Publicity Officer required for Software Freedom International

Hi SFD'ers, Software Freedom International (SFI), the organisation behind Software Freedom Day, is gearing up for SFD 2009 and is currently seeking the services of a Publicity Officer. The position offers the opportunity to serve a community of over 500 team leaders and thousands more software freedom enthusiasts, as well as gain exposure and experience in developing the public profile of Software Freedom Day. Like all positions at SFI, this is a voluntary position with no remuneration apart from reimbursement of approved costs. SFI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit company registered in New Hampshire, USA. We have been organising SFD since 2004 and have supported events in over 90 countries since then. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.... The chosen candidate may be appointed to the board of SFI, but in any case will be required to join in SFI's regular board meetings (which take place every 1-2 weeks via IRC or telephone). The specific responsibilities of the role are: * Manage all written publicity materials * Coordinate the SFD competition * Arrange an editorial team to develop the SFD website * Plan and manage the translation of materials into other languages * Draw up and execute a plan for promoting SFD through the web, media and other channels. The ideal candidate will have an excellent command of English and a demonstrated ability to write creative and targeted copy for press releases. They will work alongside the SFI team, and particularly with the technical director, media & design officer and the sponsorship officer. Particular sensitivity to the requirements of SFD teams - who operate across many time zones, in varying socio-economic and cultural environments, and in dozens of languages - will be essential. The successful candidate will be invited to work with SFI until December 2009 and possibly beyond that. HOW TO LET US KNOW THAT YOU'RE INTERESTED... Artwork for 2009

Hi! It's still a long year before the next Software Freedom Day, but for viral marketing purposes it would be nice to have some artwork for the 19th of september 2009. Especially the software freedom day 09-logo would be nice to have available, in either SVG or high resolution format for printing. For examples of web banners for this years event, see http://softwarefreedomday.se/2008/08/16/28/ We'll try for next year to get these things out sooner, to be able to anchor the event in organizations and institutions all over Sweden. For that, we need to produce posters and pamphlets with the new logo, so that people are able to download and print them. And a new (good looking) website. On the following SFD site there is a nice leaflet which I and my colleagues translated to polish some time ago. http://softwarefreedomday.org/Artwork Double-folded 'What is Open Source' leaflet: Color background .pdf source files or White background (suitible for b/w photocopying) .pdf source files. Uses mgopen modata font. I'd like to know one thing about this leaflet: who is the original author and what is the license of this leaflet? I need this information to reproduce my translation in large quantities. Hi SFD'ers, We have extended the deadline for competition entries by one week - the new deadline is 27 October 2008. A quick reminder: we have an event reporting webpage ( http://cgi.softwarefreedomday.org/event_report.html) where team leaders can tell us about their event, and by ticking a box you can enter your team report for consideration in our SFD competition. If your SFD event is judged to be one of the top events, we will send you a pair of OLPC laptops for your efforts! Remember, email reports sent to the mailing list don't count, you'll need to enter the information on the webpage. If you have any questions, please email us at info(a)sf-day.org. The information you submit with your competition entry will be used to help us work out how far Software Freedom Day has come since the first celebration in 2004, and to let our partners and team leaders know how we're performing. Hi fellow SFD'lers, Just had to find out, thatthe T-Shirts colorate your laundry when you wash them the first time. I am a bit pissed about this fact. I think next time I would recommend to first look at the shirts before spreading them over the world.
