While implementing the Lua DPI I saw that configure.in uses AC_OUTPUT in an obsolete way. This patch changes it to use the modern calling convention. I was freaking out a bit for a while there because I had created some files with names like dillo_hg_* and "hg status" was not reporting them as untracked, even though I had not "hg add"-ed them. The problem was that .hgignore contains a line "dillo", which ignores every file with the string "dillo" anywhere in its path. Many other lines in .hgignore are similarly inappropriate. It looks as though these lines were written to be interpreted as glob-style patterns, but in fact mercurial interprets every line as a regexp. So here's patch to make .hgignore a little more sensible. Regards, Jeremy Henty

[patch]: ignore unknown @-rules in CSS

Currently Dillo tries to parse every @-rule in the same way (with CssParser::parseImport()). This causes problems, particularly with @media. Here[1] part of the style is missing so that the line size is smaller than the text. I have also attached a small test case where a @media rule causes the red style to go missing. So, here are two patches that make Dillo ignore @-rules that it does not recognise. The first patch just moves the test for the import keyword from CssParser::parseImport() into the main parser loop. Because it changes indentation it looks much more radical than it is. The second patch reworks the main parser loop so that CssParser::parseImport() is only called for @import and other @-rules are skipped. Please review and comment. hello, I have opensuse 11.3 with gnome, and claws-mail. in order to view html content on claws-mail, I had to compile dillo. so I went to the site, downloaded fltk and tried to compile it (fltk-2.0.x-r7725). but after entering "make", I had this error : ******************************************************************** === making src === Compiling addarc.cxx... Dillo-Win32 patches - yet another update

After noticing some weird performance/stability issues in the latest Win32 build, I went back and noticed there was a bug in the dFcntl implementation, where non-blocking socket IO was never actually activated on Win32 (Unix and other platforms weren't affected). So I've updated the patches to fix that and a few other small things I discovered. First, the link: http://dillo-win32.sourceforge.net/patches.html Other changes: I've numbered the patches to reflect the dependency order, as much for my own sanity as anything. I've also removed the Html_css_repush_callback patch, since it breaks CSS streaming, though I've kept a copy on the off-chance there's ever a legitimate issue after all. I also have an updated testing build (binary and source) online if anyone wants to play with it. My build is still based on revision 1755, but that's only because the latest rendering code in hg's being worked on -- the patch applies, builds, and runs fine with the newest code as well. Johannes: I have not yet updated the DNS patch, but I intend to this weekend if I have the time. Thanks again for everyone's help and suggestions with this. [bug]: CssParser::{nextToken, skipString}() skip an extra character.

The CssParser class has an unfortunate interaction between nextToken() and skipString(): they are both eager to call getChar(). The result is that when skipString() succeeds it has already getChar()-ed the character immediately after the string to be skipped, but nextToken() insists on calling getChar() again. This means that the character after the skipped string is also skipped. This causes two bugs. Firstly, if there is a completely empty CSS comment, ie. '/**/', then the closing '*/' is ignored (because it has already been partly skipped over). This generally causes most or all of the style to be ignored as the parser searches for the end of the comment. You can see this in the wild[1]! Secondly, if a token starts immediately after a CSS comment, then its first character is lost. The attached example shows both bugs. The first bug stops the red style from being applied to the <p> element, and the second bug applies the blue style to the <i> element instead of the <li> element. The quick fix is for skipString() to call ungetChar() before returning successfully (patch attached). Luckily only nextToken() calls skipString(). Here are the split Dillo-Win32 patches, ready to merge into the upstream tree: http://dillo-win32.sourceforge.net/patches.html I've cleaned up the code somewhat, such as removing the ugly conditionals from dsock.h. This version no longer includes the infamous "timeout kludge"; however, it must be built against a patched FLTK2 library, as the upstream implementation is still very badly broken. (The necessary patch is available from the Dillo-Win32 SourceForge site.) These patches produce a working ./src/dillo.exe. DPI has not yet been ported, as I presently have neither the time nor interest to do so. I'll probably get a binary package and installer up sometime in the next few days for anyone who wants to play around with the latest and greatest. Let me know if I need to double-check anything. Dillo confused by embedded NULL characters

The "The remote certificate cannot be verified (code 20)" dialog popup window, that presumably pops up when accessing an unverifiable https site, often pops up many times while loading a page -- probably a separate instance for each image? Can it not pop up only once? (per unverifiable https domain?) (And perhaps the current window title "Choice5" could be a bit more informative? And maybe there should be an option to save such certificates to avoid future warnings?)

Locally, we chileans, followed the events since the beginning, and specially moved since a small paper note emerged to earth level saying they were all alive. These days I've realized the press coverage was humongous. It's said that a thousand million saw a part of the rescue around the world. [bug]: CSS sets insanely huge vertical extent

This small bit of HTML (attached) renders with an enormous vertical extent in Dillo - I have to hold down the mouse in the lower half of the scrollbar for several seconds before the slider moves even one pixel! Strangely, if you take out the "<span>"s then the vertical extent is *much* smaller, although still far too large. What's going on? Regards, Jeremy Henty

AFAIK, 2,3,4,6,8 and 9 are open, with some work done for 6 by corvid. After the big table rendering work long ago, I'm studying the tables code again. Please notice that the doxygen dw documentation on table algorithms (the math formulas part) is not up-to-date. It's done in a different way since the big patch. My idea is to refresh my memory on this part of the code, and then to try to devise a way to implement 8 and 9. At the same time, working on this part will help for 6. Most probably we'll have to try to tackle these complex problems coordinating our effort/knowledge. I'll be in better shape to help with this after working for a while on tables. @Johannes, @corvid, please state what are your plans for work on these remaining parts (if there's one already). -- Cheers Jorge.-

