Hi guys! SFD is very near and we wanted to send you all our thanks for going out and talking about Free and Open SourceSoftware to the people of your community. A lot of you have been involved in SFD since the early days and it is really nice for me to feel I know you (well I actually simply recognize an email address and sometimes we do have exchanged a few messages as well). For the new organizers let me tell you that SFD is like a big worldwide family where we meet every year during a short and intense period of time and make the best of it. Hopefully you will quickly feel at ease among us and come back next year to make another colorful and exciting SFD event in your area. So regardless of your background and experience in running SFD events we hope you will have as much fun and success tomorrow (some of you will celebrate SFD in a few days or weeks, this applies too of course). The SFI board will all be thinking of you and looking forward to seeing all the photos, videos and reading the reports you'll be submitting. Remember that the hash tag is #softwarefreedomday and we will be announcing the 2012 competition terms and prizes very soon. Thank you again and happy SFD! Fred

SFD team packs 2012 have been shipped

Dear all, As you may know that all the SFD team packs have been shipped. Each team pack includes tshirts, balloons, stickers, a banner, DVDs and t-shirt labels. There is a how-to for the t-shirt labels, please refer to http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/TshirtLabels You may also apply these labels to any cloth e.g. table cloth. We have done our best to send the same pack to all teams and hopefully you should get them on time for your event. However each year we always have delayed or lost packages, which are really out of our control. On the bright side, since the goodies are not year specific you can always use them later in the year or for SFD 2013 if you get them late. All the best to your SFD preparation! Regards, Pockey

Hi! Most likely we will be running a file system check in the coming hours (maybe 2/3 hours from now, that means 14UTC or after) and need to take the server down for that. Debian events at Software Freedom Day

Hi all SFDers :) During the upcoming SFD celebrations, supporters of the Debian project will be joining the parties worldwide with Debian-related talks/events. For example, talks by Debian Developers will be held in Italy and Brazil. In order to give even more press coverage to the SFD, the Debian Publicity Team is planning a press release about the SFD and Debian-related topics. We'd like to be notified about any such events that is going to happen during your local SFD, and receive info about it! The goal is to have a raw collection of Debian-events for a press release on our site shortly before the SFD (hopefully)... SFD server issues

Hi! We're having trouble with our web server which just hung again. It's the 3rd time in a bit more than 24h. The mailing lists are on a different machine so communication can't be affected at least. At this stage I am a bit at loss on how to troubleshoot the issue. 2 reboots ago the machine stayed up for less than an hour, and the last restart for about 3 hours. It seems to be a new problem though nothing new has been installed, reconfigured. I'm thinking to create a new VPS instance and move the Joomla! sites there, while keeping moinmoin instances on the current server. As far as I know there is nothing else running on the box. Any advice is of course welcome. Thank you all for your patience. Fred
