Another patch, this time not Win32-related. This works around the annoying "lazy loading" technique, which sets src to a placeholder image then uses JavaScript to fetch the real images after the pages load. Here's the diff: http://pastebin.com/wyP32Ukj (sorry it's not hg diff; I don't have access from school) I know Dillo aims to strictly follow standards, but I don't think it's a standards violation per se, so much as a trick too clever for its own good. I personally feel this helps the democratization of information access more than it hurts standards compliance, since otherwise the information might not be available until/unless Dillo implements JavaScript support. Disable caching

Hi, although caching mostly is good, there is serveral occasions when it's not wanted, specially with todays web2.0-concepts (user generated pages, etc.). Is there a way to disable caching in dillo? Maybe only for some sites? I've searched the archives and found a patch doing this, it was however dated back in 2003. So I'm intrested in som up-to-date information. Regards iveqy

html.cc cleanups

I have started looking at html.cc to think about the "parse quoted attributes like Firefox" patch, and here are some cleanups in the meantime. They remove two unused structs and make variable names consistent between function typedefs and function definitions. Prompted by some private conversation with corvid I've been digging through specs and source code to see what the state of play is. The HTML5 specification[1] states that the user agent should consume text, converting character references until it finds the matching close quote. If there is no matching close quote (ie. it sees an EOF first) then it terminates (strictly speaking, it switches to the data state and reconsumes the EOF, which makes it emit an EOF token). Taking out Dillo's bogus attribute value detection as I proposed would make Dillo parse quoted attribute values as per the HTML5 spec. The Hubbub HTML parser library[2] parses quoted attribute values as per the HTML5 spec. Firefox parses quoted attribute values as per the HTML5 spec *except* that if it sees an EOF then it backs up to the open quote, discards it, then reparses as though it was expecting an unquoted attribute value. Otherwise (ie. if it finds the matching close quote) it makes no attempt to detect a broken attribute value, no matter what content the attribute value has swallowed up. So it seems that the world at large has given up on trying to detect and correct broken attribute values. If you point dillo at http://www.reddit.com/ you will see many javascript fragments. These come from div elements with an onclick="$(this).vote('<$>votehash</$>', null, event)" attribute. Dillo thinks that the '>' looks suspiciously like an end tag character. It looks ahead, sees the '<' character and decides that its suspicions are correct, so it terminates the tag at the '>', warns of a missing attribute close quote and renders the rest as HTML. This algorithm may have been effective in the early days of the web but I think it clearly does not work well today. I can't think of a better way of doing the job so I suggest removing it and instead just finding the matching close quote in all cases. Patch attached. After applying this patch dillo reports 0 HTML errors from http://www.reddit.com/! Regards, Jeremy Henty

[patch]: fix VPATH builds

Currently src/Makefile.am adds -I.. to some compile flags so that all the #include statements work. This breaks when the build directory is different from the source directory. The right thing to do is add -I$(srcdir)/.. . Patch attached (with an extra tidy-up patch as a bonus). Tested both when building in the source directory and outside it. Regards, Jeremy Henty

I just finished building dillo 2.2 on my fresh OpenSuse 11.3 install.? I got the source for FLTK-2.0.x-r7690 (I had also managed to find an older version r6916, but it seemed to make no difference, other than that the latest version compiled with less warnings) and it compiled and installed fine.? I followed the directions found here: http://www.dillo.org/source.html Now before my system upgrade, my wife had been using dillo on a certain site successfully.? She had a cookiesrc in her .dillo folder, which had an entry for the site.? There is a captcha system on the site that seemed to work well until today.? I started dillo from the console to see if I could learn anything, but I was not able to make much of it other than I might need to add a couple of more sites to cookiesrc.? dillo mysteriously freezes

I seem to be experiencing a very nasty bug that breaks my Dillo. A few seconds after starting dillo, it "freezes" -- standard-output stops, the graphics freeze and never get redrawn (resulting in those psychodelic effects of moving windows over a non-redrawing window). My dillo window then doesn't respond to my window manager's "close" events, and I have to manually kill it. I can't give you the exact steps to reproduce it -- sometimes it's like this immediately after starting ... sometimes it magically starts to happen a few seconds afterwards -- possibly after I click on a link. dillo-2.2 fltk-2_pre7513 (I also tried with earlier versions (6970)) Ideas?

Hi, sorry for the huge delay. I only have limited Internet access atm. The problem you are seeing is that dillo 2.2 does not render headlines and paragraphs (h1,h2,...,p) as separate boxes. Therefore the box model is not applied properly. My display prototype ( http://flpsed.org/hgweb/dillo_display ) should handle these cases better. I plan to integrate this into dillo mainline. Unexplained Dillo Segfault

Every time I visit a web page, I get an unexplained segfault (viewing with strace). This has been occurring for 1-3 months now. I've recently realized a GCC bug with Mozilla based browsers here: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=270120 I think on one segfault with Dillo, I did get a "bad var font" error, but later lost the url -- so I can only try to recall the exact error. I doubt this is font related as I have several fonts installed. Normally, I run dillo with the command parameter "-g 999x666" to fit my screen more appropriately. The output, with 'ulimit -c unlimited' is below. You need to call ulimit -c unlimited in the shell from which you start dillo to actually get a core file. After dillo aborts, the core file should show up in /tmp.

