Free Culture Discs
by Paul Nijjar Sept. 18, 2014

Sept. 18, 2014

Hello, I joined the mailing list to know that our group has put together a Free Culture Sampler disc of CC-licensed audio. We are burning these tracks to CDs and distributing them at our event. It consists of a selection of curated music tracks, and some sample podcasts. Here is a link to our track listing: http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/2014/Canada/Kitchener/TWC/FreeCultureSam… There is a zipfile that you can download of all the tracks available here: http://kwsfd.dyn.theworkingcentre.org Please be mindful of our bandwidth. If you are going to distribute the zipfile to many other people please mirror it on your own site. - Paul

Windows Free Software DVD
by Paul Nijjar Sept. 17, 2014

Sept. 17, 2014

One of our team members (Charles McColm) put together a Windows Free Software disc. This includes the Free Culture Disc I posted earlier. The disc has some limitations. It is English-only and may be limited to 32 bit software. But you can use the framework and modify it to your needs. To download it, go to https://archive.org/details/SFDWINSOFT2014 and click on "All Files: HTTPS" (or start up a torrent if you would like). I do not know whether there is another Windows disc of current software for SFD this year. If not then please feel free to use ours. - Paul

You might consider "Terms and Conditions May Apply": http://tacma.net/ . It pretends to be about EULA conditions but is really about surveillance. The movie is not free culture. however. - Paul

Privacy / IT security movies suggestions?
by Fabián Rodríguez - FACIL Sept. 8, 2014

Sept. 8, 2014

Hi everyone, This last weekend I overheard on the radio there was an event in France (country-wide) where several "hacker" events took place (journalist words, not mine). I remember over hearing there were several movie screening on the subject of privacy and IT security. Would anyone here know which films screened over the weekend in France in this context? I don't have any other details, I thought I'd ask here on the off chance someone would have been there. If you have any suggestions of movies in that subject I'd like to hear them. Here is a list of movies related to free open source software we have documented for possible future screenings, let's share any other interesting findings: http://wiki.facil.qc.ca/view/Comit%C3%A9_FACIL_M%C3%A9dias/SQIL2014/Soir%C3… Cheers, Fabian -- Fabián Rodríguez, président, FACIL http://www.legoutdulibre.com / +1-514-880-6322 ~ FACIL, pour l'appropriation collective de l'informatique libre http://facil.qc.ca/fr/contactez-nous

Help from DFF for SFD
by Pranav Kant Sept. 6, 2014

Sept. 6, 2014

We are organizing SFD for the first time in our college. Its sad that there are no goodies this time given to SFD participants this year. I was wondering if any help can be provided to SFD participants this year like funds which we can then use to order goodies on our own. Goodies were good way to make the event more attractive for newcomers and we wish if there had been some goodies this year too. Thank you. -- Regards, Pranav Kant, Department of Computer Science National Institute of Technology Hamirpur http://pricked.in/

Overwriting attachment files on the Wiki
by Bob Jonkman Aug. 30, 2014

Aug. 30, 2014

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi Fred: I've uploaded an iCal (.ics) file to our page on the Wiki, which I would like to keep updated as we add activities to our Software Freedom Day event. The filename should stay the same, so that when I upload a new file people will simply see the new events appear in their calendars. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to overwrite files with the same name. Is it possible to remove that restriction?
