I took the safe route and just mved my current sources.list to sources.list~ and then created a new one with the above entries and followed your directions (while connected to the internet). But, I jumped into attempting to compile 0.8.0 after reading Kelson's reply and just installing the glib-dev files then got these warnings from config: configure: WARNING: *** No libz found. Disabling PNG images *** configure: WARNING: *** No libjpeg found. Disabling jpeg images.*** So I guess I better delete the sources dir and start over again... Thanks a lot. I appreciate your patience here. I'm one of these weirdos that doesn't like to fondle plastic rodents :-) and wonder how difficult it would be to have an option that would number all the links on a page and allow one to enter that number instead of clicking on the link. I use w3m a lot for my-1st stage surfing, and it allows me to Tab down to a link and then hit Return, but that's pretty clumsy. (When I encounter a site needing a closer look, I bring up Dillo, although this would be easier, come to think of it, if I just used Dillo and disabled image downloading at first. That IS possible??) Kelson and Madis, Thanks much. Having a rough time here. I've only used apt-get with the CDs (which are the only entries in my /etc/apt/sources.list) Everything went fine except.... apt-get install libpng2-dev Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies: libpng2-dev: Depends: zlib1g-dev but it is not going to be installed E: Sorry, broken packages So then I did: apt-get install zlib1g-dev Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies: zlib1g-dev: Depends: zlib1g (= 1:1.1.3-18) but 1:1.1.4-1 is to be installed E: Sorry, broken packages So apparently I need zlib1g-dev_1.1.4-1.0woody0_i386.deb which matches my version of zlib1g and found it at ftp.debian.org but don't know where to go from here. Currently trying to make sense of the apt man pages :-) Tom

Greetings Dillo People, I ran into a problem compiling Dillo from the latest tarball, and didn't want totarget anyone specifically, so I hope you don't mind me posting this here.... Been over and over the INSTALL file. Dillo NEEDS glib endquote There's no glib/GLIB in any /bin on my box, and no file called glib-config. Would that be a file that would only exist if I had compiled libglib myself? I tried to "./configure" dillo 0.8.0, but got this error: ... configure: creating ./config.status ... config.status: creating src/IO/Makefile config.status: error: cannot find input file: src/IO/Makefile.in Did this happen to other users (Dillo's fault)? Or is my Linux system messed up/my build tools have wrong versions (my fault)? If I would understand this autoconf stuff, I would know the answer and wouldn't bother You with this question. And if it's my system's fault, I don't expect You to help me out, of course. But maybe it's a Dillo bug? Kind regards Peter Wiehe

IAAPBIHNCAAE I am a programmer but I have no clue about autoconf either :) I don't mean running ./configure but I mean writing/modifiying/understanding 'Makefile.in', 'depcomp', whatever. BTW I'm currently downloading Mozilla sources. Mozilla has definitively its good aspects. But the download says at the very start: 5.5 KB/sec :-) Time left 1 hour 15 minutes :-( 31380 KB :-o Anyone still believing Dillo is obsolete? ;-) Interesting to know that Internet Explorer and Mozilla use the same code base as ancestor! Did You know that? And I've taken a look at Zen another browser, circa the same size as Dillo. But Zen is unmaintained, C++ and most importantly, Dillo sources seem more nicely structured than Zen (from aesthetical and technical view). Kind regards Peter Wiehe

Hi Everyone, I heard of dillo recently when installing Gentoo linux. I was browsing their software. I am a Big fan of small efficient tools of most any kind. Dillo has definately made a fan of me. For daily usage I generally use FireFox, but when im setting up a box on very limited resources, generally I will set things up as lightweight as possible. A Big Thank You for Dillo. Ok, ill be good and stay on topic here on out /grin. Gary

Technically, I see two ways of making the port: (I'll concentrate on the HTML rendering part because the UI port should be pretty easy in comparison). Rendering port alternatives: 1) Port Dw to FLTK 2) Make a pure FLTK widget tree (convert Dw into FLTK analogs) Maybe the first is easier in the short term, but I'd much prefer the second one because: * Having a custom widget system (Dw) that's embedded into FLTK and that also embedds native FLTK widgets is a very complex scenery that requires too much knowledge to work with (BTW that's what we currently have with Dw/GTK+). * If we can push the positioning/resizing/rendering complexity into FLTK's internal mechanism, it would simplify a lot the task (less complex algorithms, less code, less intertoolkit sync) * If we end we a pure FLTK tree (with its parser), it could be easily reused by the FLTK community, and this also leads to easier maintenance because more developers would be deploying it and helping to improve and fix bugs. One of the main points of Dillo's speed is streamed rendering. That is the ability to show the page as it is being constucted. I assume this is possible with FLTK. The way this works is by letting the parser to build the widget tree as it gets the HTML building blocks. By far, the most complex part is table rendering (because you don't know the table size in advance (i.e. each cell size). This means that cells start to resize and affect their rows and hence the table itself. OTOH, I have hopes in FLTK's internal mechanism.
