We demonstrated the Freedom Toaster with the use of mouse instead of touchscreen (which is planned to be done later with enough funds) due to budget constraint. More than 80 CD's were toasted with the demonstrated Freedom Toaster. Although we've already filled up the report form, we will have more detailed report for the competition with all the photos, descriptions and media coverage in the days to come. Cheers, Subir

Software Freedom Day 2007 Competition - entries close 30th September

Hi all, Firstly, thank you to everyone that has filled in our report form! We have about 100 replies already, and if everyone else could pleae fill in the form (even if you have posted your report by email) then that would be great! It'll help us in promoting SFD and also in getting UN recognition for the day. This is just a friendly reminder about the competition for Software Freedom Day 2007. There are two categories of prizes: 1) The best SFD event for 2007 (2 prizes) 2) The best OLPC contribution or plan for contribution (1 prize) The three prizes are, you guessed it, One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) computer systems generously donated by Google and OLPC! The due date for your entries is the 30th September, so make sure you get your entries in on time. Positive and constructive discussions plus a thank you

Hi all, Firstly I just want to say that it would be great if everyone could please try to keep the tone on this mailing list very positive and constructive. We all come together in the spirit of software freedom to achieve something pretty damn special, and to that end we need to all recognise in each other an ally in the fight for software freedom, while being respectful of our differences in opinion. United Nations and Software Freedom Day

Hi all, The Software Freedom International Board will be aiming for United Nations recognition of Software Freedom Day as a day of international importance for 2008. We wanted to let you all know so that you can try extra hard to keep track of the numbers and successes you have over Software Freedom Day, as it will all contribute to our case in helping the world understand the importance of Software Freedom. If anyone would like to help us with this quest, please let us know, or even reply to this post with your thoughts. We feel strongly that Software Freedom underpins our basic human rights in a highly digital world, and so want to help the UN understand and promote software freedom as a way to maintain our human rights: http://softwarefreedomday.org/SoftwareFreedom There are already United Nations projects that are strongly supportive of FOSS such as IOSN (http://www.iosn.net/) UNESCO (http://www.unesco.org/cgi-bin/webworld/portal_freesoftware/cgi/page.cgi?d=1) and more, but SFD is as yet not a "Special Day" on their website (http://www.un.org/events/) nor is Software Freedom spoken about officially, something to work towards :) Thank you all for your participation and in taking Software Freedom to your communities! Software Freedom Song

To celebrate the Software Freedom Day, I drafted a Software Freedom Song. I am too busy to prepare FPT activities for Software Freedom Day Hanoi 2007 (I'm the director of FPT Open Solutions), so the lyrics is not so smooth yet. Please listen to the midi and comment. Promotion of SFD on Digg/Slashdot

Hello, I was wondering if there was an organized effort to promote SFD on Digg and Slashdot. It seems that they would be two likely places to promote awareness of the event. I did searches to see if Software Freedom Day had been submitted and that it pointed to SoftwareFreedomDay.org rather than a news site or someone's blog.
