An odd request, I know...

Hi, Firstly, I'd like to say I've been using Dillo for over 2 years now, and find it fantastic. Well, apart from a few little details (which I'll probably post to the list in a couple of days, when I'm less busy). So anyways, very well done for this piece of software! Now, my strange request: I'm currently writing a bunch of m4 macros to (statically) generate my personal website. Unfortunately, after ages of trying to come up with a decent layout that rendered properly in various browsers, I came up with pretty much nothing. But I kept seeing, every time I started Dillo, the tidy little splash screen... ...So basically, would Jorge (or whoever is responsible for that) mind if I effectively copied the HTML? I wouldn't bother to ask, as I'm just getting my macros to churn out the tags, rather than copying anybody's *content*, but I thought that might be covered by copyright anyway- in which case, I'm being extra cautious before sticking anything up on my site. FWIW the current RFC is 2396. It has a good explanation under section C.2. "Abnormal Examples". Dillo follows the interpretation of Tim Berners-Lee (because it has extra semantics for hierarchical namespaces). Cheers Jorge.-

yes - You are partially right ;o) as i said in my first email, i have compiled x 3.3.6 from source - and as i compiled it, i did not have threads library installed, so that is the glue i'll get back to this in couple days and let You know when Dillo rocks ! In that case, the site author is wrong for creating a bad url; and the web server could, if it were so inclined, handle the request by issuing a redirect to the apparently-intended http://www.godulike.co.uk/phpBB2 -- but that would be fixing the site author's error. Looks to me as if Galeon, Konqueror, and Lynx are wrong (per RFC) and more usable in this particular case, but they will possibly fail to access <URL:http://www.example.com/../haha> altogether. Found a funny glitch

I say chaps do have a look at www.godulike.co.uk and click on the "Forums" link. I am getting the reply "Bad Request" "Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand." "Invalid URI in request GET /../phpBB2 HTTP/1.0" Apache/1.3.29 Server at www.godulike.co.uk Port 80 Galeon and Konqueror work fine. Lynx works too but stops to ask if I will allow a cookie.
