Ubuntu CD Pack Surprise Custom Charges!!!
Hi all I met a guy from TNT courier service today, he came to my home demanding approximately 45 USD for Custom charges that were put on the value of the Ubuntu CDs pack I was supposed to get as a part of my SFD package.....I had ordered the max possible quantity of CDs that was possible while registration, and the CDs weigh about 6.7 KiloGrams....My friend in another state of India, also organizing SFD, received 60 CDs but did not get charged any custom fee! Are these charges even meant to be paid by us? Now, will SFD people reimburse me for this amount? Since we are college students and a bit tight with the budget, moreover we have already spent most of our money on booking a good venue for our SFD celebrations. The TNT guy said that if I do not pay him, then say goodbye to packages! -- regards, Karan Pratap Singh PULUG, Chandigarh, India

We had the same problems for a few distros here in Nicaragua, until last time (for the 11.04 release), wich we had to pay 45 USD, aprox. The problems is with TNT. They charged the value of the CD's according to the national laws, and even if you try to explain they're free, at least in our case, they don't believe you that CD's will be free. They though we were going to sell the CD's, no matter what we tell them. I'll suggest to all of you that next time (or this, if it's possible, yet), keep all the papers and send it to Canonical, so they can take log of that and send a notification to TNT. For sure, next time Canonical will send the CD's with another carrier, I don't know, or maybe they will notify specifically to TNT that don't charge anything for the CD's. Good luck! 2011/8/30 karan pratap singh <wizard.karan@gmail.com>

The CDs arrived to Guatemala! here they charged about $10 for taxes. I previously had troubles receiving cd donations so I was prepared, but there's no easy way to avoid this here as local regulations are outdated. We sould keep posting our experiences to be prepared an plan ahead for future events. Thanks to the SFD team.
