Using Dillo as google search frontend.

Hello. What I want to do is like this. 1. Googling with Dillo. 2. Then, a search result screen comes. 3. When click a result, firefox starts and shows the page. What I want? I want to google with a very fast browser(= dillo), but browse other pages with full browser with plugins(=Firefox). Is this possible? --- Okajima, Jun. Tokyo, Japan.

I would think a trailing slash should indicate that the user knows what he's talking about - don't attempt completions then. Why does it make sense to assume a www. prefix and a .com suffix all the time? Maybe the "completion" (assuming the initial DNS lookup fails) should take the form of a list of all matching TLDs for the supplied partial name - which currently would mean about 200 DNS queries, unless there's some service you can request this from in one shot. (Which would be a neat idea - someone zings you with a partial name and you return a status code 300 with the list of options. I can imagine Google doing something like this and making it commercially feasible.) Inserting a default protocol (http://) when not supplied by the user is always handy though. The bugtrack is for the official Dillo branch only. I even ask people distributing patched Dillos to state it clearly (hopefully in the splash screen). The i18n-misc tree provides some features but also breaks several things. Bugs should be reported to them, not us. BTW, our plan is to have utf8 (FLTK2) and add i18n over it. I see you have patches for these bugs. Please send them to the i18n-misc maintainer, and let me know to delete these bugtrack entries afterwards. -- Cheers Jorge.-

Hi all, I asked last two bug committers of bugs in database (no. 707, 709) about their version of Dillo and they were both used that (http://teki.jpn.ph/pc/software/index-e.shtml) patchset version. So I wrote to DB that this bug is not related to default branch. Is correct to write it to DB or you are going to solve or inverstigate that bugs? downloads.dpi feedback

Hi there, here are some of my thoughts of new FLTK downloads.dpi iterface: 1. Because I use the wmii (www.wmii.de) - it's tabbed wm, like ratpoison and unlike KDE - I am very glad when no extra windows pops up from some app. For me it would be nice if the download manager opens in some dillo's tab window and not separate. 2. There are some curves on right and bottom side, they look ugly and useles. There should be some decent separator between two downloads. I don't like the shadow under the "file" field. It will be nice if the progres bar will be rightmost. 3. When the download is finished, on the button is 'done' text. It's nice to know that the download is done but when I click it cleans it, so we should rename 'done' -> 'clean'. 4. Buttons: Abort: stop and delete unfinished file Pause/Resume: SIGTERM (or SIGSTOP) wget/(SIGCONT) wget -c %f But I guess well polished download manager isn't necessary now, it's useful only for normal users. DOCTYPE and other fixes

Hi there, I just commited DOCTYPE sniffing (for the sake of bug-meter error-message accuracy). This is still in state of flux, but at least now the unescaped & inside URIs error messages that crowded the bug meter (aka. unrecognized entities) only appear for HTML4.01 and XHTML. The same code can serve for better checking XHTML (Matthias: this is what we talked about in Germany). In a nutshell, one of the nasty effects of SGML and XML is that formerly perfect URI-values now need to escape '&' as '&' (inside atrribute values). This breaks HTML compliance for lots of sites with script generated URL refrences. Webmasters usually workaround this by omitting DOCTYPE so it's parsed as in the old days. There's also an important fix in the new tag parser of dpip. Has anyone more feedback with the new FLTK2 GUI downloads dpi? -- Cheers Jorge.-

There is a separate problem with signing out -- dillo finds a redirect loop which prevents it happening. There's also a problem with the caching when in https IIRC. You have to keep manually refreshing or drop out of SSL as soon as you can. (These tricks used to be enough to get into the playstation2-linux.com site - though I do hear reports that even these aren't now sufficient!) Hi again, So I think I have found the reason why dillo cannot log into gmail and the problem is general enough to affect other websites. The gmail website is using Twarte Certificate Authority for https certificates. I did not configure the https DPI to recognize Twarte (I don't know if it is even possible). So each time I go to the gmail login page, dillo pops up the warning dialog box asking the user whether or not to proceed with an unrecognized certificate. For each image and element that are downloaded with https from the gmail login page, a new https DPI process gets forked and causes the warning dialog box to pop up again. There are too many dialog boxes that get poped up and some of them get dropped and are not shown to the user. As a result there are several https DPI processes hanging around still waiting for an answer from the user. One of those https DPI processes is the one that is sending the HTTP POST request to login to gmail. This is usually a problem when CSS is used and _also_ old style color directives in a messed way. One way to solve this is to set force_my_colors=YES in dillorc; but every page will render in the same colors. A better approach is to set a: "Force my Colors {on/off}" menuitem in the bug-meter menu for instance. This is easy to develop. -- Cheers Jorge.-

Hi, I don't believe that dillo supports javascript and ever will. The author seems to believe that a browser should be as stripped down and non-functional as possible or as bloated as possible (such as mozilla or firefox), with nothing in between. I would like that something in between. I think a lot of us on this mailing list (me at least) would be very appreciative if you could make support for it. You may consider teaming up with http://teki.jpn.ph/pc/software/index-e.shtml which provides unofficial versions of dillo with additions. Be forewarned that dillo is going to change to fltk so you may want to wait for that to happen first. There is no point in wasting time and creating something that will go away. Apparently, two copies with fltk exist, but have never been released. They are supposed to be released in the next version. Current color control??

I had my newsreader search 'color', but all I found was an exchange from 2003, and I doubt that's current. I have Dillo set as my default browser (under Fedora Core 4); every once in a while I get some site that's unreadable, because the text and background are too near the same color. My next move is to try the same URL in another browser; and that usually solves it. Dillo 0.8.5 with gmail

Hello, I have compiled and installed Dillo 0.8.5 and enabled the https DPI. I am trying to use Dillo to log in to gmail. I have made sure that cookies are enabled for .gmail.com. I am able to get the gmail login page which is served through https but I cannot log in to my account. After clicking on the "Sign In" button and accepting all the certificate warnings messages, I am not redirected to my mailbox and I am stuck on the gmail login page. Does dillo support javascript ? and is that the reason why I cannot login to gmail ? If javascript is the stopper that prevents dillo from being used on gmail, hotmail or yahoo etc... then I am willing to devote some time to get something like SpiderMonkey or some other JS engine to work with Dillo.
