Remote control reloading

Hi, dillo is really a neat, compact and precise instrument. I don't want to see it being clobbered in any way. I have one request for bloat though. What about implementing some signals dillo would react on. I.e. SIGHUP to make dillo reload the page. (I'd like to use dillo to render the output of some shells scripts interactivly. These scripts are derived from cgi-bins.) Perhaps you wouldn't consider this bloat at all. cu. : Christian

Selection (again)

[Dillo-dev][PATCH] /etc/dillorc installation

Thank you - the problem is solved. I completely removed using "make uninstall" then using my trusty Midnight Commander, hunted down all the remnants and directories and removed them. I re-downloaded Dillo, installed from scratch and it seems fine now. I had tried reinstalling one already to no avail, but I had not removed /.dillo before, in order to keep my bookmarks, cookies and rc file. So I guess the lesson here is - when upgrading Dillo, wipe *everything* old Dillo out completely, first. As a sidepoint, I'm glad it wasn't the kernel - kernel 2.4.x has BIG compatibility issues with my machine for some reason :-\ Thank you again. Bug 433

Hello, I am the submitter of bug #433. I just noticed the comment on the bug for me to write to this mailing list. I am a first time poster :-) The bug I am experiencing causes Dillo-0.7.1.2 to crash everytime I try to use bookmarkd. It also crashes when I try to bookmark a page or manually type dpi:/bm/ to the address line. I am using Debian woody with kernel 2.5.65 (bug noticed while running 2.5.63). The bug also appears when I boot into kernel 2.2.22. IMO, it's not a compatibility issue there. I have 128MB RAM, 30 Gig fujitsu HD, Cyrix-III, 700MHz cpu, Asus P7V mobo. Ummmm, I dunno what other info you fellas might need on this. Lemmie know. Thanks, -- Gregg

Hi there! Sometime ago someone suggested using "Valgrind" to test our memory management. After reading its docs, it looks quite worth a try! As using Valgrind to test dillo is akin to using efence (mostly userland), I thought it may be very well done while I keep working on dillo internals. Is anyone interested? How would transparency be added, using the X window system, which AFAIK, does not support transparency? I quite like tabbed browsing, except current implementations are very slow (well, they work...) on the other browsers - haven't tried konqueror yet though. As to how these features are developed, I believe that dillo should be developed primarily as a gtk plugin, or set of plugins (such as bookmarks, ftp, and so on), and have multiple 'skins', or program interfaces. Much like gecko in Mozilla, galeon, and the like, or the khtml in safari or knoqueror. This would mean that dillo can potentially become more useful, and would also encourage more innovative ideas as rather than fiddle with code in the CVS, you could just make an app, using the dillo plugin, and you've made a browser! You could open a semi-transparent window on top of the search results from a search engine, click on the links in the window underneath, and have them load in the top window. Or, you could start a large page downloading, and browse other pages in semi-transparent windows above it while you watched the progress of the download of the large page in the background. Or, how about an option to open new windows automatically scrolled past any initial graphics and large text, and with the main text at the top of the window? For example, the Dillo home page would load with the Dillo logo, and 'Welcome to Dillo Project!' text already scrolled off the screen. This would be useful for people using low resolutions, or slow machines. Another idea, why not have a mode where text links are replaced with a small, say 160x120 graphic of what that link would look like rendered? John.

Segfault using text selection?

No, the event is (since recently, for selections) sent to the toplevel widget, although its position is outside of the allocation of the latter. (If your assumtion would be correct, a_Selection_button_press would never be called :-) The problem is that the DwIterator, from which a DwExtIterator is constructed, points to a widget (the DwEmbedGtk containing the button), which is the last content in the page. a_Dw_ext_iterator_new tries to move forwards (since it must never point to a DW_CONTENT_WIDGET), and, of course, fails. The main developers are buried under a list with lots of high priority tasks (for instance my list has more than 30 items appart from the area I decided to work now!). I'm not sure how to find the exact subversion, but the difference between 0.7.1.1 and 0.7.1.2 is apparently only a few lines. I have never had dillo crash with bookmarks, but my bookmarks are still unreliable - as dillo matures this will get better (I hope - I am not a developer ;) ). As for cut & paste, I have never used a version of dillo, but there is a cut & paste patch against CVS (Or, it is already in CVS?) In summary, The bookmarks problem exists in the actual bm server (afaik), and cut & paste is comming. As for mouse gestures, I can't see that happening soon... I'd rather see ftp support and frames :).

When I downloaded and extracted the latest tarball the resulting executable only shows 0.7.1 for the --version option. My requests are both based on my experience with the Opera browser. First, is it difficult to change Dillo so that I can copy-and-paste text from the browser window? I find it very handy to copy text from a web page to paste into a document, or an email, or whatever. Second, I really find Opera's mouse gestures for going forward and back very handy. To go to the previous page (back) you hold down the right mouse button and click the left button. But I never use the ports version, usually the CVS version. I just do the ./configure and gmake routine and it just works.
