[SFD-TC] SFD Teeshirts

Being one of the more expensive promotional items, and something volunteers are likely to keep afterwards, how about allowing teams to collect money for these teeshirts before the event and send it to SFD to cover the cost of producing additional shirts? I'm not suggesting /all/ teeshirts should be paid for, but if those of us in developed nations voluntarily covered the cost ourselves not only could they be guarenteed to receive a teeshirt but more free teeshirts would be available for volunteers in developing nations. We're paying $10 a piece for a meal at ithaca free software association meetings, over $300 total in some cases, I see no reason why our members shouldn't be paying for promotional items they'll end up owning. In fact, I'd say tack on more than cost of production/shipping, with the proceeds going for more promotional items for other cities. I'll also suggest that other groups consider printing their own colorful teeshirts branded for their local groups. If the SFD people could let us all know what color teeshirts they're planning this year we can choose contrasting or matching colors for locally-branded teeshirts. Overall, from last year, I'd say teeshirts and balloons made the biggest impact. The CDs were indeed nice but there were not nearly enough of them (we had a reserve of 750 Ubuntu CDs and used most of them as the SFD CDs ran out within an hour of our event). I'd say the tatoos could be done without. We still have a majority of them from last year, sitting unused. They were not colorful, so children didn't like them, and they could not be applied fast or easy enough to be useful for other purposes.

[SFD-TC] Team Reports

Hi all, it is awesome to hear about all the great stuff that so many teams are planning for SFD06. I have only been on the board this year, and am very excited to be helping out. I ran an event in Sydney, Australia last year and I also helped coordinate a national approach in Australia, so we ended up with 15 teams nationally participating :) Anyway, I did want to ask everyone to do a couple of things for this year to ensure that the world can appreciate your efforts and to help SFD grow. 1) Please keep the wiki up to date with your team events so that people can see your team, participate and find the event when it's on. It is also then a good link to put on your web sites, posters and emails :) 2) We have a page for Team Reports (http://softwarefreedomday.org/TeamReports) and we are starting the process of getting all the old reports linked here. Please either link old reports you've done, or once you've completed events create a page here for your team. People interested in participating look at previous team reports and at the moment they are hard to find :) If everyone can take a minute or two to link to or write reports from previous events (even just a paragraph or two and a picture) that would be fantastic! 3) Anyone that wants to update information or contribute press releases, guides, posters, or anything else, they are all very much welcome!! At long last, we're ready to accept requests for sponsored materials in 2006. Stop by http://softwarefreedomday.org/registration after you've got an event plan, and request CDs and T-shirts for your SFD celebration. You must re-register even if you've registered in 2004 or 2005. We intended this list to be low-traffic, but there are things worth discussing, and it was a natural medium to carry on such discussions. Hola a todos... El anterior año fue nuestro primer festejo oficial del dia internacional de software libre y este año no nos vamos a quedar quietos. desde ya iniciamos contactos para conseguir espacios y ponencias para ofrecer el 16 de septiembre. Quisieramos que todas las universidades de nuestra ciudad se integraran en un solo evento y tener participacion de todas. Aun no entiendo bien como manejar la pagina wiki cualquier ayuda sera bienvenida ya que esta seria nuestro medio de comunicacion con los interesados en participar.... un saludo a todos y ANIMO!!!

[SFD-TC] Kia ora from New Zealand

Hi SFD participants, I represent Interface (The Victoria University of Wellington Computer Club). Last year we held events in and around campus as well as acted as a distribution point for the Wellington region for delivery of materials (CD/T-shirts etc). We co-ordinated with members of the Wellington Linux Users group www.wellylug.org.nz and also the New Zealand Open Source Society. As well as our activities on Campus the LUG held an installfest after the day. And we used the day to promote the installfest. We had some sponsorship from Local Business which was co-ordinated through a member of the New Zealand Open Source society - http://www.nzoss.org.nz Our campus activities were very successfull and so were our activities downtown on the day itself. This year we hope to have more participation from the wider community, and be more organised. Holding seminars/presentations and workshops is something I personally would like to held facilitate. To this effect we have setup a mailing list for anyone interested in participating in Wellington region activities. [SFD-TC] Chile/ Tecnocimiento/ hello world :)

Hi all there. Last year, in Chile, coordination ended up more disperse than expected, however, Chilean people carried out some activities, esp. in the southern areas of Chile. This year, SFD should have better results, at least in Latinamerica due to the fact that more people are already aware of FLOSS concepts. Also, this year, there is an interesting Agenda regarding FLOSS events in diff. countries of Latinamerica. It is very nice to hear that ParqueSoft (Colombia) is interested in supporting SFD inititative. AFAIK, 2 people from ParqueSoft (I know they do some interesting stuff but dont know them in FLOSS areas yet, only propietary stuff) are coming to one of the events we are organizing in Chile, Feria de Educacion y Tecnologia Libre 2006 (FET Chile 2006), ion June 20th and 21st. I know it is perhaps too anticipated, but it may be a good chance to promote SFD material among participants of the FET Chile 2006.
