There have been reports of programs (or even the Linux kernel) running faster with -Os then -O2 due to the small code size (which can eventually fit inside the CPU cache). But, yes, Simon could try to compile with -Os. Nonetheless, a 1.6 MiB dillo binary (stripped) is very odd. (Heck, I've just tried to compile with -O0 and I got a 329KiB binary). Maybe a GCC bug? dillo binary size

Hi, After building dillo 0.7.1.2 and stripping the binary the file size is almost 1.6 megs. When I built 0.7 the final binary came out to be 289k. I built both using the uclibc library and gcc 3.2. Hi guys, Let me clarify a little bit about what the dicache is. This is how Dillo works. When you ask for a URL (be it a root URL, like a HTML, or an image embedded in a page), it looks it up in a _memory_ cache. If it's already there it returns the content of the cache, and if not it makes a connection to retrieve that URL. But there is a complication with respect to images. The images which are downloaded need to be decompressed to be displayed (that is, transformed from their original format, jpeg, gif, etc, to a bitmap format). So for images, first the dicache (_d_ecompressed _i_mage cache) is checked, then the cache, then finally it is retrieved from the site. The problem with dicache is that it eats up a *LOT* of memory, and the only benefit is the processing time of transforming from the original format to the bitmap. That's why the default is NO. nowrap and prefs.limit_text_width

I'm having a little problem with sites that excessively make use of "nowrap" tags, like <http://futurezone.orf.at> I toyed with limit_text_width (quote from dillorc: # Set this to YES, if you want to limit the word wrap width to the vieport # width (may be useful for iPAQ) limit_text_width=YES ), but I noticed that this option doesn't work as I would have expected, because it doesn't force wrapping here (nowrap). Now I think in the context of this dillorc remark, it might be a good idea to override 'nowrap' when limit_text_width is wanted. Am I cruelly breaking standards, or would that make sense? Then I went out of Dillo and back in again to the Google home page. The Google logo took just as long to draw as the first time. I thought that the dicache setting would keep the images in a cache. I hacked a fix for function "a_Bookmarks_add" in src/bookmark.c that avoids the seg-fault and allow me to use bookmarks. Since I use malloc, sprintf and free instead of g_strdup_printf and g_free I don't submit it as patch, but I hope it'll help to find the clean fix. With cookies accepted, dillo 7.0 is not able to login to the New York Times (at nytimes.com) After filling user-name and password, and submitting, the login page returns cleared, as if nothing happened. 0.7.1 release

Hi! The new 0.7.1 bugfix release is out. It solves the problem of disappearing bookmarks and some other minor things. It works on 64bit machines and some problems remain on _some_ Solaris stations; these should be fixed in 0.7.2. Please upgrade ASAP!!! Coredump

I was browsing (using the CVS version of Dillo) and clicking on a link made Dillo coredump. I can't guess what the cause is, but I'll attach a backtrace so the more experienced can tell. (And sorry if it turns out to be a known problem.) I don't have any other information as I don't even remember what page I was browsing.

Line terminating characters

Within a <textarea> tag, Dillo seems to treat linefeeds, (0Ah), as the line separator, and displays carriage returns (0Dh), as a character unavailable glyph. I think this is wrong - in CDATA, isn't linefeed supposed to be ignored, and carriage return supposed to be the line separator? If you repeatedly send data submitted in a textarea tag, back to the browser in a textarea tag, you keep adding blank lines in to the data. John.

Bookmarks

I really appreciate the work put into the bookmarks plugin. However, I hope that this plugin solution is just temporary. Just my opinion, but I find manipulation of bookmarks: renaming, sorting into sections, etc., to be so unwieldy that it is easier to just edit the bm.txt file. Albert

mousewheel

After i wrecked my glibc i had to reinstall, slackware this time. Now the strange behaviour with the numbers after links is gone. And he lived happily ever after with dillo 0.7. I found a new strange thing: If i position my mouse above a link and roll my mousewheel, it is marked as visited. No idea why and wether it is perhaps wanted, but i thought mailing it wouldn't wrong. Go you great coders, you do a great job! :) Andi

Thanks to all who replied. I also have links installed, but I much prefer the look of Dillo. I can and do, of course, download http links with Dillo; I am just not sure when it is finished. It's certainly not a show stopper. I was just curious. Thanks again.

It looks to me like perhaps older Solaris had -lposix4 and newer Solaris has -lrt for nanosleep(). On Solaris 8 posix4 is a symlink to rt. Perhaps configure can figure it out? Two branches?

Why don't we have a branch more like the Linux kernel? I would _love_ to have a cvs branch that had every bit of developmental code in it so that we can see what's happening: gtk2 with pango tabs floating tables support <-- especially this one cut & paste support Even though it will be _very_ unstable. My theory is, if it is good enough for a screenshot, it's good enough for the 'developmental' branch. This would also mean that the developer's personal trees will be better sync'ed Of course, I'm just thinking, as I always do ;) I have yet to code... (A bit of python ;) )