Hi Johannes, Right, after editing etc/resolv.conf and setting nameserver ip after dillo is launched, it can now resolve WLAN addresses but still remains unreachable. However, local LAN published web pages can now display. So I'm sure wget will work within LAN but not WLAN. It looks like a gateway ip/ routing issue at this point. Is there a gateway ip related variable much like what nameserver is for the dns ip? Btw, does dillo support printing initiated via the web page's html script? Hi Jorge, The EA lpc3250 is connected to a gateway router with IP 192.168.1.4. pinging local LAN hosts is fine but WLAN host are unreachable. I tried editing etc/resolv.conf with nameserver 192.168.1.4 , but this time after dillo is up instead and not before launching dillo. It is able to resolve but this is what I get... FWIW, so long we've had the HTML test suite, and the personal test pages each one of us develops. As you explained, the problem is how to automate HTML rendering tests. I hesitate to include an html test-page collection in the tarball because it would grow bigger and bigger and nobody would apply to test each one everytime a relevant change is made! :) I like the CSS checklist we have because it is sorted by property and provides test-cases we can reference by URL, and it lives outside the tarball so its size can grow independently. A fast way to check the tests is to provide an image with the correct rendering in the test page (maybe with an explanation too). It takes more time to prepare though, and each time you update the page you have to also update the screenshot. Quite a burden. I don't have a good solution yet. These days I've been working with Gecko and Dillo. Having the test page showed in both provides for a "dynamic screenshot" from Gecko. This avoids the burden of updating the image, with the advantage of showing how Gecko renders unespecified parts of the SPEC. An HTML test-page, with written explanations of what to check for, and two browsers is the fastest/simplest solution I see so far. (It also has the advantage of almost anyone being able to do the test). The browser patch is about as stable as I can get it, so I thought I'd send it in for your consideration. First the patch, then my comments: http://dillo-win32.sourceforge.net/files/dillo-r1705-win32-20100913-merge.d… I'd consider this "merge-ready" in terms of completeness, though I haven't much tested stability, and I'd need your opinion on coding style. This is a long patch (~1740 lines), with a lot of separate but closely-interconnected changes. I'd split it into smaller subpatches, but I'm not really sure how practical (or possible) that would be, so my apologies in advance for the length. I've run into a major impasse with DPI. Simply put, DPI is not portable to non-Unix systems. Specifically, there are two main problems as far as Windows is concerned: (1) lack of Unix signals, and (2) non-interchangeability of file and socket descriptors. Since I'm aiming for a native port, an emulation layer such as Cygwin is absolutely not an option. I'm faced with a bit of a dilemma here. The two options I see are to either redesign DPI, or ditch it altogether; and I don't think anyone is too keen on either idea. I've considered a fork, but I'm opposed to the idea on both practical and philosophical grounds (my goal's to help, not to hurt upstream). Any suggestions? Thanks & cheers, ~Benjamin

Penny Arcade is illegible in Dillo[1]. The problem is that its CSS sets the text attribute on the html element and Dillo ignores this, so we get black text on blue instead of white text on blue. Here is a demo: <html> <head> <style type="text/css">html{text:#F00;}</style> </head> <body> Blah, blah, blah </body> </html> The text is plain black, but if you change html to body in the CSS then the text is red as it should be. Refreshing pages with incomplete images

Currently refreshing a page only redownloads the text portion (I believe) and not the images, which is perfect IF the images have been fully downloaded/cached. On my slow connection, image-downloads frequently timeout, and refreshing doesn't retry to get them :'(.

I'm sure that our usual HTTP warning: unhandled MIME type: "text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" sort of msg is confusing to users in a "What? Dillo doesn't understand that character set?" sort of way when an img src attr is supposed to be modified by javascript or something.

There is unfortunately a severe problem with the CSS patch that was posted recently (the one that fixed the handling of CSS properties on the HTML element). It makes Dillo segfault when you drag the cursor across the text in a table cell. Test HTML and a gdb backtrace are attached. You can see that dw::fltk::FltkViewBase::drawRectangle() is called with a NULL color. I haven't determined exactly which circumstances trigger the problem - text in <p>s and <li>s appears to be OK, but text in a <td> reliably segfaults. Any suggestions as to other elements that I could test? (NB: I compile Dillo with -O0, your backtrace may look a bit different if you use a different optimisation level. This is almost a trivial cleanup, but I'd be more comfortable if someone else checked I have not missed anything. (I have been using it locally for a week or two with no problems so far.) Html_process_word() requires its argument to be null-terminated. This forces Html_write_raw() (the only caller of Html_process_word()) to write a null character before calling Html_process_word() and restore the original character afterwards. It turns out to be easy to change Html_process_word() to not need the null-terminator. This eliminates the hack in Html_write_raw() and lets us make several function arguments "const char *" instead of "char *". It's a little tricky to see that the patch is correct. It works because none of the functions that Html_process_word() calls require a null-terminator, and the return value of a_Html_parse_entities() *is* null-terminated. Have I missed anything? Hi, I'm creating a new distro that is supposed to be fast and light. I thought about Firefox but it all stacks up after you install gtk as well. So your slogan "fast and light" seemed sound the ticket. I compiled it on my ubuntu 10.04 system and it works on there. If anyone's interested, I've been working on a new patch to add native Win32 support to Dillo 2.x. It needs attention for a more experienced porter and is not yet ready for prime time, but it produces a running dillo.exe and should provide a reasonable base for further efforts. More information is here: http://obeythepenguin.users.sourceforge.net/dillo/ This is a complex patch that introduces several new low-level APIs, mainly sockets-related.
