Dear all,
In the email:
1. Registration count update
2. Marketing efforts and tracking
3. Migration to Open Street Map in progress
4. Discussions available on mailing list and IRC channel
1. Registration count update
I just wanted to let you know what has been happening so far. With a
last kick start for registration and a whole new site for SFD we've hit
a few technical bumps but have mainly solved most of them.
Within the first 24 hours we received over 100 registration. We are now
at about 160 teams, however we mistakenly removed a good 10 teams from
China as they appeared (to someone from the team) as spam. Our
apologies, we're going through the logs and will try to re-add them
avoiding the need to re-register.
2. Marketing efforts and tracking
We are now in the phase of spreading the word out as our objective from
2010 is to reach 1000 teams worldwide, a 200 increase from last year. We
believe this is achievable but need your help. We have set up a page to
track our current submissions to various news sites, community sites,
blogs and such. You can find it here:
http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/Marketing/SitePosting
Please help us to complete the page so we don't do double submissions.
Also help us to spread the word out.
3. Migration to Open Street Map in progress
Last but not least, as promoters of Software Freedom it is important for
us to use Free Software. Since 2008 we had been looking for help to
migrate our map to Open Street Map and have finally found someone to
work on this. It is currently in the development stage but you can have
a preview here: http://www.rigacci.org/2010/map2.shtml (those are sample
data and doesn't get updated at all)
We want to extend a big thank you to Niccolo for his support. Hopefully
we should all be able to use OSM very soon.
4. Discussions available on mailing list and IRC channel
Those are the news for now. Should you have any question please do not
hesitate to subscribe to sfd-discuss (or es-planning for Spanish
speakers) if not yet done, and let us know. We are also regularly on our
SFD IRC channel on freenode (#sfd).
The mailing list page is here: http://mail.sf-day.org/lists/listinfo
Thank you for your support and happy SFD preparation.
Fred
Dear all,
Some of you might have received a second confirmation email, some of you
might have seen our maintenance page for registration confirmation: yes
we had a small glitch in the registration but all is back to normal now.
So please feel free to click on the link in the email and validate your
registration.
Again sorry for the inconveniences and thank you for your patience.
Have a great Software Freedom Day preparation.
Note that we also have a SFD IRC channel on freednode at #sfd .
Else the sfd-discuss mailing list or the Spannish planning mailing list
are good ways to talk with other SFD community members and ask for tips
and advices
List mailman about planning SFD for spanish speakers

Thanks to Peter for reminding us.
