Where are the simplest easiest to understand instructive materials for neophytes moving to GNU/Linux ?...

Instructive info with the easiest of learning curves. Where are the simplest easiest to understand instructive materials for neophytes moving to GNU/Linux. Especially weblinks cautious about the use of jargon or explain carefully any jargon used ! For example avoiding the jargon term distros, jargon not used by consumers generally. Meaningful advocating. Advocating is a lot easier and meaningful if it includes how do I setup GNU/Linux now?...

Hey... well let me rephrase this for: ;-) How much do you care about your Software Freedom: do you want to let the machine/vendor control you or do you want to be in control? How much time and effort are you willing to spend to achieve freedom? I'm just kidding and there is obviously a middle ground, but it also boils down to how much you care. Besides giving up on Software Freedom has long term negative consequences. So my advice always is, have you thought on getting new hardware. Some people don't agree with this method for some weird reason, because for other things, they see no problem into trying the same solution. Hey! That's quite a coincidence: we actually have a similar gathering in Beijing, every 1st Saturday of the month which we call Coding for Fun, but happens to be a mixed bag of GNU/Linux support and install helpdesk as well as coding and hacking on FOSS software and hardware. We've been running it in one of our member's beautiful office for the past 2 years and it has become a cornerstone of what we do.
