Tooltips bug

Hi, I'm giving a look into the old dragging-tooltip bug: e.g. show an HTML image's tooltip, then scroll out of it with keyboard or mousewheel, and the tooltip will not be erased. Funny how FltkTooltip::onLeave() is called, but the tooltip window stays anyway. Has anybody looked into this one? BTW, does anyone know how to debug into FLTK with gdb? (FWIW, this bug is ancient; from the 2.x series). -- Cheers Jorge.-

Latest round of Win32 patches

In case anyone's still interested, I've got the latest round of Win32 patches up: http://dillo-win32.sourceforge.net/dillo/patches.php It's still based on dillo2, but since most of the patches are "behind the scenes" (network code, etc.), they should work fine with dillo3. (I'm planning to switch over eventually.) Apart from the portability code, most of it isn't even Windows-specific; I've personally been using it quite a bit lately on OpenBSD. Some highlights: - Cleaned up sockets portability layer (dsock) - Transparent SSL support (through dsock) using OpenSSL/CyaSSL - Built-in libcurl-based downloader with glitch-free user interface ;-) - Built-in preferences GUI (no manual dillorc editing needed) - Sane in-memory cookies implementation (no cookies.txt needed) - Various small tweaks, usability improvements, and bugfixes Just thought I'd share, ~Benjamin

I looked at the log and saw this error message: Nav_open_url: new url='dpi:/vsource/:about:splash' ** ERROR **: [Dpi_read_comm_keys] No such file or directory (ENOENT) Dpi_start_dpid: Not enough memory (ENOMEM) ** ERROR **: dpi.c: can't start dpi daemon I tried to view the source of the splash page. Is there really not enough memory or is this a follow-up error to the first one? Georg

I have some trouble using Dillo 1.3. When I click on the "Book" icon, select "view page source" from the menu or try to load a page from disk I get the message: "ERROR: can't start dpid daemon (URL scheme='dpi') or 'file' What could be a possible cause for this problem? Where in the code does it try to start this daemon? Georg

Thank you for your messages. I had used Mercurial for Windows and after moving the files to Linux the "IO" directory had become an "io" directory so autogen.sh did not run right away. This had irritated me. I managed to get autogen.sh run now. Georg

Using Mercurial I was able to clone dillo port1.3. However, it has no configure nor makefile and no makefiles in the subdirectories. Are there instructions how to use autoconf and automake for that? Or can you make a dillo 1.3 preview version available? Georg

can't bind action to backslash

Alexander discovered that binding an action to backslash does not work. I was thinking that the line-continuation code in dGetline came from Tim's work on the parser, but it appears to have been there since the dawn of dillo2. I personally would be tempted to remove the special code for '\' because I'd be surprised if we keep this possibility in mind every time that we use dGetline() somewhere -- and I don't believe it's documented anywhere. But if there's resistance to that, then there are also the options of 1) Making it a line continuation character only if everything following it is whitespace. 2) A special key name for backslash.

Rearrange link menu

Dear Dillo Developers, I would like to propose a small change in Dillo's link menu (the menu which pops up when you right click on a link), which I think would increase the usability a bit. The current link menu shows as first item "Open link in new window", and as the second item "Open link in new tab". I think it would be more convenient for the user to have these two interchanged, because It seems that the users use tabs more than multiple browser windows. What do you think? Mouse buttons in keysrc

Dear Dillo developers, I noticed that the key configuration via keysrc does not recognize mouse keys. So I am wondering whether anybody already thought about adding mouse keys? I think for many users something like <shift>mouse1 = new-tab mouse9 = forward mouse8 = back in keysrc would be very convenient. (This would probably make the options middle_click_opens_new_tab and middle_click_drags_page in dillorc obsolete.) Kind regards, Alexander

Quit Button Window Size fixed with latest fltk-1.3.0 release

It appears the latest release of fltk-1.3.0 fixed a problem I was seeing with the quit window size for Dillo-port-1.3.0 being full size within the DWM (window manager). (Either that, or a patch within dillo-port-1.3 fixed it, but it doesn't appear so because I don't think I've pulled Dillo-port-1.3.0 dev sources for awhile here, except for the recent fltk-1.3.0 release upgrade.) I put dillo through nm, and I saw a bunch of Fl_Paged_Device, Fl_PostScript_Printer, T Fl_PostScript_File_Device in there. I didn't pay any attention when they were all enthusiastic about printer support for a while there. Is there a justifiable reason that this gets pulled in, as opposed to an oversight on their part when #ifdef'ing or something?

