Providing Certificates for SFD Volunteers and SFD Organizing Team!
Hey fellow sfders! We were thinking of providing our SFD volunteers and SFD Organizers with some certificates as a proof that they helped in organizing and volunteered for our SFD 2011 :) Trust me, certificates are really valued by people here in India... So, is there any way that SFI can sign/endorse the certificates which we will provide as a hard copy to our SFD organizers and Volunteers to be authentic? has any one else given out certificates for a SFD before? -- regards, Karan Pratap Singh
Hi Karan, It's indeed a good suggestion! If it helps local teams to recruits more volunteers, sure! What do you suggest to be included in this certificate? Besides, should a certificate template be enough? and then each SFD team can download it and modify to add the volunteer names by themselves. We also need to think about how should we distribute this certificate template? Should we just publicly upload it in a wiki page , allow everybody to access? or just sfd team organizers can access it, how can we do it and so on :) Pockey On 09/08/2011 06:25 AM, karan pratap singh wrote:

+1 :D yeah it does ensure a LOT more number of volunteers!
What do you suggest to be included in this certificate?
I think the certificate should have the following things:- 1) A basic written template....saying that , this certificate certifies that the person with name ______, has helped promote SFD held at ________, as a volunteer/organizing team member/attendee.....held on _________. the above blanks can be filled in by the organizers/volunteers by hand Some way to show that the certificate is genuine and endorsed by SFI, maybe a unique random number or digital signature(hash) generated for each certificate? Or will the organizing team head's signature will do?
Besides, should a certificate template be enough? and then each SFD team can download it and modify to add the volunteer names by themselves.
+1 :)
We also need to think about how should we distribute this certificate template? Should we just publicly upload it in a wiki page , allow everybody to access? or just sfd team organizers can access it, how can we do it and so on :)
Only organizers should be allowed access to this, else they can be misused by unscrupulous people ....maybe email each organizing team the template? Also, we need to decide this fast....as we are celebrating SFD on 10th September(Day after Tomorrow)...so we need to print the certificates by tomorrow evening!

We believe the best way is for organizers themselves to endorse the quality of the volunteers as SFI doesn't know how they perform and whether they contributed. Since you need it urgently I made a template just now :-), you can access it on http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/Resources/VolunteerCertificate <http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/Resources/VolunteerCertificate>You will also find a SVG file for localization or modification purpose on top of PNG for printing. Please feel free to add your team logos and team names inside the template. We included a black for team leaders to put their contact details, just in case those read the cert wants to contact the presenter of this certificate to see if the person really contributed. Hope it helps. All the best to your SFD event! Do document and blog as well as tag about it!
