No, not wipe everything. Just make sure, that any new executable gets installed in the BEGINNING of $PATH. (this is really not that surprising :-) ...) And that you don't have any old executables in ~/.dillo/ dillo searches (at least the bookmarkserver for now) first in ~/.dillo/ and then in $PATH. This can be handy for developing plugins but can be confusing, too. Thank you - the problem is solved. I completely removed using "make uninstall" then using my trusty Midnight Commander, hunted down all the remnants and directories and removed them. I re-downloaded Dillo, installed from scratch and it seems fine now. I had tried reinstalling one already to no avail, but I had not removed /.dillo before, in order to keep my bookmarks, cookies and rc file. So I guess the lesson here is - when upgrading Dillo, wipe *everything* old Dillo out completely, first. As a sidepoint, I'm glad it wasn't the kernel - kernel 2.4.x has BIG compatibility issues with my machine for some reason :-\ Thank you again. Bug 433

Hello, I am the submitter of bug #433. I just noticed the comment on the bug for me to write to this mailing list. I am a first time poster :-) The bug I am experiencing causes Dillo-0.7.1.2 to crash everytime I try to use bookmarkd. It also crashes when I try to bookmark a page or manually type dpi:/bm/ to the address line. I am using Debian woody with kernel 2.5.65 (bug noticed while running 2.5.63). The bug also appears when I boot into kernel 2.2.22. IMO, it's not a compatibility issue there. I have 128MB RAM, 30 Gig fujitsu HD, Cyrix-III, 700MHz cpu, Asus P7V mobo. Ummmm, I dunno what other info you fellas might need on this. Lemmie know. Thanks, -- Gregg

Hi there! Sometime ago someone suggested using "Valgrind" to test our memory management. After reading its docs, it looks quite worth a try! As using Valgrind to test dillo is akin to using efence (mostly userland), I thought it may be very well done while I keep working on dillo internals. Is anyone interested? Well, if someone has time, it'd be good to detect gzip & bzip2 and not to try to render them as plain text (because it makes little sense and wastes memory cache). For that purpose, a little extension to a_Misc_get_content_type_from_data (based on /etc/magic logic) is required, and also arranging the details: for instance, showing "Compressed" as file type in directory listings, and sending a message to the status bar when those files are clicked. Something like: "Sorry, I don't know how to display this file" That'd be nice for now.