Development schedule for version 1.3

Hi guys, It seems that FLTK will release their final 1.3 version next week on June 8th. Are we waiting on that to release our own dillo 1.3? The reason I'm asking is that as you know I'm preparing an installable Mac OS package, which I hope to go on dillo's download page (and hopefully introduce dillo to many non-developer users). So I'd like to know if we are just waiting on that final release of FLTK 1.3, or whether there are still open bugs remaining for our next release? Thanks, Reza

Update on segfault issues

I have been playing around with the 1.3 port on my "broken" machine. Still no luck with sorting out the segfault. I have spent a fair amount of time in gdb and valgrind trying to track down the source of the trouble, but no luck. The best I can do when compiling with gcc is to use -O0, which produces an executable which does not segfault. I have tried gcc 4.4, 4.5, and 4.6, to no avail. I have wondered if it was something to do with my architecture; I am running an AMD E-350 fusion processor in my machine. In light of this, I tried using the appropriate -march setting with gcc 4.6, but again no luck. The only bright side of all of this was that I decided to compile with Clang, and it built nicely with only one warning (which I could not see the reason for): chain.c:189:50: warning: too many arguments in call to 'Chain_debug_msg' Chain_debug_msg(FuncStr, Op, Branch, Dir, Info); ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ^ I will keep playing with this, to see if I can figure out the problem with gcc, but my hope is fading with regards to finding a solution. I'm trying to create a Mac OS executable bundle for dillo. This will be immensely helpful in increasing the reach of dillo to Mac users, as majority of them shudder and run away when they hear they have to download, (compile and) install the following: 1. Xcode 3 (which is a 4GB download!) 2. FLTK 3. libjpeg 4. libpng 5. zlib I've so far managed to cross compile both 32 bit and 64 bit binaries of dillo (same with fltk, libjpeg, libpng, zlib), create a bundle (which fixes the icon problem) and almost get it to run on another machine. I have a small problem however and can use some help. It turns out Mac OS passes a command line argument to applications when it runs them as a bundle. The command line option is something like -psn_0_25790615, where the latter part of the number is different in each run. Dillo of course freaks out when it sees it, prints out the help text (correct usage and whatnot) and exits. Can you please add a case to the command line parsing code to ignore an option if it includes text "-psn_0"? I could give it a shot but chances are I'll break something else. Hi guys, First post here, thanks for all your hard work on Dillo! I'm trying to compile and run dillo on Mac OS 10.6.7 (and report the bugs I find :D ). The good news is that Dillo runs. It also seems to eventually connect to websites, which is good news too. But at least for me loading a page is a hit or miss experiment. Sometimes it waits for a long time (maybe 2-3 minutes) and couldn't connect, as if there was a DNS problem, other times it loads the same page easily in a few seconds. During this time the CPU utilization hovers around 134% (on a dual core machine), with 3 threads and 48MB of memory usage. Is this behavior expected? Perhaps it's related to the warnings above? My guess is that it's either a DNS problem or an HTTP connection problem, resulting into a time-out case. P.S. Sometimes it seems if I open another tab and enter another address it will help the first tab to load, but I can't get it to consistently act like that. Other times, it seems a tab can get stuck waiting for the host and can never load the page. It also seems adding http:// to the beggining of addresses help some times, but not consistently. P.S.2 I checked my network connection with my other browser (chrome) and it has no problem connecting the mentioned websites. P.S.3 Are there reference rendering snapshots available? The Yahoo's web site and even Google's both render in a strange way (similar to the way links2 renders them). In fact the only website that I could get to render correctly is dillo.org (when it opens, other times it just decides not to open even after 5 minutes of waiting). A chronology of discussions on floating elements support, (or the floating element blues!) IMHO the number one missing feature of Dillo now is support for floating elements, which makes the rendering of majority of web sites unappealing / unreadable. So I became curious to see what sort of discussions has been going on in the past regarding this issue. It appears that this has been a goal for some time, at least as far back as 2004. Interestingly no one mentioned it in between 2004 and 2008, but from 2008 there has been interest in it again. Here's a little chronology I've put together from the discussions on the mailing list. Two bugs in the Dillo GUI (both Mac and ubuntu)

I've found a few obvious bugs in the current dillo_port1.3. They first two are present both in Linux (ubuntu 10.4) and Mac OS X (10.6.7). 1. There is no shortcut icon, the system uses a generic "exec" icon instead. 2. The X icon on the tab bar is missing, so the only way to close a tab is to press ctrl+w. 3. This might be a bug in the Linux version, albeit a minor one. When opening www.slashdot.org, Dillo in ubuntu uses a light brown background color. In the Mac version a grey background color is used. As reference, chrome uses grey too. 4. This one is more of a feature request. Like most Mac applications, the shortcuts should work with Command key instead of control key. (I know it's low priority, and I might give it a shot myself later on). General note: I think dillo (FLTK in general?) renders better / more beautifully in Mac than Ubuntu. The fonts are less jaggy (It seems the linux version is not using vector fonts at all?), and I can scroll both horizontally and vertically using touchpad gestures on Mac, while only vertical scrolling works in dillo under Linux. And at least for slashdot.orgthe colors are rendered more faithfully. P.S. I guess now we can officially claim in the dillo website that dillo 1.3 is fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.6. I'll get my hands on a 10.5.8 machine next week and will try it there too. -Reza

