Hi all, Software Freedom International will be doing a press release early next week about SFD 2008 (as will several of our sponsors). I wanted to give the community a chance to: a) post to the list any amazing preparations, or expectations for the event. Any big names participating, or Government announcements? b) give everyone a chance to update their event pages before we get some press. We already are seeing a much greater build up of website interest this year than last year, and it looks like we may hit 500 teams this year, with over 400 already registered and many more expected! c) do your own press releases. We are almost 2 weeks out, so get out to the local radio, newspapers, and other media for the final build up of interest and participation! Thanks all and happy planning! Software Freedom Day Cleveland Conference

Howdy Yall! I have waited to say too much until we had some things in place. But our plans for Software Freedom Day Cleveland are moving along. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we had to set the date much later than the rest of yall will be celebrating. But we have a great team on board to help us make a knock out conference. We are shooting for an attendance of about 200 to 250 including volunteers for an all day conference. We've already got sponsors signing on and more work is being done to encourage more sponsorship. We're definitely looking for speakers if you would be interested. We will have more posted on this shortly. Change event coordinates?

Hello everyone, When I registered our team, we did not know where exactly our event will take place, so I set the coordinates in this Google Maps applet to the center of our city. Now that we know the exact location I would like to correct this. How do I do that, or whom do I have to contact? Thanks in advance! New resources, planet and other exciting SFD news

Hi all, Just a few tidbits for everyone's general interest: * We now have a load of new resources up on the front page of SFD for teams http://softwarefreedomday.org/ * We've launched the SFD planet and are rapidly having new rss feeds sent to us. Please send us your blog/news feeds that are relevant to software freedom asap! http://planet.softwarefreedomday.org/ * We've hit the 500 teams mark! Granted there are a few replications, but we have hit our target with a week to go! So much freedom! * We are launching a reporting form for teams to fill in by the end of the week, which is also where they will submit their competition entries. Ubuntu LoCo, OLPC, and electronics hackers join for SFD

Greetings from Brain-Washington, DC. Pia suggested I forward my message on to this list, and so, without further ado: This will be the Ubuntu DC LoCo's fourth year doing SFD (albeit not exactly on the right day), and the third at the Takoma Park Folk Festival. In addition to being the team contact for the Ubuntu DC LoCo, I'm also involved with the OLPC Learning Club DC, and HacDC -- a hardware/electronics hacking group with many Free Software advocates. I invited them to join us at the Takoma Park Folk Festival. So, this year, there will be three tech tables instead of just one.
