Issue with Confirmation
by Mohit Goyal Aug. 3, 2015

Aug. 3, 2015

I had registered my team PULUG for SFD 2014 with wiki link http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/2014/India/Chandigarh/PULUG But i didnt recieve any confirmation mail....but after 2days i saw that mail in my spam box, and when i tried confirming...it threw me an error..... " The registration file you are trying to access doesn't exist. This could be happening because you already activated your registration (most likely) or because the URL you are accessing is invalid. " But on my event map it PULUG is visible but in wrong city. What should i do now? Regards Mohit Goyal

The Date Itself
by Bart Lidofsky Aug. 3, 2015

Aug. 3, 2015

I do realize that Software Freedom Day is an attempt to create a world-wide connection. But I do have a question: Is an event that may be a week off from the actual date, but will get hundreds of attendees, as opposed to an event that will get virtually no attendees, outside the spirit of the date? This is NOT a rhetorical question. A group I belong to went for the latter instead of the former for several years, and has become quite discouraged as a result. There are several major town festivals in my area, but they are a week off one way or the other. I would like to set up a table at a town festival, and am therefore interested in whether it would be just a random Software Freedom demo, or could it be considered a Software Freedom Day event. Re: [SFD-discuss] [SFD-announce] SFD 2015 registration is on!
by jimmypierre.rouen.france＠gmail.com Aug. 1, 2015

Hey Fred, Je ne suis pas bon avec les WIKI. Comment vas-tu ? J’ai créé mon groupe après je nage ! Au plaisir, Jimmy From: sfd-announce-bounces(a)sf-day.org [mailto:sfd-announce-bounces@sf-day.org] On Behalf Of Frederic Muller - DFF Sent: 01 August 2015 13:02 To: SFD announcements Subject: [SFD-announce] SFD 2015 registration is on! Dear all, With a bit of delay, the Digital Freedom Foundation is very happy to announce that registration of the twelfth edition of Software Freedom Day <http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/> just opened. While the wiki has been ready for some times and a few teams started to create pages registration was another story. In fact our infrastructure needs updates and we still haven't found way to do that easily. Now as far as Free Software is concerned while we see more projects adopting Free Software licenses we also feel end-users still struggle with their proprietary operating systems. At the same time both hardware and software seems a lot more integrated and in some fields it seems that you can just print something with your Free 3D printers, order some kind of Free Hardware controllers online, flash them, hack them and get a complete and finish product running (or flying, or...). We're involved here with people who had no special interest in Free Software or Hardware and discovered it through pursuing their hobbies, and they just love it! On the sponsorship side we have unfortunately lost Canonical financially but they are still providing the mailing list infrastructure (snif snif.. they were our first sponsors). Google and Linode are still supporting us luckily and we are exploring new ventures (though nothing confirmed at this stage). So as usual registration <http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/cgi-bin/register.py> happens after you have created your event page on the wiki <http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/> . We have an exaustive guide here <http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/StartGuide> for newcomers and for the others who need help, the SFD-Discuss mailing <http://mail.sf-day.org/lists/listinfo/sfd-discuss> is probably the best place to get prompt support. As usual we will come back with more details things to do or worth mentioning to bring inspiration and motivation to the celebration on the sfd-discuss mailing list. So get ready to celebrate and happy preparations to all! The Digital Freedom Foundation

Date and Website for SFD2015?
by Bob Jonkman July 7, 2015

July 7, 2015

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all: We've started planning for Software Freedom Day in both Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo. Our assumption is that SFD will be on 19 September 2015. It's somewhat important to pin it down; we're looking for venues and are putting out calls for presentations. Can someone (Frederic? Pockey?) update the main page on http://softwarefreedomday.org to have the correct date? I see Frederic has already updated the wiki for 2015, but there's no actual date yet... http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/ For what it's worth, in Kitchener-Waterloo the date for Software Freedom Day is always full of other events like Medieval Fair, Maker Expo, Open Doors, Tiger Moths Fly-in, &c. So in KW we'll probably hold SFD a week later, on 26 September (and then I'll be able to attend in both Toronto *and* KW :-) ).
