Hi all, Software Freedom International will be doing a press release early next week about SFD 2008 (as will several of our sponsors). I wanted to give the community a chance to: a) post to the list any amazing preparations, or expectations for the event. Any big names participating, or Government announcements? b) give everyone a chance to update their event pages before we get some press. We already are seeing a much greater build up of website interest this year than last year, and it looks like we may hit 500 teams this year, with over 400 already registered and many more expected! c) do your own press releases. We are almost 2 weeks out, so get out to the local radio, newspapers, and other media for the final build up of interest and participation! Thanks all and happy planning! Cheers, Pia -- Software Freedom Day 2007 http://softwarefreedomday.org/

Here in Rosario (Argentina) the SFD 2008 will be held jointly by the L.U.G.Ro. (Free Software User Group of Rosario - www.lugro.org.ar), the Municipality of Rosario (http://www.rosario.gov.ar) and the New Technologies Asociation (ANT (www.ant.org.ar). The big notice of this year is the cooperation with the Municipality of Rosario. The Municipality already has a local ordinance about the use of Free Software in the Public Administration, and for us is a very good starting point for such cooperation to be also conducted in other events and activities (and replicated in the rest of the world :-) ). Among others assistants, from the Free Software community in Argentina, we'll have the presence of Federico Heinz (http://www.gnu.org/people/speakers.html#Heinz). Also entrepreneurs, educators and NGOs will have a very important role. We'll have the presence of members of the local goverment, including the Mayor of Rosario Ing. Miguel Lifschitz. The day (September 20) will have talks, discussion pannels, an Install Fest, and an artistic show will be held at the end of the day (with a dance show and electronic Tango). This celebration is aimed for a very diverse audiences throughout the region. Not only techies but also students, teachers, artists and general public will be present. Thanks all and happy planning!
