Dear all, Considering we have had a lot of teams in India in the past years I will be traveling to Bangalore, India and attend the GNOME.Asia Summit 2011 [1]. I intend to talk about why Software Freedom matters, explain a few more things about licensing (based on discussion I have had on IRC with some Indian team leaders), Free Software and Open Source and hopefully run a round table discussion with potential team leaders for 2011. The main motivation has been that for the first time SFI founder, VP and treasurer and I met in 2010 for the 1st time after 3 full years of collaboration, and a lot of things came out of it. I believe getting a chance to sit together and discuss various strategies, event organization and road blocks can be very beneficial for the team leaders who could attend. Looking forward to meeting some of you in person, and hopefully the SFI board will be able to attend other FOSS conferences in the upcoming months in different areas and engage into face to face communication with more team leaders. Greetings to all, Me and my team here in University of Benin Nigeria are trying to set up a Linux User Group. I would say its not easy and thanks to Canonical who gave us 10 CDs on Ubuntu 9.04 last year which we are gladly making use of and I must say that the operating system is great and most people we preach it to loved it. We are still on the learning phase of Linux and we love to do great things and we believe that by hosting a freedom software day here we do a lot more talking for us, my team and I are working hard for our website and if there is any help any one can render we will be grateful for the assistance.We're also looking for volunteers to help us get direct site were we could download UBUNTU packages and update for off line mode installation that will help a lot because Internet access is one of our limiting factors here and that is why most persons here shy away from UBUNTU Thanks for your time and the great work you guys are all doing I will like to have assistance in the form of advice, download links, pdf materials, books, etc that can help us, please do contact us. SFD "Registration is On" Campaign - We need your help

Dear everybody, We prepared 200 packs of goodies and we have around 140 teams registered so far. That means we still have five days to get 60 teams! In order to do that we need your help to run a "SFD registration is on" campaign! Would everyone try to find the contacts of all the local communities in your country and inform them about the SFD registration and ask them to organize and register a SFD event? Let's keep track of the local communities list here: http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/MarketingCommittee/CommunityList so we can reuse it for the coming years. If you cannot edit the wiki page, please send me an email separately to tell me your wiki login name, I can add you in the MarketingGroup or feel free to send me the list so I can add it for you. I drafted an email to send to local communities, please feel free to modify, localize and send to your local communities. Blogging and microblogging would be great too. I had already contacted 100+ local communities so far and contacting more, will update on the wiki list as next step. With everybody's help, we can definitely bring SFD to more places, so let's do it! Hi! A question about the SFD event date.....

Hi all fellow SFDers A Quick Question... Is the date 17th September compulsory for hosting a SFD event? can we host SFD 2 or 3 days before? I ask this because we may have our unit tests in our university starting from 16th September lasting till 20th September... so it will be great if we could host the event on 13th September, 2011 since otherwise on 17th many students in my college as well as the organizing team members will be busy with tests... Spanish locale for the website

I still see many website articles in english, maybe it would be a good idea to start localization on them. Definitely a worthy addition to our marketing tools for team organizers. I do have a small problem regarding the license being NC. Organizing a SFD event means that some team will raise funds and maybe even make money (for themselves or the organization they represent). So in that context NC being so vague could conflict with such an event.
