Please update your wiki pages!

by Cat Scratch

Hi everyone, Please please update wiki pages with event details and a contact person. I am going to try over the next week to get our National 24hr broadcaster ABC24 to do a story about teams all over the world. But so many registered teams on the map have NO details on their page. And there's no way of knowing what is actually happening. So Please! I beg you, put the basic details of your event on your wiki page, and an email address or phone number of a contact person. Add a link to your own page if you have one. It's a global event. We deserve global media coverage, but it's very very hard to get that if the details can't be found. Also - if you do have coverage - remember to update this year's Press page. We have had great coverage in past year's but not so much this year! http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/Marketing/Press Or is there another page somewhere that I am missing? -- Software Freedom Day 2010 http://sfd.org.au/melbourne A world wide celebration of State Library of Victoria Free and Open Source Software Cnr Swanston & Latrobe Sts, Melbourne and the community behind it. 11am - 4pm, Saturday 18 September Supported by Vicnet, The Victorian Government & Linux Australia

I changed the line at the top of the page from: = Fossbox = to = London City Fringe = When I saved, I got this: ## page was renamed from 2010/Europe/United Kingdom/London = London City Fringe = and I couldn't save the page properly any more - the draft is still present and correct and it previews correctly but when I save changes it loses formatting and chops off the bottom of the text (looks like a 'teaser' but without formatting). I changed the line at the top back to = Fossbox = but it's still showing the change of name line and I still can't save edits properly. I can't reload previous versions either but the link from the Team List page still works fine. I have no idea how to fix it. […] [I should probably post a detailed report in both Russian and English on our Web site, but just for now, I'm posting it to the mailing lists.] What we've done? • We've discussed the event a bit, both face to face, and via the local LUG forum, e. g.: http://altlug.ru/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=5350 • We've agreed on four computer-related reports at our event! • We've got a Web site (http://sfd.am-1.org/) and a mailing list for our event (sfd-discuss at sfd.am-1.org; not to be confused with /The/ SFD-discuss) running! • We've also got QR-codes for the respective URI's (http://sfd.am-1.org/img/) but I'm not sure whether those will be used. • We've corresponded to one of the local computer-related magazines and they're going to publish a pointer to our event! • We've got some CD's and images with some GNU/Linux distributions. (Thanks again for 20 × Ubuntu 10.4 CD's!) • We've agreed that we'll have about 30 copies of our event's poster or so, to be placed at all the local universities, and probably some schools. (The poster design is still in progress. Should be ready next Monday.) • We're also going to have some small (10 cm × 7.5 cm = 4" × 3" or so) give-aways pointing to our event. (Still in progress.) What we've not. • In order to estimate the number of participants and to know the interests of the public better, we've started a (completely optional) registration. Unfortunately, there weren't too much people registered so far. • There's still some uncertainty regarding the equipment and software that will be available at the display room. • I still hope to come up with a suitable FreeDOS kit, in order to show the folks that Free Software comes in all the sizes! (Re. the last one: I've found the EGAint game for DOS, developed in 1989, and, well, it comes under GNU GPL v1! Unfortunately, a quick Google scan didn't reveal its home page or sources.) -- FSF associate member #7257

How great is this day going to be.... Melbourne's going crazy... we're rocking this city and waking people up to what's possible with FOSS! Donna Benjamin had an interview on ABC radio this morning and has another one scheduled on Sunday, Pia Waugh's calling in to the interview as well. We've got Senator Kate Lundy coming down to speak about Gov2.0 (BIG THANKS TO PIA), Rami Olwan from Creative Commons, an Android developer to show people how to make mobile phone apps, somebody setting up a home studio plus plus plus... we are ready and really looking forward to it. Here are two of the interviews: http://www.cpod.org.au/download.php?id=4432 http://blogs.abc.net.au/files/software-freedom-day.mp3 Will be great to connect with other cities on the day. So cool! An! let us know how it work and we can definitely adapt the same concept in China or other country :) For us, here we will host the SFD in Shantou University by Linux Association on September 19, Sunday (change of date due to Nanking Massacre). The whole afternoon, we plan to have exhibitions in outdoor area to demonstrate different free software like openoffice.org, GIMP, Inkscape, Blender... and GNU/Linux systems like Debian, OpenSuse, Ubuntu, Federo...... In the evening, we will have 4-5 presentations in a hall. Fred and I will be speaking of course~ Happy SFD preparation ^^ Pockey On 09/09/2010 08:04 PM, An Nguyen wrote: > Wish us all a happy SFD!! Tomorrow (Friday, 10 Sept) is a national holiday for Hari Raya Puasa. We'll be taking a bit of a breather, then back to work on Saturday for the final week before the event. Our web site is coming along nicely, but we would like to spruce it up a bit in the next day or two. You can take a look at it here: http://softwarefreedomday.sg We plan to adapt some of the graphics from the SFD site and modify them to give us a more colorful banner. We also hope to add more exhibits. Right now we have 10 exhibitors, and we hope to get close to our limit of 20 by next week. I'm happy to receive any feedback from you about the site or the event. Here's wishing you all a fun and fulfilling SFD 2010! Regards David Rigby

Hi friends, Finally I got my CD Package without paying any money: I dont know what happend, but earlier i had told the courier guys that you have to deliver me the CD- it is for educational purpose not for any commercial use. Apparently they made some correspondence with their head office also, and finally gave me the CD package without making me pay any money Glad about that Wishes to everyone who are preparing for the Big Day ! prinson http://sfd2009.fireflies.in On 21 August 2010 05:22, A.
