Celebration SFD'07 in Guinea

Hi all, I inform you that the team SFD-Guinea organized in prelude of Software Freedom Day a series of formations activities, informations activities, of sensitizing and promotion activities under the free software topic. This day was celebrated under the topic "free Software, a solution of reduction of the numerical fracture in Guinea" and was placed under the presidency of its Excellence Mister the Minister for the communication and new information technologies. A - Formations Activities : 1. of September 10-14: Workshop of initiation to the computer science and the operating system GNU/Linux for the pupils, students and graduates, a number of participation 220 divided into three groups and two levels 2.Atelier of initiation in GNU/Linux and OpenOffice.org for the secretary of the public office and deprived, a number of participant: 38. 3. Workshop ADEN (Support with desenclavement numerical) for the managers of the cybercafés, numbers participants 52. This workshop was deferred fault of financial means B- Information and sensitizing activities : 1. Animation of two radio transmissions for information and sensitizing 2. Four publi report in the television C - Activities of promotion 1. the installs partys were organized from the 10 to September 15 2. more than 150 CD-ROOM of Ubuntu and 100 of OpenCD were distributed. One received the request to engrave of more than 180 CD-Room de Ubuntu and OpenCD. In addition, one received the request of more than 100 new membres to our association. Actually, we work on the report and we would like to take part in the price of the best organization of SFD2007 but the expiry is very short. the photos will be soon available on line Thank.

wesnoth tournament

I look at the photos from all the wonderful SFD events around the globe and I am proud to have been a small part of it. However I was feeling a bit bummed about our low turnout in comparison to other places - we had 14 people. Then my wife pointed out that as Copley has a permament population of 102 people we actually got 13.725% of the population - that seems like a very respectable figure :) One of the biggest reasons I hear from people against switching to Linux is the lack of games, so we had a networked Battle for Wesnoth tournament - which the gamers *loved*. The impact was somewhat diminished when I could give them a windows copy to take home, but meh, it's still FOSS. Anyway my idea is that next year we have an international BfW tournament. Anyone out there feel they could take on the might of the Copley Crew? We can talk details when we start gearing up for next year, just thought I'd float the idea while I'm thinking about it in case I forget and someone else remembers - and to give would-be challengers time to practice :p - Noven -- --- > MageData: extreme technomancy <

SFD celebration in Nepal

We demonstrated the Freedom Toaster with the use of mouse instead of touchscreen (which is planned to be done later with enough funds) due to budget constraint. More than 80 CD's were toasted with the demonstrated Freedom Toaster. Software Freedom Day 2007 Competition - entries close 30th September

Hi all, Firstly, thank you to everyone that has filled in our report form! We have about 100 replies already, and if everyone else could pleae fill in the form (even if you have posted your report by email) then that would be great! It'll help us in promoting SFD and also in getting UN recognition for the day. This is just a friendly reminder about the competition for Software Freedom Day 2007. There are two categories of prizes: 1) The best SFD event for 2007 (2 prizes) 2) The best OLPC contribution or plan for contribution (1 prize) The three prizes are, you guessed it, One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) computer systems generously donated by Google and OLPC! The due date for your entries is the 30th September, so make sure you get your entries in on time. Positive and constructive discussions plus a thank you

Hi all, Firstly I just want to say that it would be great if everyone could please try to keep the tone on this mailing list very positive and constructive. We all come together in the spirit of software freedom to achieve something pretty damn special, and to that end we need to all recognise in each other an ally in the fight for software freedom, while being respectful of our differences in opinion.
