[Dillo-dev]dillo-0.8.3 officially released!

Hi there, Finally the release process saw the light, and today the new dillo-0.8.3 was released! It went through a long testing process so we expect this one to be very stable and to have a good reception. The announcement was just submitted to freshmeat and it should appear in some minutes. Thanks to all the people that contributed to test the release candidates with their time and feedback. Go get it! Now, we'll focus on the next big steps. That's the FLTK port, new Dw abstraction layer, review of the CCC, caching, etc. We're preparing a prioritized tasks list with Sebastian and it will make it into its own HTML page. Sebastian: feel free to merge the new Dw abstraction layer into the CVS. Let's start this ASAP. -- Cheers Jorge.-

What I finally did is to deliver small packets from my brain and follow them through the code! ;-). There're many options, one of them is to have a traffic control program that allows customizing (IIRC Sebastian wrote about one long ago...). Another simple to implement idea is to do it from a local CGI: sending a small packet, sleeping for short time, an so on. Txs. -- Cheers Jorge.-

On the latter, with cookies disabled it correctly detects the loop and stops, and with cookies enabled it correctly reloads the first page, picking up the new 200 status instead of reusing the old 302 status, and shows the resulting page. I've got a caching plugin on the journal that saves the HTML output to cut down on database & processing time. It looks like it's caching the search results and just sending them as 200 instead of processing the pre-output part of the script. This explains the apparent inconsistency in which only the first hit triggered the spurious loop error: later hits picked up the cached copy with a 200 instead of a 302. Sorry about that. I've disabled it for now -- the only reason I really had it on was to deal with delays talking to Waypath, but they seem to be down half the time anyway. (In the long term I can set up a separate page to handle searches, and just tell it not to cache that page, but for now, this is simpler.) That should help with the debugging, since I won't have time to put together a test case today. -- Kelson Vibber www.hyperborea.org

Hi Sebastian, Do you remember sometime ago when I lost a page that showed an overlayed calendar. Well, I was browsing dock apps an came accross this one: http://www.dockapps.org/file.php/id/99 This time I saved it! :) It reliably reproduces the bug: overlayed text rendering. Please give it a look. The bug shows on 0.8.2 and 0.7.3 so it's old enough that rc3 can perfectly get out with it inside, just in case it is not a trivial fix. -- Cheers Jorge.-

I want to point out here that we don't use the weekday part in any way, so it can be discarded. I agree. In a perfect world the "Max-Age" attribute would be used everywhere. However, "Expires" has become a de-facto standard (and a badly defined such) which needs alot of "special attention" but it's also a must to have working cookies. > Does anyone know better? [Dillo-dev]html parser stress testing?

Hello, (i just noticed this has been reported already, but anyway) a bit ago somebody reported a interesting experiment on bugtraq: he wrote a script that generates random malformed html and used it to test the stability (and security, in case bugs could be exploited to execute code!) of various browsers: http://www.securityfocus.com/archive/1/378632/2004-10-15/2004-10-21/0 this would probably also be interesting to test dillo with (running in a debugger) to weed out bugs. and just a bit after i thought that, somebody reported the first: http://home.eggdrop.ch/cgi-bin/remangle.cgi?0x702d9be9 <TABLE><TD COLSPAN=400192481> -> segfault - Thorben

It seems to freeze only within a few minutes of turning it on (and then only the local display -- I can still SSH in from another computer, but it won't react to the keyboard & mouse or update the display). I used it for several hours last night, and I've left it running constantly since Monday evening with no apparent problems. (Although trying to boot it on Monday was an interesting experience, one which confirms that it's a hardware issue and not a driver.) At this point I plan to just not turn it off for a few days and look for a new video card on the weekend. In the worst case, I can definitely build for the most current releases of Fedora, Mandrake and SuSE (well, the next-most-current Mandrake, since I haven't installed 10.1 yet).