From previous output it looks like the problem is related to an event and not the suspected function. I'd say: gdb ./dillo r http://uaddit.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=5931 at some point it'll crash, then: bt (and send us the backtrace). There's a lot more you can do with gdb, this is just to start. So, the problem is in this tiny spot. Please run gdb, set a break point in a_Html_load_stylesheet() and follow it carefully step by step until it crashes to know in what line the problem is triggered. -- Cheers Jorge.-

I had just fixed the dw simple image test that hadn't requested a resize when setting the imgbuf. And now I just found that one of the scaled2 test's images needs it as well. Perhaps we should make the resize argument to setBuffer() mandatory. But, better yet, how about if Image::setBuffer() just does a queueResize() if either of its dimensions are LENGTH_AUTO?

Ok, the general problem is that a single Textblock widget can handle multiple HTML elements. E.g. in this case: <a href=foo style="background-color: red">foo <b>bar</b></a> there is just a single Textblock drawing the whole thing. The style of the word "bar" would normally not have a background color set, but the red of the <a> element would shine through, but as the textblock simply draws one word after the other, we do not draw the whole <a> element and then draw the <b> element on top. To make the background color work nevertheless, I had introduced the inheritBackgroundColor hack, which will pass the red background to the style of the child element (<b> in this case). However, this hack does not work properly if the child element has a margin: <a href=foo style="background-color: red">foo <img src=foo.png alt=bar style="margin:1em"></a> So I think we should remove the whole inheritBackgroundColor() hack and replace it with some code in textblock.cc, that draws the proper background color for all words as necessary. We need to be careful though to not draw word backgrounds if they are the same color as the whole textblock to avoid excessive drawing. This would still not allow things like: <b style="border: 1px solid black">foo</b> but I currently don't see a simple way to make that work. Cheers, Johannes

style.css font-family misses redraw

If you specify a font-family in ~/.dillo/style.css, such as: * { font-family:sans-serif } And then visit a page like: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/downloads/6.6/ ... it will produce "ghost" lines from the previous rendering before the css was applied. Moving the window, or doing anything else that forces a redraw, cleans it up. (Let me know if you don't see this and I can provide a screenshot.)

Since there isn't one, we refresh the same URL over and over and over... We could refuse to follow a zero-delay refresh without a new URL, but I seem to recall back in the never-follow days that sometimes a page _wanted_ to be immediately refreshed once, after which it would provide the contents (I always wondered why). So perhaps the nav redirection stuff should use bw->redirect_level.

make instant meta-refresh optional?

I was just trying to look up a local place on Google Maps, and found that the page wouldn't render any more. So I investigated, and it turns out to be a combination of two problems: - Dillo now follows instant meta-refresh commands, instead of letting the user decide. - Google Maps redirects to a 'mobile' version of the site, which fails to recognize Dillo's user-agent string and returns WML instead of HTML. (I sent them info about this bug a few moments ago; hopefully they'll fix it) Would it be possible to make that first one optional? Maybe a config variable or something? I liked the old behavior much better. Dillo's jealous of Google

Dillo's *so* jealous of Google it won't let me see it! (So much for the open relationship thing :-) Log attached. I assume that the DENY message is from line 399 of src/capi.c, is that right? This certainly worked only a few days ago. What has changed? It's really not good that Dillo is by default silently denying me access to Google. How can this be improved? Regards, Jeremy Henty

Problem with fonts.

Hello, I have loaded Dillo Browser on to my ARM based embedded platform. Presently, I am facing a problem with fonts. The messages that I get while the browser comes up are --------------------------------------------------------------- bad font: variable ** WARNING **: preferred sans-serif font "helvetica Sans" not found. ** WARNING **: preferred serif font "helvetica Serif" not found. ** WARNING **: preferred monospace font "helvetica Sans Mono" not found. ** WARNING **: preferred cursive font "helvetica Sans" not found. ** WARNING **: preferred fantasy font "helvetica Sans" not found. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Also, the size of the text that appears on Dillo (On the ARM based system) appears very small. However, the same page if I open with Dillo running on a Linux PC, will show bigger fonts. So, my questions are: 1. How do I get rid of the "bad font" error message on my ARM-based system ? I have used LTIB as the unix based development platform. 2. How to overcome the font size problem ? The other day, I saw another of those pages about using :visited and display in order to allow others to learn whether the user has visited a page. (I remember Johannes pointing to a page about this last year, too.) I wonder whether it would be sensible to have a dillorc option defaulting to NO for whether to use :visited.
