Recently I switched to mpv, a "more modern" mplayer, compatible with the 'old mplayer' but with a faster paced development and new features, particularly useful for streaming use cases. mpv is the new mplayer :-) https://mpv.io/ -- ~marado

Ah... The elephant on my computer is Inkscape — I absolutely love that one. But I'll pick one little gem out — not sure if it's a graphics program or not, but it most certainly is graphical and you can design with it... so here goes nothing: LeoCAD — the program to create Lego designs. I use myPaint, pinta, inkscape and gimp. I'm fan of The GIMP: for someone who doesn't do graphics or design commonly, but still has to do the casual crop, image editing or poster, I have had gimp in my toolbox for the past few decades, as a tool "easy enough" for me and more powerful than I need it to be. Spreading the word for #SFD2025

Just a quick reminder to please use hashtags #SFD2025 or #SoftwareFreedomDay2025 when sharing your Software Freedom Day posts on social media. That way, the DFF will be able to find and boost them. Also, if you have any information you want to get out, feel free to email me or contact me on the #SoftwareFreedomDay channel on Matrix. The DFF can share or like your posts on social media or share information on your events and activities on our social media accounts. I've added a blog page for all things #SFD2025: https://digitalfreedoms.org/en/sfd/blog/software-freedom-day-2025-whats-goi… Feel free to share links to your blog posts, pictures, videos or other multimedia related to Software Freedom Day and I'll add them to the page. If there are any virtual events going on that day that I find out about, I'll add them there. I'll try to update the page throughout the day on Saturday the 20th, so there will be one central place to share timely information about Software Freedom Day. Can't believe we're only 6 days away. science fiction themed Free Software

I was reading about September 8th being Star Trek day. I've been collecting links to science fiction related FOSS for a while now. Thought it would be fun to share some of them.
