Howdy Yall! I have waited to say too much until we had some things in place. But our plans for Software Freedom Day Cleveland are moving along. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we had to set the date much later than the rest of yall will be celebrating. But we have a great team on board to help us make a knock out conference. We are shooting for an attendance of about 200 to 250 including volunteers for an all day conference. We've already got sponsors signing on and more work is being done to encourage more sponsorship. We're definitely looking for speakers if you would be interested. We will have more posted on this shortly. Change event coordinates?

Hello everyone, When I registered our team, we did not know where exactly our event will take place, so I set the coordinates in this Google Maps applet to the center of our city. Now that we know the exact location I would like to correct this. How do I do that, or whom do I have to contact? Thanks in advance! Hi all, Just a few tidbits for everyone's general interest: * We now have a load of new resources up on the front page of SFD for teams http://softwarefreedomday.org/ * We've launched the SFD planet and are rapidly having new rss feeds sent to us. Granted there are a few replications, but we have hit our target with a week to go! So much freedom! * We are launching a reporting form for teams to fill in by the end of the week, which is also where they will submit their competition entries. Ubuntu LoCo, OLPC, and electronics hackers join for SFD

Greetings from Brain-Washington, DC. Pia suggested I forward my message on to this list, and so, without further ado: This will be the Ubuntu DC LoCo's fourth year doing SFD (albeit not exactly on the right day), and the third at the Takoma Park Folk Festival. In addition to being the team contact for the Ubuntu DC LoCo, I'm also involved with the OLPC Learning Club DC, and HacDC -- a hardware/electronics hacking group with many Free Software advocates. I invited them to join us at the Takoma Park Folk Festival. So, this year, there will be three tech tables instead of just one. Celebrated SFD today to coincide with Teacher's Day

Hi all, We decided to celebrate SFD today to co-incide with Teacher's Day .While one reason was that both the events talk so much about freedom and sharing, few others which were related to managing things (in short couldn't help it) It was a small low-profile event with about 50-60 odd people attending and having a good time. I would be putting up a detailed blog post on the same with pictures and everything in couple of days. Think about schools on the day

Hi If we accept that schools are one of the key mechanisms for change in society, then the idea of helping schools to think about the opportunities that FOSS can offer is a worthy pursuit. If you are looking for an activity for your team on the day then possibly doing something in the education arena might be a go - make a movie or some sort of presentation and publish it - collate resources (we have started something on the SFD website that you could contribute to) - invite teachers from local schools to your event - ? Press release of the SFD 2008 in Rosario, Argentina. -------------------------------------------------------------------- First promotion Day of Free Software for the Community * September 20 | 9.30 AM * CMD Centro "Antonio Berni", Wheelwright 1486, Rosario (Argentina) Under the 5th Software Freedom Day [0], the Municipality of Rosario supports this celebration world with the completion of the event Rosario Software Libre v1.0 [1] the next September 20 from 9.30 AM in the CMD Centro "Antonio Berni", Wheelwright 1486, Rosario (Argentina). The GNU/Linux User Group of Rosario (LUGRO) [2] and the New Technologies Asociation (ANT - Asociación de Nuevas Tecnologías [3]) we'll be supporting the event and organizing it together. Rosario Software libre v1.0 is addressed to all those who wish to learn more about free software, install it and use it on their computers in terms of legality, preserving the value of freedom. SFD08 Best Event Competition
