Instructive info with the easiest of learning curves. Where are the simplest easiest to understand instructive materials for neophytes moving to GNU/Linux. Especially weblinks cautious about the use of jargon or explain carefully any jargon used ! For example avoiding the jargon term distros, jargon not used by consumers generally. Meaningful advocating. Advocating is a lot easier and meaningful if it includes how do I setup GNU/Linux now?...

I'm grateful for your interest. a) Shoulder surfing How about some shoulder surfing videos?... you go to youtube, trying to run that other format is problematical, and at youtube you watch people's screens as they do various things with a GNU/Linux setup. b) Grandparents How about instructive information for grandparents?... who may not have yet developed good coordination even moving a cursor around or need a reminder how to turn on the machine.

We had two tables in the 600 block of Caroline Street in old town Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA from 0900 to about 1545 (UTC−04). We talked with numerous people who'd never heard of Linux, provided them a comparison chart of proprietary applications and their FOSS counterparts, passed out OpenDisc DVDs with a list of several of the apps on it, as well as Fedora and Ubuntu live DVDs. There was a Linux laptop running a looped OpenOffice.org presentation telling of the advantages of FOSS, and a Mac PowerBook G4 running Yellow Dog Linux playing Creative Commons music in Rhythm Box; one visitor asked to turn up the volume so he could hear the music better. Several people said they'd stop by our follow-up InstallFest next Saturday, September 25th, to get Linux installed on their computers. It was a festive event and our whole group had a great time knowing this was taking place all over the world. A great day all around. Dear all, We've posted a blog post at http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/en/blog/139-6-years-of-sfd-maps which looks at the evolution of the numbers of SFD teams over the years. There are some important points addressed in the post and we would like to hear from you on the subject. you can either comment directly at the bottom of the article or reply on sfd-discuss list. I know you're all busy with the preparations, looking at my web counter I see I have 20h and 10min left to SFD (the counter is local now, and calculating SFD at Sept. 18th 9am).
