It still built with GTK+ 1.2 (Try "ldd /path/to/dillo" and see what version it's linked to.) I then tried removing the GTK+ 1.2 development package, at which point configure couldn't detect GTK at all. Kelson Vibber www.hyperborea.org

I don't have a list of his full verses, but I often visit a site that investigates urban legends. Here's what they have to say about this one: http://www.snopes.com/humor/iftrue/nostra.htm Kelson Vibber www.hyperborea.org

Is it my imagination, or is everything slower with GTK2? No, not really, the performance should be roughly the same. (Actually gtk2 should be faster as it gets more efficient) A major factor is the engine you use. I ported the pixmap "AbsoluteE" theme to gtk2 and it was slower than a snail (gdk pixbuf). However, I run the mist (etria.org-blue) engines on my gtk1 and gtk2 themes and both are incredibly quick. One factor COULD be xft, (although I think its possible, although by no means a standard practice to enable xft on gtk1) which might slow things down a bit, but personally, I would stay away from a non-antialiased browser... Porting to Windows?

by Andreas Tolfsen

I've just been wondering; Are there any future plans for porting Dillo to the Windows platform? Or is Dillo to stay on GNU/Linux? I think porting to Windows would let Dillo have a much bigger audience to speak to (since about 90% of the worlds computers run Windows). I just wondered if there were any plans? Solaris IPv6 DNS and http_proxy segfault

by Todd Carson

I just built dillo on Solaris 9 and I encountered a few issues compiling and running it. I didn't see any mention of these in the bug entries or the list archives, but I'll admit I didn't look for very long, so if any of these have already been dealt with, I apologize. Dillo won't compile on Solaris 9 (and probably earlier versions too) with IPv6 enabled. In dns.c it calls gethostbyname2() for IPv6 name resolution; this function doesn't exist in Solaris, it should use getipnodebyname() or getaddrinfo(). I edited dns.c and replaced the gethostbyname2() call with a call to getipnodebyname(). The diff follows: --- src/dns-dist.c Sun Jul 6 23:29:05 2003 +++ src/dns.c Sun Jul 6 23:33:08 2003 @@ -244,6 +244,7 @@ memcpy(&dh->data[0], host->h_addr_list[i], host->h_length); list = g_slist_append(list, dh); } + freehostent(host); return list; } @@ -260,6 +261,7 @@ struct hostent sh; #endif GSList *hosts = NULL; + int err_num; #ifdef G_DNS_THREADED /* Set this thread to detached state */ @@ -271,9 +273,14 @@ #ifdef ENABLE_IPV6 if (ipv6_enabled) { - host = gethostbyname2(dns_server[channel].hostname, AF_INET6); + host = getipnodebyname(dns_server[channel].hostname, AF_INET6, AI_DEFAULT, &err_num) if (host) - hosts = Dns_note_hosts(hosts, AF_INET6, host); + { + if (host->h_length == 4) + hosts = Dns_note_hosts(hosts, AF_INET, host); + else + hosts = Dns_note_hosts(hosts, AF_INET6, host); + } } #endif This works okay for me, but I'm not a programmer, so it's fairly sloppy, probably introduces new bugs, and could certainly be improved upon. I'm particularly unsure if that's the right place for the freehostent(), or if that's necessary at all. The other issue I ran into was that Dillo will apparently segfault, at least on my system, if the http_proxy environment variable is set and contains only a hostname and port rather than a full URL. Here's the console output: Setting locale to C... dillo_dns_init: Here we go! Cookies: Created file: /home/tc/.dillo/cookies Enabling cookies as from cookiesrc... Nav_open_url: Url=>about:splash< Nav_open_url: Url=>http://dillo.auriga.wearlab.de/< Dns_server [0]: is 0 zsh: segmentation fault (core dumped) dillo Again, I'm sorry if these have already been brought up, and I hope I've been somewhat helpful if they haven't. -- Todd Carson | tc(a)telerama.com | GPG: CA8E1FCB ~ Ubi dubium, ibi libertas. ~

Re: [Dillo-dev] text wrap aroung images?

Dillo doesn't yet has support for floating text around images. It is our fault. Sometime ago someone provided a patch to do this, but it seems to break some other things. Sebastian may have more accurate news about this subject matter. Cheers Jorge.- PS: [interesting off-topic] > "Come the millennium month 12, in the home > of the greatest power, the village idiot will come > forth to be acclaimed the leader."--Nostradamus 1555 Quite interesting tag! Some news...

by Jorge Arellano Cid

Hi there! This has been a very busy week. I didn't anticipate how much work the dpid (dpi daemon) integration could take. Don't panic though!, the code that binds it all is running (to some extent) in my machine. The time consuming problem is that while making the integration, a lot of design matters spring in, and they take a lot of time to solve. The good news is that it all starts to shape into a more clear design (the code is still hackish at parts, but it is clear what, where and how to fix it). While working the gory details of it, I realized it'd be a good idea to make the 0.7.3 release with what we have now (plus a little bug fix we're working on with Sebastian). That way, there'll be less pressure on us while polishing the new dpid implementation, and hey!, it's been a long time since our last release. I'll keep the CVS free of the dpid code until the 0.7.3 release is done. For the meanwhile, I'll provide a tarball to the new code. (and if I can't wrap the new code before Monday, I'll provide a link to the latest dpid testing tarball I have). Cheers Jorge.-

RE: [Dillo-dev] FW: Dillo project Cross-platform build problem re: GTK

by Sean Kelly

Hello Andreas, et al, Thank you for the tip! As it turns out this was a solid lead. I was not aware that gtk-config was just a shell script, so indeed all I had to do was locate the one for the MIPS build of GTK and yeehaw: successful link! Hopefully I can get it installed and running shortly here (having lame problems connecting to the target device presently) and will have some feedback on how this lightweight browser performs on a truly lightweight platform, just as it was designed to do. Hmmm, gtk-config is a shell script already - at least on my machine. If you set a variable GTK_CONFIG to point to the MIPS version, ./configure should pick it up and the MIPS version should tell the correct flags. That of course requires that the MIPS gtk-config shell script works correctly. Is the first line #!/bin/sh ? Sometimes these things are set to non-standard shells. And the PATHS in the MIPS gtk-config have to point to the MIPS paths. If everything else fails and you can link other GTK programs, I would simply try the attached patch and addtionally make sure that all GTK stuff gets found. (e.g. setting CPPFLAGS to find the includes and LDFLAGS to find the libs). This is not very clean, though. And in theory the first approach *should* work.
