Think about schools on the day
Hi If we accept that schools are one of the key mechanisms for change in society, then the idea of helping schools to think about the opportunities that FOSS can offer is a worthy pursuit. If you are looking for an activity for your team on the day then possibly doing something in the education arena might be a go - make a movie or some sort of presentation and publish it - collate resources (we have started something on the SFD website that you could contribute to) - invite teachers from local schools to your event - ? Here in Poland there is a program (run by the Fundacja Wolnego i Otwartego Oprogramowania - "The Free and OpenSource Software Foundation") called "WiOO w Szkole" (translated as "FLOSS in School"). And they are doing some great job, all year round. Maybe it'd be an idea for other FLOSS apologists out there. ;) Cheers mike

The Kolkata team has an introductory programme for high school and college students. http://softwarefreedomday.org/teams/asiaandmiddleeast/india/ILUG-CALINFO Best A. Mani -- A. Mani Member, Cal. Math. Soc
The Computer Professionals' Union (CP-Union) here in the Philippines started already a FOSS @ schools programme. Yesterday, we introduced FOSS to about 1,500 students of a local university. We had 4 sessions on Ubuntu desktop Introduction, Openoffice.Org introduction and CMS (drupal and Joomla) for the students. http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/breakingnews/infotech/view/20080905-158897/Grou... more details at www.cp-union.com the software freedom day organized by CP-Union has been focused to students and enthusiasts. This year, we have invited high schools and universities teaching it-related courses to join us on the event. It is our view that more than pushing foss to businesses, the real progress and success of FOSS relies on the youth and students. Thanks Mani, Rick and Michal for your responses. I think that programs aimed at the education sector are particularly powerful. Would you be willing to contribute to the SFD wiki with some information about these activities for yours? On the "Resources for schools" page http://softwarefreedomday.org/Resources_to_support_schools I have added a table titled "FOSS related promotions in education" for this purpose If there are others that have contributions, please feel free to add them to this discussion and to the wiki. Thanks Peter 2008/9/8 rick <rbahaguejr@gmail.com>:
