Hi Fred, thanks for opening registration. One observation: The link 'Register > Create a team page' on https://www.softwarefreedomday.org/ links to the 2017 part of the wiki. Could you fix that, please? Maren Am 02.09.2018 um 08:06 schrieb Frederic Muller - DFF:

For anyone else who also cannot find the registration page: The main item 'Registration' in the drop-down menu (in desktop mode, else it's the 'heading'), is clickable, and leads to https://www.softwarefreedomday.org/cgi-bin/register.py Fred, would it be possible to revise the menu? It's very misleading to have a dropdown on hover, and then to have the main item clickable, too. It should be either/or, but not both. Maren Am 02.09.2018 um 08:06 schrieb Frederic Muller - DFF:

@Fred: One more observation: On the registration page, hitting the arrow key in the text field to move the cursor also moves the map. As there is no swag, and there seem to be some sponsors this year (yay!), what is the sponsoring used for? I guess webserver? (although it's gandi, maybe they are sponsoring, too, they're known for supporting FLOSS.) Or web development? Kind Regards, Maren Am 02.09.2018 um 14:22 schrieb Maren Hachmann:

Hi! Yes the arrows move the map... I guess it's a (long) minor bug. We've been trying to rewrite (for the 3rd time) the registration app but are still unsure about ways to handle some of the cumbersome things we have today. So we're really just maintaining the current app and it does the job. We prefer to focus on what we feel more important issues. So now sponsor wise we haven't been very lucky and while naming people who sponsor us we haven't received any fund for the 4th year now. Some said they would but haven't contributed, some are due to the fact we moved to a new country and registering our new entity has been a challenge. Luckily we managed to find a solution earlier this year but it hasn't kicked in to help us receive funds yet. And no Gandi is not a sponsor and while they did contact us a while back they never actually followed up (Gandi APAC). On the infrastructure side we've been sponsored by Linode for the web server and Canonical for the mailing list. We no longer (and for quite a while now) receive funds from Canonical. Web development and all the little technical things are done by us. We hope that clarifies your questions. Thank you for asking :-) Fred On 09/02/2018 07:45 PM, Maren Hachmann wrote:

- Oh, and it looked so good on the website :-/ If you write up some article that explains the situation and asks for sponsorship, we can try to help spread the word on social media (depending on whether sponsorship vs. achieving the actual payment is the main issue...). Kielux isn't huge, but it could be a start. Just curious, if you have the time for it: Where did you move? And from where? (or if there's an article about it, just link to it)

Hi, guys! Yesterday, I registered for Xidian Open Source Community in Xi'an, China. However, I don't receive registered confirm email until now except a mail which is for confirming subscribe the sfd announce mailing list, of course I reply to subscribe. Nothing else also is in spam. Today, I check the map in SFD website which my team have been on. So, does that mean my registration successful? I think whether it's that I have registered a wiki account for editing wiki page before this registration, so I don't receive other email after submitting the form. Hi! Yes it seems you're the second person who didn't receive the email. We are not sure why this is happening, it could also be your mail server totally discarding the email as we are sure they are being sent (especially since you also received the mailing list subscription). In the meantime we did validate your registration and your event is appearing on the map. So no problem on our end on that part or for people to see your event when looking at the map. Thank you to escalate the issue though and this is definitely something we need to fix in the near future. Happy SFD! Fred On 09/04/2018 12:45 PM, Zephyr Waitzman wrote:

So now sponsor wise we haven't been very lucky and while naming people who sponsor us we haven't received any fund for the 4th year now. Some said they would but haven't contributed, some are due to the fact we moved to a new country and registering our new entity has been a challenge. Luckily we managed to find a solution earlier this year but it hasn't kicked in to help us receive funds yet.
- Oh, and it looked so good on the website :-/
If you write up some article that explains the situation and asks for sponsorship, we can try to help spread the word on social media (depending on whether sponsorship vs. achieving the actual payment is the main issue...). Kielux isn't huge, but it could be a start.
Just curious, if you have the time for it: Where did you move? And from where? (or if there's an article about it, just link to it)
And no Gandi is not a sponsor and while they did contact us a while back they never actually followed up (Gandi APAC).
On the infrastructure side we've been sponsored by Linode for the web server and Canonical for the mailing list. We no longer (and for quite a while now) receive funds from Canonical.
- Ah, that's good with the web server sponsoring.
Web development and all the little technical things are done by us.

Fred, would it be possible to revise the menu? It's very misleading to have a dropdown on hover, and then to have the main item clickable, too. It should be either/or, but not both.

Looking for more ideas about developing a Software Freedom event at Boston Public Library in association with the Boston Public Radio twice weekly broadcast on WGBH from the Boston Public Library. Or at Cambridge Public Library on the other side of the Charles River.
Hi! Well we do have a page about things one can organize for SFD on the wiki at http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/StartGuide#What_should_we_do.3F and then you have a resource page http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/Resources to provide further tips, files and stuff to showcase or help you to organize. Now Seeing you are from Boston I'd say drop by at the FSF and try to meet someone to discuss with them. Richard might not be at the office but the people there are usually very motivated and full of idea. It's probably a great place to start. There are also a few GNOME people in town (used to be where the GNOME Boston Summit is organized. Again GNOME people tend to be very motivated and full of ideas and experiences regarding running events. I can probably dig a few specific contacts if you need. And better, you could meet both communities ;-) Hope that helps. Don't hesitate to comment or ask for more! Happy SFD! Fred On 09/04/2018 07:49 PM, Don Saklad wrote:

I suppose you want to change the name on the SFD Map page, since on the wiki you can change everything by yourself. Also we can definitely help rename your page as well if you need. Just confirm what you need exactly and we'll act upon it.
Thank you and happy SFD!

Ok. I actually don't like top item not being clickable. We can however add a sub-menu which does the same. Fred On 09/02/2018 07:22 PM, Maren Hachmann wrote:
For anyone else who also cannot find the registration page:
The main item 'Registration' in the drop-down menu (in desktop mode, else it's the 'heading'), is clickable, and leads to https://www.softwarefreedomday.org/cgi-bin/register.py
Fred, would it be possible to revise the menu? It's very misleading to have a dropdown on hover, and then to have the main item clickable, too. It should be either/or, but not both.

Hey!
Thanks for the quick reply. Yes we're aware gmail put the email into SPAM since the mail is sent through PHP from the server which is not the mail server for that domain. We surely need to do something about it...
Thank you.

Hi!
The registration is just opened. Worked for me but it'd be nice if a few of you could register before we make the official announcement and report here if there are any issue.
Thanks a lot and happy SFD!

Worked for me. There was a bit of delay from it saying registration was complete to it appearing on the map.
Thanks a lot and happy SFD!
Thanks for organising SFD. Hopefully we can get back to sending out goodie bags; down to the only UK event. That's a browser cache thing where the 2018coords.txt file inside which the coordinates are stored doesn't get refreshed that quickly. If you open the file directly in the browser and refresh it then the marker will appear.
Thanks a lot and happy SFD!
Thanks for organising SFD.
A pleasure for us...

Yes.. we would like it too. As I explained briefly to Maren we've been out of funds for over 4 years now. And while doing DFD was supposed to bring more it just didn't work out this way at all. We're still working on it though and I want to be optimistic the situation will unlock itself this year. :-) Fred
