new TTCS OSSWIN DVD v1.5, a collection of Free and Open Source Software for Windows available for download

The Trinidad and Tobago Computer Society is pleased to announce the release of the TTCS OSSWIN DVD v1.5, a collection of the latest version of Free and Open Source Software for Microsoft Windows (XP/Vista/7/8) and available for download. The collection features a web based interface for browsing programs organised into several categories: Desktop Applications, Educational, Games, Graphics, Internet, Server, Sound and Video and Utilities. There were several changes for version 1.5, with 6 new programs added: Money Manager EX, Graph, Fenix, Audacious, Virtualbox, VeraCrypt and 3 programs removed: Gribsi, Graphcalc, Musikcube and updates for many programs. This release also includes several installers created for Neverball, VirtualDub and Audacious to allow for easier installation (and uninstallation) for Windows users. [OT] identi.ca connectivity problem

Hi! We have been unable to connect to identi.ca for a few weeks, we just get denied when logging in with a super clear error message saying "An error occurred." . We tried to recover the password in case that was the problem but never get any email and we couldn't find a place to report the issue neither (nor an idea of what the problem could be). So I was wondering if someone had more information which we could use to recover our account. Thanks a lot. Fred

Dear all, We would like to let you know (just in case you've missed it) that Google is running again Google Code-in this year and the event will start on December 1st. Google Code-in is a global online contest introducing 13-17 year old pre-university students to open source software development. Over the last 4 years Google had 1575 students from 78 countries complete tasks in the contest. Google hopes to expand the program this year and would appreciate your help and that of the schools in your association to spread the word to students around the globe and motivate them to take part in it. Although it seemed attendance was a bit lower this year (too many other events in KW happening at the same time!), I thought our Software Freedom Day celebration went quite well. There were a lot of volunteers on hand: for set up, to provide directions and support to visitors, help the speakers keep on time, and clean up afterwards. Not to mention those who created, folded and distributed flyers and posters in the weeks leading up to SFD! Many thanx to everyone! We had an ambitious program this year - four simultaneous streams: Presentations, workshops, a Film Festival and an Installfest. Naturally, this made it impossible for one person to do everything.
