Hello dillo-dev mailing list, i was able to successfully import into sylpheed what appears to be a complete mbox of the old original dillo.org mailing list and the new mailman3.com mailing list - (thank you very much for this work and setting up the new mailman3.com mailing list) i have reposted my 5/11/24 post to the old (dead) dillo.org mailing list to this list i am glad to see dillo being reborn - it is my main http/https browser (i use w3m and curl and seamonkey as needed) --- To: dillo-dev(a)dillo.org Subject: dillo-3.1.0 Date: Sat, 11 May 2024 16:00:22 -0600 Hi i just saw this on slashdot https://tech.slashdot.org/story/24/05/11/1348216/lightweight-dillo-browser-… and downloaded dillo-3.1.0.tar.bz2 from (https://github.com/dillo-browser/dillo/releases/download/v3.1.0/dillo-3.1.0…) configure --enable-ssl --disable-ipv6 (--enable-ssl from dillo-3.0.5 is deprecated in dillo-3.1.0) ( checking FLTK 1.3... yes checking for libpng version... 1.6.37 configure: Using OpenSSL as TLS library. checking for pthread_create in -lpthread... yes make good make install didn't do but because of many known questions of github vulnerability problems (i no longer get any source from github - except this one time) i didn't install it or run it until i can go over the code myself or someone also does a security check of the source code (added 5/27/24 this is only a reflection on the github problems and not on anyone coding dillo) i have done my own dillo-3.1 from dillo-3.0.5 i will also wait to test the configure option --enable-html-tests Enable HTML tests (requires xvfb, xwd and imagemagick)

problem with compressed or encrypted url

Hi someone please tell me what is wrong when i do dillo https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/configure-ssh-2fa#2-installing-and-configuring… it seems to be encrypted or compressed? i can get it with curl okay and then dillo on the resulting html is good

unwanted change in behavior of Dillo Download dialog

after saving a number of html from a duck search (save link as) - clicking on done on Dillo Download dialog closes All the downloads not just the one the done was clicked on this is very inconvenient as any downloads that were aborted can no longer be identified

[PATCH] User defined new tab page

Hi list, Here is a patch to add a new tab page to dillo. You can define any url in dillorc preference 'new_tab_page', and it will be automatically opened in new tabs. Setting the value "about:blank" will retain the default blank page behavior. I tried to make it work with an empty value of "", but for some reason dillo prepends 'http:' to the value. Hopefully this won't be a problem, because now the about:blank is pre-selected and you can just start typing over it. If there is a better way to do this, I'm open to suggestions. "Layout::resizeIdle calls" messages ignore show_msg=NO

With Dillo 3.1.0-rc1 (and the current Git repo master branch), these messages are printed to stdout when pages load even with show_msg=NO in dillorc: ... Layout::resizeIdle calls = 578 Layout::resizeIdle calls = 579 Layout::resizeIdle calls = 580 Layout::resizeIdle calls = 581 Layout::resizeIdle calls = 582 Layout::resizeIdle calls = 583 ... I see that they come from a printf call in dw/layout.cc, line 876. Dillo 3.0.5 doesn't output such messages, and they are a minor inconvenience when starting dillo from a terminal window, so it would be nice if they obeyed the show_msg setting in dillorc when Dillo 3.1.0 is released.

Another page rendering issue that's introduced after the 3.0.5 release, this time affecting my own website. URL: http://www.ombertech.com/ CSS: enabled or disabled Summary: <td> width attributes ignored. 3.0.5: Heading table at the top of the page displays correctly scaled with links in the middle formatted in a horizontal row if they all fit in 1/3rd of the browser window's width. 3.1.0-rc1: The "width" attributes of the <td> elements are ignored and the links in the middle are thereby squashed into a vertical row. Further testing with modified versions of the page shows that this table cell width problem is only present if the width attribute in the <td> elements is a percentage and the <table> element also has a width attribute set as a percentage, then the <td> width attributes get ignored. If either (or both) table or td width is in pixels, the problem isn't present, only when table and td width are both specified as percentages. So far as I can tell setting width in <table> and <td> elements as a percentage is valid for HTML 4.01 Transitional, and other browsers (Links, Firefox) render the table correctly.

Dillo not rendering HTML with comments before <!DOCTYPE>

This problem was present in 3.0.5 as well as in 3.1.0-rc1. URL: http://www.lemis.com/ CSS: enabled or disabled Summary: Won't render HTML with comments before <!DOCTYPE>. Pages on this website aren't rendered, just displayed as source code. Although they are XHTML, this doesn't appear to be due to this bug: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1036382 If I save the file as lemis.xhtml and remove the two comment lines before the <!DOCTYPE> declaration, then it renders when I load it with file:// or http://, otherwise it doesn't. My reading is that comments there are valid for HTML 4 (which is declared in the page's <!DOCTYPE>) since the standard says: White space (spaces, newlines, tabs, and comments) may appear before or after each section. https://www.w3.org/TR/html401/struct/global.html#h-7.1

