Small surprise
by Jurgen Gaeremyn Sept. 5, 2024

Sept. 5, 2024

Heya all, Two more weeks and it's happening! Software Freedom Day 2024! Thanks to an anonymous sponsor, we were able to print a small batch of stickers... the first 25 teams that registered were offered a small batch. The stickers went on the mail about 12 hours ago... Do you also want to hand out stickers? Do you want more stickers? Do you want them bigger or smaller? Do you want localized stickers? Easy! Take our design, localize it in Inkscape and hand the result to a local print shop. They look great on transparent plastic. Share your results on the socials using #SoftwareFreedomDay <https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/softwarefreedomday?__eep__=6&__cft__[0]=AZ…> Get your design file here: https://digitalfreedoms.org/en/sfd/blog/sfd-stickers <https://digitalfreedoms.org/en/sfd/blog/sfd-stickers> Looking forward to see all your photo's, testimonials and videos in our inbox or socials! Greetings, Jurgen P.S. It rewards to sign up early! Too late for the surprise this year? Be sure to be on time next year!

Help us get the word out about Software Freedom Day
by LM Aug. 6, 2024

Aug. 6, 2024

Are you hosting or involved in a local Software Freedom Day event? We're trying to reach people who aren't familiar with Free and Open Source software and encourage them to visit a local Software Freedom Day event. With that in mind, we're putting together some short articles on FLOSS that we hope will be of interest to the general public. If you're going to be discussing a particular aspect of FLOSS at your SFD event such as your favorite office suites or graphics editors or games, etc, let us know. We'd like to plug some of the Software Freedom Day events that will be discussing topics related to the articles. Also, if you want to put together a short article talking about topics at your event or your event or Free Software in general, feel free to send it to me and I'll see that it's added to the DFF social media pages. If you think of other information you'd like us to share on the DFF site or the DFF social media pages, please let me know. Thanks. Have a wonderful Software Freedom Day 2024.

We'll see if a mild form of collaborative editing is now possible on the NextCloud instance (meeting notes maintained by members not talking) So if you're curious to join this meeting - be it for the short test or for the whole meeting - please come over to https://call.trom.tf/DigitalFreedomFoundation (user/pass = tromcall) at 16:30 CET on Tuesday August 6th. Software Freedom Day update
by Jurgen Gaeremyn July 30, 2024

July 30, 2024

Heya all, Last year this time, we had 8 events on the map. This year, we already have 18 events! Brazil is taking a flying start with 3 events right away! (see the map on the website for the most recent version, below is a screenshot) We have a very inspiring testimony <https://digitalfreedoms.org/en/sfd/blog/love-learning-and-libre-a-decade-of…> from Angélica M. Diaz Burgos from the SFD team at Bogota, Colombia. If you'd like to write about your SFD history... feel free to send me a message and we'll add it to the site. How's your preparations going? Are you trying out new things? I'm really curious, what things worked really great during previous events? System 76 is going an event in their factory, and they'll have things like a Software Freedom Bingo and a FOSS trivia quiz. Sounds like a lot of fun. Any tips or suggestions for new teams for what they really SHOULD do? If you have photographs to accompany it, that would even be cooler! Greetings, Jurgen

Would you or someone you know be interested in helping us run the FSF booth at Portland State University? Doing so would involve face-to-face advocacy on behalf of free software, soliciting and accepting donations for the FSF, and selling FSF merchandise -- all to raise awareness and funds that power our campaigns. If you or a friend could help us, please let us know by replying to this email by Thursday, July 18. Please let us know if you would be able and willing to volunteer your time. Conference booths are one of the most important ways we introduce new people to free software, GNU, and the FSF! If anyone's interested in an Open Source podcast or possibly being a guest on a podcast, this was mentioned on the Teaching Open Source mailing list: https://medium.com/open-source-science-initiative/the-first-episode-of-anot… If anyone can help volunteer to get the word out about Software Freedom Day by offering to be a guest on a podcast and speaking about their SFD experiences, that would be greatly appreciated. If you have any other ideas on how to get the word out about Software Freedom Day, please let us know on the mailing list. Thank you.
