how to questions
by LM July 31, 2017

July 31, 2017

Our local Linux Users Group used to participate ever year in Software Freedom Day. I've volunteered at the local event several times and done publicity for it. Unfortunately, our users group disbanded last year. I really miss celebrating SFD and showing others what interesting Open Source software is available to them. No other groups in our area participated in Software Freedom Day last year. I decided to try to run a Software Freedom Day event of my own this year and see if any former Linux Users Group members would be willing to help out. I've contacted our local library to reserve a room. Would like to know how to get the event added to the SFD event map for 2017. Is there anything I need to do in coordination with the SFD web site/project to make our event official? Any suggestions for holding a successful event would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Culture Freedom Day
by Bob Jonkman April 24, 2017

April 24, 2017

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi everyone: According to Wikipedia[1], Culture Freedom Day is on Saturday, 20 May 2017. Is the Digital Freedom Foundation organizing something? I didn't see anything on the http://www.digitalfreedomfoundation.org/ website, but Wikipedia says CFD is a DFF intiative, so it must be true :-) Also, are there separate lists for the different Freedom Days? I'm posting this to the SFD list, but perhaps there's a better place. - --Bob, who will also throw in a quick plug for Document Freedom Day on Wednesday, 26 April 2017 [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture_Freedom_Day - -- Bob Jonkman <bjonkman(a)sobac.com> Phone: +1-519-635-9413 SOBAC Microcomputer Services http://sobac.com/sobac/ Software --- Office & Business Automation --- Consulting GnuPG Fngrprnt:04F7 742B 8F54 C40A E115 26C2 B912 89B0 D2CC E5EA -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2 Comment: Ensure confidentiality, authenticity, non-repudiability iEYEARECAAYFAlj8+vAACgkQuRKJsNLM5epruQCfWkdxC7rg98nVC8E6Vhk9LpiN LakAoLQDs1h16HSxT6LyW7eTELVbdjm1 =LYVG -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Help requested with caff / signing keys
by Jimmy PIERRE Feb. 10, 2017

Feb. 10, 2017

Greetings, Any of you guys know caff quite well please? I have attended a keysigning party last week end in Belgium (FOSDEM) and I have been advised to use caff to sign the public keys. I do not want to spam the group with my .caffrc file, so if you want to help me, please contact me via PM if at all possible. I have not launched caff yet, but I need someone to check my .caffrc file and tell me what they think, for instance, I use smtp1.servage.net as smtp server. Will that work on your opinion? In a nutshell, this is an opportunity to couple keysigning with SFD this year and years to come :) Many thanks in anticipation, Sincerely; Jimmy -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- pub 2048R/48AE8D53 2017-01-25 Key fingerprint = BD91 56F6 44B5 E7C6 20EE 4F71 C85E 9EF3 48AE 8D53 uid Jimmy Pierre (NUI) <jpierre(a)nui.fr> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- pub 2048R/BE20D27A 2017-01-25 Key fingerprint = 6233 2383 C9A2 D315 CA6B E20B 8518 7E4C BE20 D27A uid Jimmy Pierre (cisware) <jpierre(a)cisware.com> --------------

Hi, I was visiting http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/ (what, no SSL?) and I got startled by the date mentioning Education Freedom Day. It's stated on the site that it would be on 17 March. However, that's a friday. It should be 18 March. ;) Greetings, Rutger

TTCS OSSWIN v1.60, compilation of Free and Open Source Software for Windows
by Dev Anand Teelucksingh Oct. 13, 2016

Oct. 13, 2016

As a FYI, The Trinidad and Tobago Computer Society is pleased to announce the release of the TTCS OSSWIN v1.60, a collection of the latest version of Free and Open Source Software for Microsoft Windows (10/8/7/Vista/XP) for download. The name change from TTCS OSSWIN DVD to TTCS OSSWIN was done to reflect that whilst the collection can (for now) be burned on a DVD, DVDs are becoming less prevalent on many modern Windows computers and that TTCS OSSWIN can be extracted to the hard drive or to USB flash drives. The TTCS OSSWIN collection features a web based interface for browsing programs organised into several categories: Desktop Applications, Educational, Games, Graphics, Internet, Server, Sound and Video and Utilities. Lots of software updates for TTCS OSSWIN v1.60, including LibreOffice 5.2.1, Mozilla Firefox 48.0.2, Virtualbox 5.1.6 and more. See the changelog for more details. Visit the TTCS OSSWIN page at http://www.cs.tt/osswin for more details and to download the collection as an ISO file for burning onto a DVD or extracting to your harddrive or USB storage device. SFD reports or summaries
by Frederic Muller - DFF Oct. 12, 2016

Oct. 12, 2016

Dear all, We're seeing a few organizing teams uploading reports of their events on the wiki. Maybe we could actually publish them under blog post format on DFF website. We would need for that just text, a few photos (like 1-2 I'd say) and eventually links to partners or news reports if any. Please send those preferably off the list to me, or if you prefer in the list. We will publish those over the coming few weeks not all at once in mo specific order. Thank you very much. Fred ps: and yes, the reports should be in English.
