SFD online store is up! Tshirts and TOCD packs
by Pia Waugh July 10, 2007

July 10, 2007

Hi everyone! As you all know, all teams that register prior to July 31st get some tasty SFD schwag to help make their events rock. We also now have the online store ready to go for teams that want to purchase additional tshirts or The Open CD packs! Remember, teams are also able to send a request for special consideration to the SFI Board to get extra goodies for free if they are unable to purchase more goodies but have a good case. So, the short of it is we're really pleased to announce our online store is ready to go! Tshirts are on there for AUD$30 but teams get them for AUD$15 each (AUD$15 = ~USD$12.50), and for the first time we also have The Open CD Packs (with 5 CDs) available for $25 ($12.50 for teams) so please ensure when you place any team orders that you tick the "Gift Voucher" box once you confirm your order which will apply the 50% discount before paying. The dicount code is: sfdt3@ms Don't worry about the "Redeem" button, it'll apply once you click Continue. Also, _ensure_ you also tick the "Comments" section of your order and add the size(s) you'd like and which team you are ordering for so we can bundle the new goodies in with your free SFD Team Pack! We'll then label the additional goodies such that you can determine who ordered more and which are the free schwag. The team discount only applies till 31st July, so get in quick! Payment options include Paypal (includes Visa, Mastercard and other credit options), Cheque and Bank transfers, although we don't recommend the bank transfers expect for large orders due to the SWIFT fees (unless you are in the US). Don't worry, you don't have to have a Paypal account to participate. If anyone has issues with the online store, please email info at softwarefreedomday.org Cheers, Pia -- Software Freedom Day http://softwarefreedomday.org/

What does "Software Freedom" mean?
by Marcelo July 10, 2007

July 10, 2007

Hi, we are still trying to understand how to translate "Software Freedom Day" to Spanish, so let me ask another question: What does "Software Freedom" mean or refer to? I understand "Free Software", I'm just not sure how that's different from "Software Freedom", and if it's the same thing, why isn't the event called "Free Software Day" then? (providing an answer to that question would help a lot with translating it properly) Thanks! Marcelo

Nombre del evento en español / Event name in spanish
by Leo Arias F. July 8, 2007

July 8, 2007

Pura vida ******* Good night, This message is intended to spanish speaking teams. On our group (Costa Rica), we were wondering which was the official event name in spanish. We saw that some teams translated it as Día de la Libertad del Software, but we prefer to ask before translating logos and press releases, and then upload them to the page. Talking about that, if somebody has done some of those translations, we would appreciate if you share them with us. Pura vida -- Leo Arias http://elopio.ticoblogger.com

Re: [SFD-discuss] Nombre del evento en español / Event name in spanish
by Marcelo July 8, 2007

> Bueno pues aca en Guatemala lo tenemos como el Dia el Software Libre [translation: here in Guatemala we use Free Software Day] A eso se debe nuestra consulta, pues "Dia del Software Libre" se traduce de vuelta al inglés como "Free Software Day" y no como "Software Freedom Day". [translation: that's the reason for our question, because "Dia del Software Libre" translates back to English as "Free Software Day" and not as "Software Freedom Day".] ¡Gracias! Marcelo

From Hanoi and wondering from the rest of asia
by David Tremblay July 4, 2007

July 4, 2007

It's been 4 years now we started to do the SFD in Ha Noi (Viet Nam) while looking at http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/map/2007 We started wondering why there's so few team in asia. If you have friends (or friends of friends) that live in the region. You should ring them and ask them to do something. I'm especially thinking of China who should have at least 2 teams. If you check more there's no team in north africa and none in Brazil. If you have friends there, ring them -- David Tremblay Information Technology for development analyst www.ngocentre.org.vn System Administrator Oxfam Québec *emails:* david(a)ngowiki.net // david(a)ngocentre.org.vn *Phones:* Mobile : 84-4-0912 474 995 SIP : 1-747-004-8537 skype : ict4ngo *Webs:* www.oxfam.qc.ca // http://blog.ngowiki.net // www.hanoilug.org *Messaging* jabber network :ict4ngo@jabber.org

110 teams registered!
by Pia Waugh July 4, 2007

July 4, 2007

Hi all, we now have over 110 teams already registered for SFD 2007! This is particularly exciting as we are still 2 1/2 months out. We'll be putting out a press release about SFD in the coming week, so if any teams want to polish up their pages for mass consumption, or provide us with some quotes for the PR that would be great! Rock on for SFD 2007! Cheers, Pia -- Software Freedom Day http://softwarefreedomday.org/

Re: [SFD-discuss] Two regional teams from one the same region

Thanks all for your advice. Shehab ----- Original Message ---- From: Russell John <russell(a)linux.org.bd> To: Open discussions about SFD <sfd-discuss(a)sf-day.org> Sent: Monday, June 25, 2007 11:28:04 PM Subject: Re: [SFD-discuss] Two regional teams from one the same region Dear Shehab, It's great to know that you want to be a part of SFD '08. Now that you've shown your interest (thanks!), you've got two options: 1) Joining our team: We're the same team that organised SFD '05 and '06, and we're ready to rock again. If you're an individual or an organisation interested in celebrating SFD, then please get in touch with us at <sfd AT linux.org.bd>. Someone will get in touch with you with further details. We're a very large Linux Users Group and our members are scattered all over the country. No matter where you're located, and we can get together to organise an event. 2) Form your own team: If you want to organise an event independently, you can go ahead. In that case, we'll not be covering your event details on our press release, and we won't be able to send you our publications, t-shirts, and other promotional materials. However, we can provide you guidelines and supports that you might need. Hi, Thanks for your quick answer. For example, there is already a regional team for the country, Bangladesh (http://softwarefreedomday.org/teams/asia/bangladesh?action=show&redirect=te…) Is it possible to create a new regional team for Bangladesh or join the team as a partner?
