority. For those of you that are curious, the donations link has raised EUR 500 in all its lifespan (2 years or less IIRC). Almost surely, the next release will be GTK-based, and I'll code only when I find a timespan in my fund-related activities. The FLTK port went great while we were working on full steam with Sebastian in Germany, now it's stalled. If funding succeeds, we'll be able to work on it again, and you'll surely enjoy the new Dillo much more than the current one! -- Cheers Jorge.-

It would be nice if downloading images was optional, but I've been reading through the docs and haven't found a way. Perhaps a configuration item in dillorc that would tell Dillo to first download just the HTML source, render the text, and then, if you chose to reload it, bring down the images too....?? If Dillo could do that, and be used to convert HTML to plain text, I could ditch w3m! Thanks, Tom

cookies dpi patch is on CVS now

Hi there, After a more in depth review, the patch for the cookies dpi was uploaded to the CVS. It has some minor modifications and it's ready for testing! Cookies now hare handled by a dpi (dillo plugin), so there's no more restriction of only one instance of Dillo having cookies enabled. Every single dillo sees cookies.dpi as the "cookies server" so there's no problem, and dillo's core gets smaller. After 'make", remember to "dpidc stop" and to 'make install' to get the cookies dpi installed. If you find some bugs, please report back here to Diego or me. Diego: I'll try to catch up with the thread about the MIME dpi. As Matthias Franz pointed out, I'm interested on it. The main point is to make it use the dpi/dpip framework instead of a custom approach. --More on this soon. I'm also working on a new dpip library, so it may be merged in the future (don't worry, that's my work and it makes things easier, not harder). Porting the cookies dpi to it should be no more than one day, and I have already every other dpi working on it on a custom tree... -- Cheers Jorge.-
