Greetings. Do you love creating with Free,Libre, Open Source Software (FLOSS)? Here’s your chance to show the world what digital freedom looks like: help us design the official Software Freedom Day (SFD) 2025 mascot--built entirely with FLOSS tools and released under CC BY-SA 4.0 or CC BY 4.0. Whether you model in Blender or paint in Krita, 2-D or 3-D is welcome. --- What’s in it for you? --- Huion is back with fantastic prizes for the top entries: 1 - Kamvas Pro 16 (4K) pen-display 2 - Kamvas Pro 12 pen-display 3 - 2 × Inspiroy Frego M tablets --- How to take part --- 1. Create your mascot in any FLOSS graphics tool (Krita, GIMP, Inkscape, Blender, MyPaint, ...). 2. Add a short back-story (≤ 1000 characters). 3. Submit both the source file (.kra/.xcf/.svg/.blend…) and a web-ready image (.png/.jpg, 1920 × 1080). 4. Make sure your work is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0 or CC BY 4.0. 5. Deadline: 20 October 2025. virtual planning meeting

I contacted the Free Software Foundation to try to see if there was anyone in my area interested in helping to plan or attend a local Software Freedom Day event. They're trying to renew support for their local groups for the FSF 40 celebration. I think this would be a great opportunity to join forces between local FSF groups and SFD organizers and a chance to celebrate both occasions. The FSF is trying to revitalize local groups in my area, so I told someone at the FSF that I would host a virtual planning meeting for my local area and see if anyone would like to attend. The virtual meeting is May 31st, 2025 at 11 AM Eastern via Jitsi: https://meet.jit.si/SoftwareFreedomDay The agenda is to brainstorm ideas for SFD, FSF 40 and to talk about Free Software in general. I realize most SFD list members aren't near each other or near me, but if anyone would like to attend and brainstorm ideas or just talk about Free Software in general, you're welcome to join the virtual meeting.

It’s the perfect occasion to spotlight Free, Libre and Open Source Software in your community whether through a workshop, hackathon, installfest or celebration. Why act now? The earlier you act, the more impact you have. Lock in the date Add a recurring reminder for every third Saturday of September, so your team never misses SFD again. If the exact date doesn't work for you, pick something in the days (or weeks) leading up to or after the official date. Compare SFD to a birthday party: it doesn't necessarily need to be celebrated on the exact date.
