If you don't see an event near you, but would like one, join us in brainstorming some ideas of bringing Software Freedom Day 2025 to your area. Are there local groups in your area that would be interested in participating in Software Freedom Day 2025? How can we reach more people and invite them to celebrate with us? Do you have a local library or school where you could hold an event and introduce FLOSS to the public? Do you have tech groups in your area that could discuss Free, Libre and Open Source software topics during a meeting? Please feel free to share event brainstorming and organizing tips and ideas here or on Matrix in the #SoftwareFreedomDay channel.

Help us grow Software Freedom Day – Call for new board members

Hi all, Over the past two years, you may have noticed a renewed energy around Software Freedom Day and, to a lesser extent, our other Digital Freedom Foundation events. This has been a deliberate effort — one we’re proud of, but we also know it’s just the beginning. To keep the momentum going (and to grow sustainably), we’re looking for a few extra hands to help with coordination — and possibly to join the board of the Digital Freedom Foundation. We believe that healthy growth means bringing in new voices regularly. By expanding the board, we: * Prevent burnout for existing members * Avoid consolidating too much influence in one place * Ensure smoother transitions when people eventually step down * Encourage fresh ideas and perspectives * Maintain continuity for our community and sponsors * Build resilience and avoid a situation where things grind to a halt due to lack of volunteers We’re especially interested in people who are passionate about software freedom, have a global outlook, and are willing to commit some time to helping the movement thrive. Personally, I’m aiming to reduce my active role by the end of 2025 — but I will only do so if we’ve successfully welcomed and onboarded new board members. So consider this both an open invitation and a gentle call for succession planning. If you’re curious, interested, or just want to talk more about what it would involve, don’t hesitate to reach out. The It's FOSS community bulletin board mentioned this web site: https://endof10.org/ They're organizing events all over the world and trying to get groups together to help people with computers that can't upgrade to Windows 11 to install a Linux operating system. This might be a great opportunity to partner with one of these groups and have an install fest at a local Software Freedom Day celebration.
