Free Culture Disk

Dear all, I'd like to get started on preparing the free culture disk and fixing the few issues we had last year (file formats, better content, hosting/repository). While I believe the people helping to make it happen are still available to help, I was wondering which platform/site would be the best to host, manage and distribute the project? Our requirements are simple: - free bandwidth - discussion channels (list or web based) - easily accessible from all over the world (if possible) - large size file storage (DVD size) - version control system So suggestions and experience on the matter definitely welcome. New Year, SOPA and SFD 2011 competition

Dear all, Best wishes to all of you and time for me to send out some updates: - The SFI board has been re-elected. There is no change for 2012 which is a good thing: a little stability should help us to reach new territories :D - We are of course very concerned about SOPA and have joined the strike as many others. SFD website will come back from the dark on the 19th - Lemote, a manufacturer of MIPS computers using only free drivers has joined the rank of our sponsors for the SFD competition and will provide 3 Yeeloong netbook for the winners of 2011 (while prizes for the 2010 winners have almost all arrived, we're still tracking what's missing) - The FSF will be providing again Richard Stallman essays and Richard will sign the book himself for the 2nd year - The competition participation form is now live and can be filled here: http://www.softwarefreedomday.org/cgi-bin/report.py . Only teams who have registered their SFD events in 2011 can participate. You will also need to provide the email address used for registration. OT: Fully free colorimeter!

Hi! A slightly off season off topic post, but since it's addressing one of my itches I thought I would share. Richard Hughes has just launched a fully free (as in freedom) colorimeter project where both the hardware schematics, the firmware and the software will be released under a free license. He is looking for pre-orders (50) and ships worldwide. Initial orders will get a 20% discount making the final price at 48 GBP + shipping and packing. Discount assume you'll be contributing to the project by helping out testing the hardware and software and it might be a bit more complicated than just plug-and-play. Wikipedia presentation on SFD Munich

Hi, I could give a presentation on Wikipedia, if you need more lecturers. I'd focus on the history of Wikipedia and explain how Wikipedia works; with maybe a short presentation on the free software MediaWiki behind Wikipedia. Something between 15 and 45 minutes (whatever you like; I think 30 min including question time might be best). I need a beamer with a VGA port. Language can be German or English, whatever the audience wants. About me: I'm 21 years old, studying Computer Science and Philosophy in Munich. I have been a Wikipedia author for five years now, and an administrator for three years. I give presentations on Wikipedia to students and teachers as part of Wikimedia Deutschlands school project.