Links closed empty due to <a> containing <div>

I use Dillo 3.0.5 (with SNI support added to the HTTPS plug-in) for the majority of my web browsing, so it's great to see some movement towards the next version. Testing 3.1.0-rc1 I still notice some HTML rendering regressions and other bugs which I'll report in this and the following emails. I don't see any of these the GitHub Issues section, but I won't post them there because I hate the GitHub website - it doesn't work in my favourite web browser for one thing! Other people are welcome to, though I'll only participate in discussion here. URL: http://my-addr.com/ CSS: enabled or disabled Summary: Links closed empty due to <a> containing <div>. 3.0.5: All links on page are usable and <a> elements don't have errors listed in the bug window. 3.1.0-rc1: Links below the horizontal heading bar at the top of the page aren't usable, they're just shown as plain text. The Bug window shows all of these <a> elements are closed when a <div> element is found inside them, leaving no text present inside the link. I see that <div> isn't allowed inside <a> according to the standard, but other browsers (Links and Firefox) still render this website's links in a functional way and it's a pretty inconvenient breakage.

New feature idea: 'Open link with...' item

Another feature which could be useful is an 'Open link with...' item. An item in the link menu which runs a command with the link as an argument. For example: Open link with... mpv (open a media stream or yt link) wget (save link/custom download) etc... Commands could be defined in dillorc, or maybe a separate text file is better (like bm.txt)? Any interest in this? Not sure how far I would get, it's probably a bit more complicated than my previous ideas.

Regarding your patch, I find that behavior unintuitive :-) But we shouldn't expect people to agree on those, so I think this should be implemented as a configuration option. Hi, I added the Doxygen documentation in the main website, with the Doxygen Awesome theme: https://dillo-browser.github.io/doxygen/index.html Here is the main overview: https://dillo-browser.github.io/doxygen/dw-overview.html It also includes the documentation of most C functions that was not being included due to "/*" comments instead of "/**" at the beginning of the functions. It is rendered directly from the Dillo git repository weekly, until I figure how to trigger a pipeline in a different repo. It seems Doxygen is injecting some Javascript for the index, but I think there may be a way to avoid it so it can be properly read in Dillo itself. For now I'm leaving it as-is. Best, Rodrigo.

Hi all, The people at mailman3.com has agreed on hosting Dillo mailing list free of charge as part of their open-source program (thanks for the pointer Charles), for which I'm very grateful :-) With the help of Andreas, I have put together most of the mailing list archives I could gather from the old server, although there are some posts and attachments missing. The objective of this list is to continue the discussion for the development of Dillo[1] and related topics, in the same way dillo-dev was used before but with moderation to keep a friendly tone. [1]: https://dillo-browser.github.io/ The GitHub platform[2] is used for now to hold the repository, store issues and to run the CI tests, until a more suitable platform is available. Hello, Dillo's https stopped working on F26. It turned out that that was because of the move to openssl v1.1. The kind folks (in particular Matias Ellert) made a patch for F26 which works for both the old version of dillo with openssl v1.0 and v1.1. I am including his patch here in case there is interest in merging this upstream (which is the best place to put it). Best wishes!

Cannot access Dillo mercurial repository

Sometime during the past day my access to the Dillo HG repository started failing: $ hg incoming abort: error: [SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] certificate verify failed (_ssl.c:581) I have not changed my HG configuration at all. I did upgrade my Debian Jessie OS yesterday, but that will not have affected mercurial because I build that from source. I can ssh into my remote hosts as normal, only Dillo HG access has failed. Hi, I posted this some time ago but did not get any reply. I am using dillo-3.0.5 on a fully up-to-date Fedora 25 installation. I used to be able to access the website at The Telegraph - Calcutta but no longer. Nothing happens when I type the UR. This problem has been oing on for the past several months. Changes at hg.dillo.org - now I cannot access the repository

I noticed that my connections to hg.dillo.org were timing out. I discovered that the IP address had changed and so my firewall was dropping the packets. So I updated my firewall to fix that, and now my connections are immediately rejected. For instance, if I try "hg incoming" it immediately responds "abort: error: Connection refused" and exits with status 255 (which I take to mean that something serious went wrong). So what to do to fix this? Adding a "--verbose" flag to the "hg incoming" command did not change the output. Maybe the port 39390 which is specified in my repository's hgrc file is no longer correct, but I do not know how to test that. Any ideas? Regards, Jeremy Henty

Dear Dillo Developers, since the freeze for the next Debian Stable release is quite close, I wonder if there are any plans for a new Dillo release in the next few weeks. If so, I'd be happy if that release (epsecially if there will be a 3.0.6) would happen before christmas to be able to get it into the next Debian Stable release. (I currently assume that 3.1 won't be ready before christmas, but feel free to surprise me. ;-) The freeze for new upstream versions is on 5th of January 2017 and to be included, new upstream releases must have migrated from Debian Unstable to Debian Testing before that date. Given the 10 days migration period, the last chance for an upload would be on 2016-12-24, preferable earlier so that there's a chance to fix potential issues like unexpected build failures, etc. in time. P.S.: Releasing the next Debian Stable with a well-working 3.0.5 isn't bad either. Just wanting to let you know about these freeze deadlines. Cannot log into github

Can others log into Github with Dillo tip? I just built and installed and while I no longer see errors about cookie date formats with tip like I did with the version I had installed, it still does not log me in. I am using two factor auth with Github, in case that make a difference compared to anyone else's experience. Gmail textareas

Hello all, I have a work-around, so this isn't urgent. In view of recent events, keep caring for yourselves. Gmail sizes some text areas weirdly, as (CSS) width:80ex, and they disappear from view. I've tried two fonts, and the disappearance is complete in both cases. A cut down example is attached. A brilliant, and dedicated person, sharing his talents with us, the main architect of Dillo widgets, a reserved person with altruism and a ludic sense of humor. Startup time of the latest dev versions.

