Mark Shuttleworth Interview for Software Freedom Day

Last Thursday we received a DVD from Mark Shuttleworth with a 14.5 minute interview using questions that I submitted. My husband, Jan, re-encoded it and reduced it from one gigabyte to 152 megabytes. The questions relate to how he got involved in Open Source, his experience in space, why he decided to start Ubuntu, what the word ubuntu means, and how he feels about the progress of open source and Ubuntu to date. It is now available for download at: http://www.archive.org/details/Mark_Shuttleworth_SFD It took us about 3 hours to upload the file, but your connection may be faster. We think it's an excellent interview. He starts and ends complimenting the work done on Software Freedom Day and wishes us success on this one. It is not "dated" so it will be appropriate for at least a couple of years, or to use as you see fit. It's under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike open source license. OLPCs for the SFD competition

Hi all, Only 6 days to go for most of our events!! Just a couple of last things to think about. 1) We have had a third OLPC donated for the 2007 SFD competition from the OLPC project themselves! This means there are 3 chances to win an OLPC! Check out the Competition page. The 2 best events and the best OLPC contribution or plan all win one. Entries close 30th September so you have some time to pull together your entries. http://softwarefreedomday.org/Competition2007 2) Make sure your SFD wiki pages are up to date, and try to get some posters, radio play, announcements out early this week to get more people along to your event. 3) Make sure you take loads of pictures and upload them to the gallery :) We'll be putting up a reporting tool for everyone after the event, so please fill out a basic report because it helps us demonstrate the global success of the day and gain more support for SFD. Hi all, We are trying to finalize our banners for SFD here in Nepal. We've already put our local sponsors logos in those banners, posters and flyers. My query is whether we can use the global sponsors logos in those banners and posters by distinguishing them from local sponsors. Cheers, Subir

Hi all, we just noticed someone had Dell and Red Hat in their sig as a sponsor of their event, but it wasn't clear whether the companies were sponsoring the global event, or their event. We encourage all teams to get local sponsorship where they can as it encourages local support of FOSS and our community, but please make sure it is clear that local sponsors are supporting local events, so we can differentiate between local sponsors and global sponsors.
