I have hope that it's not seriously complicated, but if the focus management happens to explicitly not anticipate such situations, it might non-trivial. Can't copy/paste, only urls

AH HA! I spent a little more time in the past few minutes looking over the dillorc file to see if there's something I aimlessly missed option wise. Turns out I seem to have found the issue! This is what I had: # Mouse middle click by default drives drag-scrolling. # To paste an URL into the window instead of scrolling, set it to NO. # Note: You could always paste the URL onto the URL box clear button. middle_click_drags_page=NO I now changed it to: #middle_click_drags_page=NO Reran Dillo and I can now copy/paste into Dillo's web page forms without the output from the copy buffer always going into the Dillo url entry box! If this is the expected behavior of copy/paste when this option is set to "NO", then I'd suggest putting in a warning into the comment area of the dillorc that it will conflict with copy/paste operations when using the mouse middle button. Got it!? OpenSuse is not exactly a developer's distro out of the box - I was missing the dev libraries for jpeg.? When I had a look at the config.h, the thing about jpegs was actually #undefined.? I just noticed your email. Oh wow, there's this tool called "/usr/bin/fluid2" within the FLTK package. But still, README's state little to nothing about getting good debug output (except likely only through GDB when something bad happens). Neat. Yes, I can copy past into the widgets/windows in this tool. Just tried. So this (kind of) narrows things down to Dillo. Dillo debug output states very little. I'll try stracing it later on today. ;-)

I can use the keyboard to enter form data. But when it gets to copy/paste, the mouse always puts it's copy buffer into the url box. It is completely amazing you use Gentoo as well, and don't see any of these problems. Just prior to wiping and doing a clean install of Gentoo (to reduce bloat -- and the fact I haven't done a clean install in 5+ years), I was seeing the same problems with the mouse copy/paste buffer in Dillo, along with it on my other laptops and computers. After reinstalling on all three systems, I am still seeing this same problem. Would be great to hear the code responsible for this clicking issue so I can try to dump some debug output. FLTK is responsible correct? For what it's worth, here's something from GDB (compiling fltk & dillo with debug flags): (Action -> mouse button paste in google form box) Nav_open_url: new url='Thisisfreesoftware:youarefreetochangeandredistributeit.' Dpi_get_server_port: can't read server port from dpid. ** ERROR **: dpi.c: can't start dpi daemon ... wow... looky all the debug info just flow out GDB! :-/

No matter how I even try to focus with the keyboard, or where I click concerning (X coordinates) with the mouse middle button. One thing is for sure, Dillo (or X/DWM) is recognizing the middle mouse button click and is sending the correct data -- but not to the right X coordinates!

[patch]: fix VPATH builds

OK, the problem with VPATH builds is fixed but I think it can be improved. Firstly, because -I is a preprocessor directive, it should be added to AM_CPP_FLAGS. Secondly, the Makefile uses .. in various places to navigate from the current build directory to where various headers and libraries are. I think it is better to locate other directories from the top of the build and source trees. So I would prefer to use -I$(top_srcdir) instead of -I$(srcdir)/.. , and $(top_builddir)/path/to/lib instead of ../path/to/lib . Patches attached, tested as before with in-source and external builds. Currently src/Makefile.am adds -I.. to some compile flags so that all the #include statements work. This breaks when the build directory is different from the source directory. The right thing to do is add -I$(srcdir)/.. . Patch attached (with an extra tidy-up patch as a bonus). Tested both when building in the source directory and outside it. Regards, Jeremy Henty

If I can recall correctly, when kernel-2.6.30 was released, somebody submitted a few firmware patches in for a specific network adapter (whose driver is in the kernel). The patches were accepted into the 2.6.30 version breaking the driver at first, then later wake on LAN functions. >From what I saw from the patches, they almost rewrote the entire driver -- but the author did state he should have caught the bugs. The bugs have long since been fixed, but it does bring up an issue concerning kernel stability. However, I also realize if they try improving the quality of the kernel drivers, you might not see the patch integration until 2.7 or 2.8! No other GNU/Linux (nor BSD) that we know of has this problem. As I'm no kernel expert, it's hard for me to suggest a way to further debug the problem. You may try compiling a vanilla kernel from kernel.org or another kernel version from gentoo, or if you really want to find out where the freezes come from, asking a knowledgeable guy from the TCP sockets area in Linux. Dpi_blocking_start_dpid: try 11 Dpi_check_dpid_ids: Connection timed out dpid seems to respawn itself, with a new mksecret (updated dpid_comm_keys). Why is it respawning itself without stopping it's earlier instances?