I am using Dillo as a help viewer of my IDE, because it has really short startup times and pressing F1 I get instant access to the documentation. Recently I tried to compile and use the recent development versions from the hg repository, because of the recent changes in the rendering and the general improvements in the browser. But unfortunately, the startup time seems to be increased and now I have to wait 2..3 seconds for browser to start and to show my help files. Is such slow startup time side effect of some changes that will be fixed some day, or it is kind of compromise, because of other improvements and this way will persists in the project from now on? Hi All, I frequent a Slackware Pi forum, and decided to get Dillo to remember my log-in details with cookies. Get Dillo to honour target=_blank

Hi all, How easy (or hard) would it be to get Dillo to honour the URL/FORM directive 'target="_blank" to get URL/CGI data returned in a new tab? I ahve looked at the code, seeing as Dillo already has tabs, but I just don't get C++ classes and stuff, and wouldn't know where to begin. The reason for asking this is if one has a form with a lot of data that needs processing, once submitted the data gets returned to the parent page... if there is a mistake, then you need to go back to the form, and as Dillo doesn't keep the previous page data, you have to fill it all in again. Hi Dillo developers, I stumbled upon a page with a lot of code snippets wrapped in a <pre> block, where Dillo seems to have a rendering problem: Underscores `_' are not drawn. I stripped down this real-world-example to the attached minimal html file which reproduces the problem: The page should render as follows: ============================================ softpoint_with_block() { { echo ""; } | ./softpoint.x leshouches } ============================================ However, in the development version of Dillo it renders as follows: ============================================ softpoint with block() { { echo ""; } | ./softpoint.x leshouches } ============================================ As you can see, the underscores in the function softpoint_with_block() are not drawn in Dillo. However, the underscores are drawn correcty if you * remove the style="..." specification from the <pre> block or * remove the line { echo ""; } | ./softpoint.x leshouches from the <pre> block content. Hi there, Here go some good news. Originally I was to send this internally to the core devs, but as we've benefitted from the feedback of active users in the list, and their experiences with the patches (before/afterwards), on the sites they usually browse, it looks like a good idea to do it again. Since June 6, when this thread [1] was started by Sebastian, I've been investigating/working in problems related to it. This led to some extensive rendering tests that catched a laundry list of problems with our current tip (#4643 today). This is a list with brief explanations, taken from the testing data tables I've gathered so far: Problems: 1: overwrites text with images. 2: crops images (aspect ratio). 3: different layout. 4: overwrites text with text float. 5: overwrites text with text. 6: CPU HOG with: tmp.num.html, tmp.num.small.html 7: Missing page sections (sometimes works for the same page). 8: Small images cut in two sometimes ("ESP", "CRO", ...) 9: Wrong aspect ratio for images (text line height) 10: Page drawn with offset (but browser thinks other section is on screen). There're test cases for each one, and most of them were taken and reduced from real pages. Having reduced test cases is good, reduced and isolated tests is better, but the good news is that I have a couple of patches that solve all of them! I'm not saying dillo will be error-free hereafter, but that the root of a whole family of problems has been found and fixed, and this will make future testing much simpler. GROWS2 is the "Grand Redesign Of Widget Sizes" v2 by Sebastian. This is a very powerful and flexible concept whose design allows floats, layers (and absolutes in the future, and more). It has proven very fast so far, even without optimizations. Well the patches are two simple but deep changes in the way markSizeChange() and queueResize() interact. The patch idea is close to graph coverage recursions (with pruning), applied to the widget tree. I'd like to commit it, upload the test suite I'm using, and show the testing data tables I've gathered so everyone can check it with their use cases and report on it. @Sebastian: May I, or would you prefer to review them before? (the patches are the "middle ground" you mentioned. Solve the dw hog problems at dw level, not in the parser, and reuse code you've already seen. A couple of days should be enough to review) @Sebastian: Problem #10 is not related to GROWS2, but a three year old bug discovered during the tests. So let's get it done first. How to reproduce it: Go to [2], wait a bit for most images to load, then use "find text" to find the "re-re" string, scroll a bit downwards to find the image and center it. Go back then forward; no image! But dillo thinks it *is* there so move the cursor to the center of the page and you'll see the hand cursor, wait for the tooltip and drag it a bit downwards to the right. Dillo will repaint from the image data. Bisect shows the bug was introduced by #2863. Attached is a simple concept patch for it.
