German countdown
by Frederic Muller - DFF Aug. 29, 2016

Aug. 29, 2016

Hi! I've noticed Edgar from the FSFE has edited the text for the German countdown but the graphics haven't been modified since 2013. We have actually slightly updated the design this year but to get it working you can either update: 01.png, 00.png and 00here.png which have the date of the event of this year and the coming year. You can find the original SVG file here http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/CountDown/de?action=AttachFile&do=get&ta… and then you'll have to upload them there: http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/CountDown/de?action=AttachFile Else you would need to take the English countdown and do at least 23 images (as SFD is in 21 days roughly). The English image file is here: http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/CountDown/en?action=AttachFile&do=get&ta… I can activate it now as it will only show the wrong images the day before SFD but I would just like to be sure it is happening ;-) If you go for the new design of course generating the 99 files will be nice for next year. We will also have to remove the old ones before you can upload the new ones. Just let us know. Thank you. Fred

Other languages for SFD Countdown
by Frederic Muller - DFF Aug. 28, 2016

Aug. 28, 2016

Hi! As you have read over the past few days we have localized the countdown in 3 additional languages, namely Chinese, French and German. I have just emailed the Spanish, Portuguese and Russian SFD mailing list to gather some volunteers for those languages. We have had other languages translated in the past and I was wondering if we still had someone willing to help us out on those. The languages I have on the wiki are: - Catalan - Serbian Cyrillic - Serbian Latin - Ukrainian - Estonian - Persian - Arabic - Greek If anyone has a bit of free time on their hands, it would be nice to help out. Just let us know whether you decide to just modify the last 3 png(s) or the whole countdown based on the new design (or your wiki name so we can add you to the list of people who can delete files in the countdown section). Full documentation for CountDown translation is available here: http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/CountDown Thank you very much. Fred

Call for Help on SVG Counter
by Alexandro Colorado Aug. 27, 2016

Aug. 27, 2016

Hello I put a Call for help on the FB group and page of the SFD, would be nice if I can get it reposted as SFD on FB, twitter and Identi.ca. I am sure much more people will pay attention to the call, if it comes from the official SFD account. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/jzarecta/posts/10152100110451978 http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/CountDown Regards. -- Alexandro Colorado Apache OpenOffice Contributor http://www.openoffice.org

SFD wiki is live
by Frederic Muller - DFF Aug. 26, 2016

Aug. 26, 2016

Hi! The wiki is finally live and ready to add your teams in any language (already supported). The Artwork page, the localization of fixed pages and a few other things are still being updated. Of course for languages we do not speak, if you think you can make those minor modifications that would be great. Those are in no particular order: - Spanish - Portuguese - Russian - Sinhala Then there are some random pages including the FrontPage which seems to have some translation in Hindi and Korean. And registration should also follow shortly. Thank you all for your patience. Fred

Upload images locally
by Frederic Muller - DFF Aug. 26, 2016

Aug. 26, 2016

Hi! I've noticed a few of SFD organizers tend to link images from outside of our domain. The problem with that is that sometimes URLs change or sites just disappear. I would recommend to upload the images locally and link them as per the wiki syntax {{attachment:image_name.jpg}}. Thank you not to upload 10MiB images but mainly since our hosting is sponsored by Linode we do not really have size constraint. We've also modified the css to have attached images responsive so they'll always scale to the screen width whatever the size of viewers' devices. That was missing from the default theme. You can check http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/2016/Colombia/Cartagena for an example. Should you find out other non responsive parts please let us know and we'll try to fix it. Thank you very much. Fred

English countdown available!
by Frederic Muller - DFF Aug. 18, 2016

Aug. 18, 2016

Hi! So the countdown is available. We've updated the design (and all the svg files on the wiki) so if anybody wants to provide a translation in their language just to go http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/CountDown and edit (or create) the page in your language. The new svg file in English is here: http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/CountDown/en?action=AttachFile&do=get&ta… And to use the countdown just insert in your website or your blog! Thank you very much! Fred ps: any question please ask :-)