Hi there, FWIW, I've been using the 1.3 branch for months now with no problems (i.e. as stable as 2.0). It's more or less 99% done, with some new features (as improved tabs). ! :-) ! The 1% remaining is the ability to switch panel sizes on-the-fly, which could take me 1 day of work aprox. I'd like to get your feedback on this browser because it will sooner than later become the official branch. Comments? -- Cheers Jorge.-

dillo_port1.3: ctrl-q randomly kills dillo and all tabs

I took a snapshot of dillo_port1.3 a week or so ago and have been finding on CTRL+Q randomly acts like ALT+Q (or kills the Dillo session with all open tabs). One way I've been able to reproduce this, loading several websites and letting them to load completely and then do CTRL+Q. Anybody else seeing this with dillo port 1.3? I'm seeing this after I completely uninstalled dillo-1 & dillo-2 from my system, leaving only dillo_port1.3 installed. $ install/bin/dillo dillo_dns_init: Here we go! A couple of months ago, I had some confusion with the fltk people where I expected Enter to trigger something, but ' ' was doing it. My recollection was that they seemed to think one should expect ' ' to be what triggers actions. Is ' ' some sort of standard in the gui world nowadays?

And of course 4.x has been out since...let's see...April 20, 2005. 2.95 was still apparently around back in http://lists.auriga.wearlab.de/pipermail/dillo-dev/2003-December/001565.html , which prompted this code at the time. Can I rip out the version-checking and make it into an ordinary case of adding the argument if it isn't already in CFLAGS?

Still thinking about a plan of attack. Not sure if I mentioned it, but Jorge had mentioned trying a different compiler, which I did (rebuilt both FLTK & Dillo 1.3) with gcc 4.4, 4.5, _and_ 4.6. Nothing different. Tried building FLTK2 on the problem machine, and could not get a clean compile. This interests me, as I have no problem building it on my desktop. I am going to look into that more.

On this page,?http://www3.sympatico.ca/rsquared/gdb/, there are two images at the bottom which link to the W3C HTML and CSS validation pages. ?The inline style for the images is as follows: style="border:0;width:88px;height:31px" On every browser I have used, including Dillo 2.2, the blue link box around the images has not been displayed. ?Under the Dillo FLTK 1.3 port, it shows them. ?My question is, why? ?Which is the correct behaviour? IMO, dillo's adoption seems to be negatively affected largely because of the uncertain pace and status of fltk....for instance, fedora repos are not updating dillo from 0.8.6 simply because it is based on fltk2, which is not released and perhaps will never be, though even that is not clear..... T

Hi ... I created a section, and immediately under that "top-level" section, 3 additional "sub-sections". No problems here. I now want to create another (and additional) "top-level" sections. I can't seem to figure out how to do that. Each new section, is created as a "sub-section" of the original "top-level" one. Anybody know if it's possible to do what I'm after? TIA ... -- Duke

Hi there, These days I noticed I was using the FLTK2-based dpis with the fltk-1.3 dillo. :-o ! Then found a bunch of bugs and glitches in the new downloads dpi. Now the repo has a couple of patches that address the problems. After some testing it works well for download, stop, resume, rename, multiple items, etc. Please check. -- Cheers Jorge.-

It seems that Dillo is not loading a fresh copy of a page when doing a C-r or clicking on the Reload button. It seems to be reading the cached copy only. I'm working on a local html page with a "link"ed css file. I change the css, click reload - nothing happens. I have to exit and restart Dillo for the changes to be recognized. Also ... Just crashed Dillo when trying to view the css file by right-clicking on the current page. -- Duke

bg_color question

Hey ... I've set: allow_white_bg=NO #let's see if red does show up bg_color=0xff0000 in ~/.dillo/dillorc I don't see no red anywhere - not that I want it ;) Just for debugging. Turning off white, gives me a "yellowish" bg, but I thought that setting bg_color would give me _anything but white_. Doesn't seem to be how it works. What am I missing? -- Duke

Debug build

Is there a way to turn on a debug mode when building? I have done ./configure --help, and don't see much there. Basically I am stuck - I built dillo 1.3 on my opensuse machine, and it was segfaulting. I won't fill in the details of a long story, but I went and built it on a Fedora 14 machine (actually the same machine, just booted into Fedora), and the segfault did not happen. Built it on Linux Mint (Debian edition) and the same segfault is back. It is showing the problem as being in libc, but when I do a backtrace, there is not much meaningful stuff there. I would basically like to see more information - starting with turning off the optimisation, and possibly cranking the level of the debug from -g to -ggdb3. I just wanted to ask before I started monkeying with the configure files...

Hello all, Forgive me if this has been discussed before (I do not recall seeing it since I have been following the mailing list). ?I recently started experimenting with some HTML5 stuff on a page I maintain, and as expected, dillo indicated an error in the html source. ?You can see the page here: http://www3.sympatico.ca/rsquared/gdb/ The error is: "HTML warning: line 2, the required DOCTYPE declaration is missing (or invalid)" Now this does not surprise me at all, as I presume dillo is not expecting the new doctype declaration. ?Anyway, I thought I might raise this issue, and see what sort of mind the devs have about implementing HTML5 in dillo. ?Of course, I realise you fellows are probably up to your ears in the FLTK 1.3 port, but I thought this might make for an interesting discussion, if nothing else. ?To start off, I suppose the danger in implementing any of the new html stuff is that it is not standardised at all yet. ?See here for more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML5#W3C_standardization_process I guess the worry is that it could possibly be a bit of a moving target.
